I have one word.
http://cruises.travelzoo.com/panama-cruises/552086?utm_source=top20
It's a long word, grant it, but try it. If it doesn't work, I'm sorry. I couldn't do cut and paste from my work computer. Oops. I'm supposed to be working.
Fixed it for you....now get back to work!
DH.
-
Sorry I haven't been on for awhile... just checking in to see Nash's GREAT NEWS!!
I'm So Happy to read that your results were BENIGN!! YAY!! Thank you GOD!!
The cruise would be great, but I'm not sure I can even make it because of the little money thing. We are still paying for that other cruise... and I still don't have a job yet. Since I posted last, I've been busy trying to catch up with everything I need to do around that house since going on that cruise, and also job hunting. In NC it seems that you won't get hired unless you know someone who is the HIRING PERSON! I don't know ANYONE who can hire me so I guess I'm sunk.
HUGS to all,Harley
-
Hey Harley,
Nice to hear from you but am sorry to hear you're having such a hard time in the job department. If you don't mind I had a couple of thoughts for you. If memory serves I think you live in the Wilmington, NC area....is that right? Anyway, there are a lot of senior communities there, both independent, assisted living, and long term care. Very often they are looking for part time help to handles the phones on the weekend, etc. If there is nothing that pays an actual salary they are always looking for volunteers to assist with activities and trips. I've known several people who volunteered and then were able to move into a paying position. This may not be your cup of tea my friend but I was thinking about you. Best of luck....something will come your way.
Hugs to all....
June

Hi Ladies,
Lots of hugs to all of you. I am going to my sister's today. She is having her surgery tomm. I will be gone until Saturday or Sunday. I'll try to log on her computer. If not, have a great week. I am not only taking myself but all of you and your compassion and knowledge with me to take care of her. Thanks for all your support.
Hugs, Jackie
Nash....I smile and thank God everyday that you are okay!!!!!
-
Thank you, Jackie. And thank you, Harley. <<<<HUGS>>>> June has a good suggestion about volunteering your way into a paying position somewhere.
Jackie--both you and your sister will be very much on my mind this week and especially tomorrow. I will be praying for a safe surgery and good path results. Update us when you can.
-
Jackie,
Will hold you both in my heart and prayers. Travel safely and know we're all thinking about you.
Tomorrow, is my six month visit with the surgeon for US and Mammo. I so clearly remember the last visit in August (abn mammo/waiting 7 weeks for biopsy & results). Therefore......I do believe I will indulge in a little 'vino' tonight girls! Hey, I wouldn't know first hand but it just has to beat the h....... out of zanax, right???? LOL
Mucho Hugs,
June
-
Big Hugs to you, Jackie (if you get this before you go!) We'll be here waiting for you.
June, you're darn straight, woman. Many restaurants are based on wine, People have fallen in love over wine, Wine is used as we toast to our marriages and anniversaries, Movies are made about wine, wine is a whole home decorating genre for petes sake.
I just don't see that happening with Xanax anytime soon. There ain't no flippin' romance in it.
-
Well, God is good and everything is right in my world today. I just got home from a 6 hour session at the surgeons and radiologist's office. All tests remained unchanged from six months ago!!!!! YAY!!!!!
On a sad note my DH left at 5:30 this morning to fly to Ann Arbor because his mother is dying. She has lived almost 91 years and has had a full life. It's still the same though whether giving them up after 30 years or 60 years....it hurts just as much.
Jackie, am thinking about you and family and praying lots!
Hugs to all,
June
-
June, thrilled to get your news. yahoo for the next six months!!!! yaay!!!
Of course it is terrible about your DH... and of course it hurts. separation is not a fun thing, and we all carry with us those bruises.
Jackie, I hope the surgery went well. Can't wait to get some news of her.... I hope you are having a decent week.
I am hopping off, I am tired to my wit's end..... heading for a bath and bed - or maybe just my bed .... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
Just popped in for a second, girls. Thinking of Ann today, Jackie. Let us know how surgery went when you have a chance.
June, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. Like you said, the age doesn't matter--it's still DH's mom, and he'll always be her little boy, and it really, really sucks. I'm so sorry.
But I am thrilled to hear that all was well at the doc, albeit marathon in length. Thank goodness for the good news!
Nighty night, Lilith!
-
June - I'm sorry about your MIL as well. Tell your DH your board-ladies send him a hug. I'm always a little jealous when I hear of people my age and over who still have their mom and/or dad. How great to be able to enjoy each other for so long as adults. (sigh.)
On the medical front - hooray for the results! Yay, and More Yay!
Looking forward to the weekend when we hear the update on Ann, Jackie...
and huge hugs to the rest of you all. It's fun keeping up with everybody on Facebook...hey, June do you have an account?
