Can't do it on the 5th, but any other time -- The following weekend is really good for me.
-
I'm good most weekends.
Wendy, we are doing the 5K walk, not the 3 day. The three day scares me with the amount you have to fundraise. Check you email from Mike Meldrum. I think you tried to join the team but got interrupted? A fundraising page was made for you but they don't show you on the team.
You can sign up from this page...
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp
or the Wings of Hope web page http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC09/wingsofhopeYes, we lost Alaska Deb. It's too sad.
Sorry I can't write much!
Neesie - xxxxxoooo I'm thinking of you and your dear hubby.

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for the info. Yes, somehow I got totally mixed when trying to register for the 5K walk. I didn't want to sign up for fundraising but ended up in that loop. Very frustrating. All I wanted to do was register for the Wings team. Had I continued to check links I would have found the date. Sorry to be so redundant. I'll check my E-mail for mail from Mike Meldrum. I agree with you on the amount for the 3 day. I don't know that many people! I can handle $25. Maybe my husband would even walk with me; can't hurt to ask. Thanks again.

Hi MI girls. It's been a rough couple of months for me, so I have only been posting mostly on the chemo thread, but not even much there.
My tx's are going pretty badly; I've had 3 AC tx's so far, and have been on the couch for days on end. It's really hard feeling so sick, but the worst problem I'm having is racing heart/shortness of breath, can't walk across the room sometimes. Doc says it isn't a common SE, and that when I'm done with the AC, it should go away.
After my 1st tx, my mom went into the hospital. She has had diabetes for a long time, and now she needed a bypass surgery. It didn't go well at all, and she died on Feb 26th. I am devestated, she was my best friend. My dad is having a rough time, they were married almost 60 years, and she was the love of his life. I feel so bad thinking of him all alone, and have tried to be with him when I feel up to it, cooking for him, showed him how to do laundry, etc. She was worried about me right to the end, of course, since she always put us kids first; I know how badly she wanted to be here for me, and I am so angry that she has been taken away from me. I really miss her.
Then this past weekend, I ended up in the hospital with a pulmonary embolism. I am home now, and being treated with blood thinners. That was really scary; I really only had one or two symptoms, and would not have guessed that was the problem.
Anyway, it has been really really hard around here, and I am hanging in there, but not online as much. I will try to post, and read the posts when I can, and let you all know how I'm doing. They gave me a week off from chemo, but I have only 1 AC tx left, thank god, then it's on to Taxol. I hope that goes better.
I do hope that everyone here is doing well. It was a nice day today, wasn't it? Spring is coming, and I can't wait! Thanks to all who are keeping me in their thoughts, I appreciate that.
Hugs to all
Judy B.

Oh, Judy, I am so sorry for your loss and all your health issues! I'm so glad you are almost done with AC; it sounds like the pits.
I've gone through times like what you are experiencing - the only good thing I can say about them is that they do pass, and that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a speeding train. Other than that, they suck.
Please feel free to come here and scream, as needed.

Judy,
So sorry to hear what you are going through. I will keep you in my prayers this evening. DH ended in ICU with pulmanary embolism some years back and it wasn't fun. He's still on blood thinners. Dr. said he may have been dead by AM if I hadn't made him go to ER. He had been having a hard time catching his breath for close to a month prior to my driving him to the hospital. They never did find out where the clots came from.
Glad to hear you are ending the road for your treatments. I felt so lucky they were able to treat my cancer with just the surgery. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,
Wendy

