My last chemo was 2/18, and my hair has been growing in since I had it shaved off in September...actually, I've shaved my head three times before I left it alone. I've got a little less than an inch and a half in length, and it's been a blast using gel and spiking it up all over! Everyone wants to touch it and they love the color (blonde...because I didn't care for the gray as much as I thought I would)...I don't put anything on my head, like Nioxin or use any special shampoo...I just don't get "wiggy" about my hair....lol

WE ARE NOT OUR HAIR!!! WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

Debbie, my last chemo was 11/10/08. About 18 weeks ago. And yes I'll be on some pill for 5 years or more, just not sure which one yet!

Robin, what gel do you use? I'd like to spike mine, but haven't found something "gellie" enough to hold it up, lol

enjoy, I am taking Biotin. It is supposed to thicken the hair shafts. I don't know if it is working. It is a vitamin, I think one of the B vitamins? Look it up... It could not hurt.

This was posted on another forum on this site....I can not remember who posted it and I am sorry  for that....but the poem was just too cute not to save....

I hope you all enjoy this as I got such a chuckle the first time I read this....

    Attitude

There once was a woman who woke up one morning,
    looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.'

So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up,
    looked in the mirror
and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

    'H-M-M,' she said,

'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.'

So she did and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed
that she had only one hair on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'today I'm going
to wear my hair in a pony tail.'
So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,

looked in the mirror and noticed

that there wasn't a single hair on her head.

    'YAY!' she exclaimed.

'I don't have to fix my hair today!'

    I just love it!

Maybe I should try the Biotin...I've got peach fuzz all around my head, none on the top which irritates me....and it's growing so slow. It's about an 8th of an inch long..how long does it take to grow past this stage? It's been like a month since I first noticed it.

Finished my Chemo the beginning of January....I too am very much waiting for my hair to grow back....well at least enough that I can do something with it. Other then cover with a scarf....

I have been reading a lot about Biotin....I did a goole serach on Biotin. And like everyone claimed it is suppose to help with hair and nail growth. The searches I found even stated that for hair and nail growth we sholud get 500-2500 mgm a day.

But then there was videos of people who used Biotin for hair and nails....one that caught my attention was of a girl stating that Biotin can can acne in acne pron people....then there were a lot of replys from other women who had acne problems and did not relate it to the Biotin,

I may still try the Biotin myself.....but....If I get acne then I will stop.

I just wanted to mention this....not to discourage anyone from trying, but as something to look out for (in your first few weeks of using Biotin)

Lets keep each up dated on this.....

    Good luck,

    Denise

I will watch the acne had it when I was a teenager. I also did a bone density test and have Osteriopenie its before you get osteoporosis and I will take Atonal once a month for it if it agrees with me plus calcium pills wow we are full of the drugs arent we. I also have a sleeve that you hook up to the machine to get the fluid to move though your arm because of them taking so many lymph nodes out only 5 were infected but she took 29 out to clean house...I wrap my arm before bed every night too there is allot of wok with breast cancer that no one tells you while your getting ready for surgery but I am leaning every day and want to control it all and my sodium because of fluid retention and my friends say why don't you want to DATE anyone 5 years after a divorce I don't have the extra time or energy maybe some day when it irons out but he has to be a saint to want into my world .....don't have energy for heart break either ha good luck with the biotin and happy spring weekend to all of the ladies out here....

    Enjoylife-

I understand what you are saying about the extra care of yourself after you find out about Breast Cancer and commit to surgery and any other treatments that follow.

Actually I did not give myself this much attention before Breast Cancer.... I am a wash and wear girl.  No make up, no fancy clothing with accessories, no high maintenance hair do.....

Like I said I am wash and wear....up in the morning, shower pull on the jeans and blouse, take care of the teeth , comb the hair then out the door for work and what ever else the day brings.

I have learned through this experience, to look after my own health better...diet, exercise...but I will probably go back to the wash and wear girl....I will just appreciate having hair again.