-
Ladies,
Thanks for all your concerns. The surgery was on Tuesday and it went well. First she had to have almost 5 hours of mammography to find the clip so they could place the wire. That was the worst part. They must come up with a better way! She had a lumpectomy on left side with sentinel nodes, which were negative. Biopsy on right side. On Monday she will get final results, etc.... We'll keep praying. She looks great but is very sore.
June....congratulations!!!!! so happy it all went smoothly this time. So sorry to hear about your MIL. Losing a loved one is painful no matter what age.
Ladies, I will be in touch....I'm tired and going to get my hair colored by my daughter today. Have a great weekend...
Hugs, Jackie
Oh, by the way....Happy Spring!!!! Even though it's snowing like crazy here. Go figure......
-
Well, Jackie... all in all it sounds positive, hurray for the negative nodes. Shortly she will feel better - and she is indeed lucky in having you there to love and care. We all know how important it is!
Yes, we are all spring chicks, right???
) right now I can see the sunset out of my windows, the mountains are still snowy and are taking a lovely tinge of pink and orange. It is blustery weather (remember winnie the pooh and the blustery day????), so the lake is quite mean... and it is cold. We are supposed to get rain and slush again later this week, but I am sooo happy that the week-end is showing itself in a sunny perspective!
Love to all, and special gentle hugs to Ann and to June's hubby.
-
Jackie, glad the surgery went smoothly. Keep us posted on the path report.
-
Hey Jackie, Any word yet on Ann's Pathology?
Love to all of you...
Kaye
Dx 3/27/2007, IDC, 1cm, Stage IIa, Grade 2, 2/14 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- -
Kaye,
Congrats!!! You're coming up on 2 year anniversary of cancer free!!!! Yayyyy!!!! Two years? Unbelievable.
Ann did great. Right side was benign. Left side has clean margins and NO lymph node involvment (Hooray!!!!). Stage I. They did not have the results of er, pr, her yet. She has to go to medical oncologist next week for consultation and get results. If no chemo is needed (which surgeon seemed to feel wouldn't be) then it's on to radiation. She definitely will be getting radiation.
It's the best results possible so far in this ordeal. Ladies, we know how bad it can be so this news is good. She's in high spirits and very relieved. Thank you all for all your support.
I'll be in touch soon.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Excellent news, Jackie! I'm so, so happy to hear it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, it is almost Kaye's Cancerversary. It doesn't seem possible that we're all coming up on two years.
-
Jackie,
Such wonderful news!!!! The biggest of hugs to you and Ann. Thanks for getting back to us, we've all been anxious for her.
Kaye......let's have a party girl!!! Whatcha think??? I still want to meet you all somewhere for even a little get together. How about a 3 day cruise ladies? Could we manage that maybe?
Best go all
June
-
Thanks Jackie - and that's great news. GREAT news.
I didn't know what you guys were talking about with the "cancerversary" (very clever, Nash) Because I always think of August when we all met as being the anniversary I celebrate. Then I looked at the last post and saw my automatic signature. WooHOO! (That automatic signature got very tweaky last time I tried to post. Maybe that's why it looked out of it's normal place. We'll see where it shows up today!)
Yes, I SO want us to get together. Finding somewhere where the burden of travel is equally shared is also a concern...we're so spread out coast to coast...and who wants to get together in Nebraska? (that's the middle isn't it?) So the choices are: make some people travel, but have it be to a place that's worth it. I think a (cheap) cruise is a great idea. (And Florida or San Diego sound perfect.) Do we have a "when"? Want to do it in the summer? Want to do it THIS summer? Want to bring kids/spouses whatever? If we could gear it toward when Lilith will be in the states it would be great. It might mean we don't do a cruise, but maybe so.
Any ideas?
-
And June, Honey - you (and dh if he wants to) are ALWAYS welcome to come out west for a weekend and stay with us if you want to. No need to wait. That goes for all of you as well. I've said it before; we have 2 guest bedrooms with a queen in each. There is a Homewood Suites hotel walking distance from the house...and rates go down when it warms up.
Something to think about, anyway.
-
Good ideas, Kaye, and if anyone makes it out to stay with Kaye, I'd drive up to the desert to visit.
For us, I think a 3 day cruise out of San Diego is most realistic in terms of cruises, but I realize that it might be hard for people who have to travel to San Diego. I'd want to travel with DH and kiddos, so that kind of ups the expense. This summer, DH and DD are traveling to Okinawa for DD to train with her karate weapons Sensei's Sensei (does that make sense?) for ten days, plus attend an international tournament that only occurs every ten years. So that's a big, really expensive trip. Then next summer, we're planning on all going to visit DH's family in Chile. Another, really big, really expensive trip. So, I'd have to do some sort of short meetup sort of deal. Unless you all want to come to Chile with us.
Plus, there is still an off-chance that I will get the ice show off the ground eventually. I've switched coaches, and am now training with the skating director of the rink. She's in charge of the shows that the rink puts on that are independent of the skating club. So, there is a possibility that I could convince her to have part of the proceeds for the next show go to bc.org. Last year's Christmas show partially benefitted the Children's Hospital here, so I don't see why we couldn't do a bc.org benefit like that. It's something that I will be working on.