Wendy...so good to hear from you. Yes...sadly we lost both Kay and Alaska Deb. Two very beautiful MI women...gone but not fogotten.
The walk is on Saturday the 30th...and you can either walk or ride the trolley. Wwe surely would like to build out team up...it would be great to get the "most surviviors" award. We have been trying...
Denise...praying for you and sending wamr thoughts.
Wings...first weekend in April works best for me!
Nancy...love the quotes on the Komen page...you go GF!!! -
Hi Michigan Ladies:
I haven't posted for ahwile but am here catching up on what's been going on. I had ankle surgery on Feb. 16 - a revision to the total ankle replacement I had in 2003. Monday the 23rd, will be 5 weeks since surgery and the doc said I couldn't place any weight on it for at least 6 weeks - so I probably will not have the cast removed until 3/31 or so. Enough about me.
Neesie, I am so very sorry to hear about your hubby. I pray that all goes well for him (and you) as you are on this journey. I will remember you and him in my prayers!!
Judy: Oh wow, what to say. You have been through so very very much. Please accept my condolences on the passing of your sweet Mom. I totally understand the missing of a Mom who was your best friend as well. I am also so sorry you are going through such misery with the treatments as well. Please know that I am praying for you and your family. I hope your daughter is doing better?? May God bless your whole family.
Hugs to all my other Michgan sisters . . . hope to see you all soon!!
Pat
-
Wendy, Sue and Pat: thank you for the kind words. It has been one heck of a bad year so far, that's for sure.
Pat: my daughter is about the same, she is ok; we are switching doctors/hospitals and hope we can figure something out for her.
I was back in the hospital on Wednesday. On a good note, my pulmonary embolism is gone, however, I have pneumonia now, so I took a few weeks off from work and I'm just gonna take it easy for a while. I'm wondering if the pneumonia will delay my next chemo tx?
I looked in my pond today, and there is a baby koi in there! I was really surprised that they spawned so early in the year. I've never had a baby fish before, and am glad he hasn't been eaten by the bigger fish (yet).
Take care
Judy B

I haven't checked out this post lately , but do let me know when your next gathering is. I would like to try and show up. I have 40 days left and chemo is over!!!!!!! I have a wig I found from the ACS and wore it out in public yesterday for the first time. I got a couple of second glances and my teen daughter wasn't so sure she wanted me to wear it....i guess she has gotten used to me wearing a hat....but i did it and I felt good and wore make up...yes, it looks like a wig, but maybe people were looking twice because I looked so darn good!!!!
-
Judy--- My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am sorry you are having such a rough time.
-
So much going on...
Judy B.-I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. My thoughts and prayers go out to you...I can't even imagine as my mom is one of my best friends too. Take it easy...sorry you have been so sick with your treatment. And thinking about your daughter too...many, many thoughts and prayers going out to you.
Jess-Yes I am sure you got the double looks because you looked so good!!! Good luck with the rest of your treatment.
Pat-Getting closer to your walking date...hope it goes by quick. How are you grandchildren? I am going to be a grandmother for the first time in July!!! We can't wait.
Everyone-How bout that luncheon??? Spring is finally here and we need to get signed up for the Komen Race. -
When/where is the Komen race?
-
Hey Girls................Hi to the oldies and an 'unfortunate' welcome to the newbies. Just checking in to see if you all had decided on a date for lunch. With me it's going to depend on DH who starts treatments tomorrow, but I sure want to be there so please let me know when a date is decided!
Denise

Hi ladies,
I went back to the last page and initially March 28, 29, April 4 & 5 were thrown out as dates for lunch. At this point, the first 2 may be here too quickly. I have a choir rehearsal in the AM on the 4th and a concert on the 5th, Palm Sunday. Someone else also had a conflict with the 5th. The next weekend is Easter weekend and we're into break and people on vacation. Maybe it would be better the last weekend of April or first weekend in May? April 25 or 26 would be best for me. I can fit in lunch on the earlier dates if those are the best, it would just have to be maybe shorter depending on when we started and the distance to drive. On the 28th we have to go to K-zoo for David's recital in the evening. We try to go early enough to take him to dinner so I'd have to be home by 2:30 - 3:00 pm. Even a little bit of time would be nice to see everyone. I hope to do the walk on May 30. I leave the first week of June to Alaska for 5-6 weeks to work at a camp, getting them ready for an accredidation inspection, so the walk would be a great kick-off.
Let me know what the decision is; date, time and place.
Blessings,
Wendy

Hi Girls,
Looks like March 28 and 29 are not good dates.
What about April 4 and 5? I know Sue mentioned the 5th not good for her which leaves us with April 4.
How does April 4 work out? Are we still on for Chelsea? Haven't heard much from the west side girls.
Sue - What was the name of the restaurant in Chelsea you suggested?
I will give JudyRock a call once we get details worked out.
Chris - CONGRATS on first time GRANDMA. DH and I also going to be a first time Grandparents. Some of you have met my DD Lacie she is expecting a baby boy in June. We are very excited!