Hope you all don't mind if I butt in with another idea - I used burdock seed oil - that I bought from an organic herbalist. Nothing but burdock seeds (burrs - the ones thatstick to your clothing) infused in olive oil for a period of time, then strained out. It's supposed to be a Russian folk remedy for hair growth. I used it every few days during my bald phase. (shaved my head last September), used it thru chemo & after. last chemo Dec.24. My hair came in fast, wavy, and a gorgeous mix of silver & black.(I'm 61) Now, I've no idea if it was the oil, or is just heredity? or the type of chemo? or individual differences we can't know about?

Best of luck to all on our hair growth adventures.

Some beauty shops may have wigs you can try on to get a feel for how they look and what kinds there are.   IF you can go to someplace like Sally Beauty Supply, the larger stores have wigs.   I found my favorite wig, a very straight layers cut, auburn with henna highlights on Clearance for $ 29.99 at a shop I passed by in the mall that had cosmetics in the window and all sorts of accessories, scarves, jewelry, etc.  I love it because it was very different from my short, naturally curly, very thick, salt and pepper brown/gray.  Everyone loves it except my son.

My last chemo was Oct 30 and I now go out without anything on my head unless it is cold.   The wig is for when I feel sassy and get "dressed up", which is very seldom.    I also have a very high end wig that was given to me as a HUGE discount for being one of the women in the new Look Good, Feel Better video.  Ash blonde and if you go to the program, you will see me in the video, last one in the turquoise blouse.   I think it makes me look older, but this is the first time I have "gone blonde"...   Turbans were more comfortable than scarves.  Newsboy caps that I found at Target or Walmart or Kmart were less "boyish" than baseball caps and went down further in the back to hide that bare area.

Another note:  I got a Pink funky, long wig at the Party Store for fun times, and I wore it to chemo for one of the gal's last chemo celebration.   I think it was $ 4.99.   My hair is beginning to wave in the back, like the 40's style of deep waves.... yuck...maybe when it gets longer it will be curls.

    Hello,

I underwent radiation to my head and lost all my hair. I was wondering, if anyone knew of a "magic" formula that will help hair grow?

It's grown a little in 2 years but there is a patch that doesn't want to grow.

My oncologist said none of those hair treatments work. :(

    Has anyone used Ovation products?

I used Tresseme gel before my hairs fell out.  Time to start again to tame the few strands that are long enough to stick straight up.  I also see some deep waves in the back, like 40's style.  Maybe I will get my naturally curly, wash and wear hair back one of these days.

I had stage 3 BC and had chemo twice a week. By the third chemo treatment I started noticing it falling out, in the shower, on my clothes, my eyelashes and brows especially. Eventually I was just kind of spotting and one night I had my family come over and my kids watch and my husband and we just shaved it as i cried. I think that was when i finally realized I had BC and was fighting. The hair  on the head wasnt as bad as no brows and no lashes. I bought a wig, but never really wore it because it was too hot and uncomfortable and at the end of the day when I chemo, appts, radiation, surgery etc, having a big thing on my head was the last thing I wanted to deal with. Today, I kind of miss the 5 minutes it took me to get dressed in the morning.....  hahhah!

Lolatx, ha! I am loving my boyishly short hair. I may keep it short!!

Ladies, I have discovered a Henna breakthrough. The first henna I did I used my regular shampoo for "colored" hair, and it washed out within a few days. I have had this henna for 2 weeks now and it's still in there. I used a Henna shampoo that I got online at allstatebeauty.com when I got the henna's. IT IS WORKING!!!

Just thought I would report in!!

Loltex I felt the same way everything else went so fast tests etc surgery but when the hair got shaved off now I am so pround of my inch hair jsut wish soon I could go with it without a wig, I was very fortunte my brother knew I would have a hard time money wise and he paid for my wig so its a expensive one but if I would of known it would be this long I would of got 2 to switch it out and of course pay for one myself. I love my dark hair it looks like a boys wiflow ifI spelt it correctly but its coming along I also am taking Biotin for a week and I notice my nails grouwing so I think its helping my nails too. Good luck to all of us growing hair and apprciate ever inch that comes in ....thank god spring is here too....