After 11:00 am is OK on the 4th for me. I have a dress choir rehearsal until then. I remember seeing the exit for Chelsea on our way to K-zoo so I know it's off I-94 somewhere between Ann Arbor and Jackson. That's good enough for me. I may just continue onto Jackson to me favorite quilt shop if I'm halfway there anyways. I'll see how the time goes. Or, if someone would like to ride with me, I would love the company. I'm in Livonia at 6 Mile and I-275 so we could carpool from here or I would be happy to pickup. Just let me know. I don't have to go to Jackson after.
Had somewhere been decided in Chelsea? I am not familiar with the area at all so I don't know what's there but as long as I can access Mapquest, I'm good. I look forward to to learning the location.

Jess and anyone who would like to join us, the Karmanos Race:
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp
Select "Register Now!" and Team Wings of Hope when you follow through the questions. If anyone needs help or if you want me to do it for you, let me know. (You can also select the link from Register Now on this page).
Judy B - So sorry about your mom. You've had too much thrown at you. I'm glad you are enjoying your pond and thinking ahead about Spring. Things have got to get better.
Neesie - Thinking about you and DH as he starts his treatment.
Chris and Wings Grandma's!!!! Congrats.
Pat - are you on the mend? Did you just hit your 6 year anniversary? Doing the happy dance for you.
Sue - Did you start your new job? How is it going?
Wendy - To get to Chelsea from Livonia, take I-94 West to M-52 North.
I hope to catch up with everyone soon. April 4th works for me. Where are we meeting?

Nancy

I started my new job - I don't like it as much as I did the old one, but that's because I haven't figured out exactly what I'm doing, and I don't have the friends that I did at the old one. But, I am doing new things, and several of the people I'm working with are really nice, so I have a lot of hope. My main objection is that most people get in between 6 and 7, and, so far, I've only managed to be able to get to work at 7:30.
I suggested that we go to the Common Grill, if we are going to Chelsea. This is a really good restaurant on Main Street, right in the heart in downtown. Craig Common, who owns the restaurant, donated some recipes to a cookbook that my mother's group did back when my daughter was going into elementary school, and its main clientele is a combination of people who live in town and people who come in to go to Jeff Daniel's Purple Rose.
http://www.commongrill.com/index2.html
Wendy, I'd be glad to drive, if you want me to. I do this commute a lot - I still drive there to see friends and friends of my kid.
-
Hi Sue,
Thanks for the offer to drive. I'll let you know but I think I may just run out to Country Stitches in Jackson since I'm halfway there already. There are a couple of things I really don't need but would like to get and with gas prices rising again, halfway there is better than a totally separate trip. When I took my last class there, I left the book for the author to autograph while I took my other stuff to the car. I just realized several days ago that I never picked it up. When I called, they had not found an extra copy so it looks like I have to buy another one. Unfortunately, it's one I use all the time and need it to finish a project that's partially done. It's my own fault, I was too much in a hurry. If you are not in a hurry to get back after lunch, you would be welcome to come with me if your schedule permits but you may develop other plans. The Common Grill sounds like a great place to meet. I don't know how many will be there but would they be able to hold a table or just try and get lucky. It may not be too full on a Sat. afternoon. I am so looking forward to seeing everyone. I was very disappointed not to be at the one in Brighton but I was still so sick. It took me a full two weeks to get out of bed and I had lost 10 lbs. I've gained back 3 but it's going to be a long road I think. I lose weight much easier than I gain it.
I'll keep checking back on the thread for the finalized plans. Had a time been set? I have the commitment until 11:00 am but could leave then right from church and/or meet someone if we did end up driving together. Anytime after noon is great for me. Looking forward to the 4th.
Blessings,
Wendy

Hi everyone.
JudyB and Neesie- great big hugs and lots of prayers for you. Judy- I am in Westland, please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
I just signed up for the Komen walk. Also signed up two friends. May get one or two more, but haven't convinced any more survivors to join us.
I'm up for lunch any of the days!! I can drive too, if anyone needs a ride I275-Ford Rd
-
Hi Darlins,
We have 13 Wings of Hope members of which 3 are survivors. I still have 3 friends who may join and two of them are survivors. This may be the year we have the team with the most survivors! There are prizes for that, in case that is incentive to join us. When I get some spare time, I'll try to post something in the other topics.
Are the West side ladies joining us on April 4th? Are the East side ladies making the trip? So, is it the 4th around noon at the Common Grill?
Any ideas how we can stand out in the crowd at the Race? Does everyone still have their head boppers? They had some cute bunny ear boppers at Target and I thought of our butterflies.
xxxooo
Nancy
-
I still have a few headboppers, plus the materials to make more. If we want to go with butterfly boppers again this year I'll make them.
We only have 3 survivors so far ?
I tried to get my friend (survivor) from Iowa, but she'll be in South Carolina that weekend.
I'll see if maybe I can get anyone from work. I know we have at least three bc survivors there.(i'm sure there are more, that's just the onesI know of).
Did anyone check out the pics from last yearon the Komen site? There's a real nice picture of Wings (Bonnie) holding her/our sign with the names of everyone.
Let me know about the boppers. I have fun making them. Plus do we want all pink ones, or pink for survivors and other colors for friends ? Or does it matter at all. (if you have a request for a favorite color let me know
)
-
Hi to all!
JudyB, sending a hug your way. Hoping Wendy is feeling better too.
So is it official?? April 4th in Chelsea? As of now I definitely plan on being there! Just don't want to be the only one there so let me know if it's a Yes or a No!
Sue..think you were the one who posted the site for the restaurant...are you making reservations? Was hoping that 'maybe' they would have a round table..........why are they so hard to find?!
I haven't signed up for the walk yet, but you know I'll be there...................!
Hugs,
Denise
-
Just checked out the menu for the Common Grill- now I'm salivating!
Looks like a really easy drive in for those of us in the Livonia/Westland area.
I'm in for the 4th.
What time?
Also, their website did encourage reservations for parties of 6 or more.
Hope to see a bunch of us there.
Neesie- how are things? Warm hugs.
-
Hi ladies,
Count me in for sure for lunch on the 4th! I'm planning on the walk on the 30th too, I just haven't registered. I told DH that I was going to start joining him for his evening walks to start to get ready. The only wrinkle would be if I would end up having to leave for my AK trip earlier than the first week in June. I'm trying to find the best price but plan is to go beg of June. Can hubby's walk too? I'd ask him to walk with me if it would be OK. That would put the group up to 4 survivors if it works out I can. I'm going to register once I get my tickets booked.
Look forward to seeing everyone.
Blessings,
Wendy
-
Wendy- absolutely hubbys can walk too. Bring as many people as you'd like- friends, family, etc. The more the merrier!
-
Rockysmom - Thanks for the offer to make the boppers again. I'm sure the new members will love them.
Yep, the more the merrier is right! Mr. Wings, Mr. NotMe & Mr. Sphynx are Wings of Hope members! I have yet to get Mr. Sphynx to walk with us but the other DH's are regulars and we look forward to seeing them again! I'm counting on other survivors to sign up. You guys are, right? We will have several survivors this year if all the usual members sign up.
So, April 4th at Common Grill in Chelsea around noon-ish? Wendy, is that too early?
On the fundraising topic, someone mentioned having a 50/50 raffle. I'm thinking of doing that for work where half of the proceeds go to Wings of Hope - Komen Race for the Cure and the other half goes to the winning raffle ticket. Has anyone done that before? I don't want to do fundraising where they don't get anything because the Golf for MS just started and I don't want to compete with other people's favorite charities. I'm open for suggestions about it.
Looking forward to catching up next Saturday.

Nancy

Hey all...anyway we can move the luncheon to 1:00? I have a morning appointment.

Two more signed up for Race For the Cure!!!