Speaking of skating, the World Championships are being held in Los Angeles this week, and we have tickets to the Ladies Free Skate on Saturday night. I'm SO excited--this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to go to the competition--it's rarely held in the States, and almost never on the West Coast. It'll be on NBC Saturday night, so if you watch it, look for me in the nosebleed section of Staples Center, LOL.
The other cool thing is that a lot of elite skaters are driving from L.A. to our rink to train this week, and Shizuka Arakawa, the 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist, was skating yesterday at my session. She's retired from competition, but is here to do TV commentary for Japan. Anyhow, I gave her a few pointers, and she was appreciative.
It was so cool to be right there with her--elite athletes are amazing.
-
Yep, You're right, Nash - that IS amazing. And how fun for you that it's on the west coast this year. Have fun - and drive carefully.
And I'm not even mentioning the whole Okinawa/Chile thing. ...good grief... That's off the charts!
-
Jackie! Such good news about your sister! I'm so relieved to hear that she is at stage I and won't have to do chemo most likely! Very good news. (I definitely wouldn't have done it if I had been at Stage I, but I didn't really have much option).
Most definitely I would love for all of us to get together! I will for sure be coming out to Southern California sometime in August, most likely the last week of August before school starts up. My son's daycare is closed, and we are going to take my in-laws on a vacation for their 40th wedding anniversary and my MIL's 60th birthday. I don't have the exact details worked out yet, but when I do, I'll let everyone know and who knows! Some of us might be able to connect! I would definitely be up for a short cruise too. I can't do it this summer because of the CA trip, but winter would be a better time for me to get out of the cold anyway!
Nash, sounds like a lot of fun stuff happening for you!
DeAnn
-
I'm in on any trip, any time, any where!!!! Actually, San Diego is great for me because my husband has relatives we can visit also. Chile, Okinawa.....Italy (hint, hint).
Nash...have a great weekend. This sounds so exciting. Enjoy.
Hugs to all,
Jackie
By the way....my fipples are HUGE!!!
Any words of wisdom from any fipple reconstructor patients? They are scary looking right now. Also, did your breasts get a little swollen?
-
Jackie - be patient. they are huge, because they will dramatically stretch out and become tiny... so fear not!
-
DeAnn, when you're in CA in August, I am definately planning on driving up to see you.
It's funny with our overseas travel plans--we actually never, ever go anywhere. I rarely even venture out of the county, LOL. The trip we took through CA up to Oregon last year was the first trip we'd taken in seven years, with the exception of a short 3 day jaunt up to Monterey the year before. What can I say--I don't get out much. We've been talking about a trip to Chile for years now--it keeps getting put off due to that pesky cancer problem we have in our family.
The Okinawa trip came sort of as a surprise--DD's Sensei goes over there every two years, and he almost never invites children from the dojo to go. This year he invited DD, so it's quite an honor for her. We contemplated all four of us going, but it's too expensive, plus I didn't know if my first adventure overseas should be to Okinawa in August to sit in an un-airconditioned dojo for hours on end.
-
Jackie--did Ann find out her ER/PR/HER2 status yet? If it comes back ER/PR+, HER2-, I wanted to mention to be sure that the onc orders OncotypeDX for her.
-
Thanks for the head up. We're going to onc on Wens to get all that information. Does that mean she will need chemo?
Hugs, Jackie
-
OncotypeDX can help make the decision about chemo. It gives a score (low, intermediate or high) that indicates the probability of recurrence, and also measures how hormone sensitive the tumor is. A low score means that HT is the way to go, a high score means chemo will be more effective, and an intermediate score is a grey area. You can get more info at www.oncotypedx.com. It's only available for ER/PR+ tumors.
-
Ok, so it's settled (sort of) The last week in August. Somewhere in California. I will do whatever I need to do to be there. DeAnn, do you know if it will be in Southern or Northern CA yet? Southern works best for us CA girls, with San Diego area being our first choice...but just let us know. I can get to San Francisco easily enough, too. And Ladies, even if DeAnn can only be with us one day because of family obligations, if someone wanted to come out here and stay with us we could go together to wherever she could meet us. That way you wouldn't have to come all this way for one day.
Disclaimer: Keeping in mind the "paradise" status of the desert where I live changes in August from "Paradise" to "Hell-like". The "Paradise" title during those months is then bestowed on any beach city..San Diego being one. (Weapons employed: We have a pool. We have air-conditioning, and we're not afraid to use it!)
OK, BC question: Nash, (or anybody) if Ann's ER/PR/HER2 status comes back positive and HER2 neg should she order OncotypeDX? Mine is ER+ (100%) PR- (0%) HER2-....I wonder if I should find out what mine is? We thought about it, and didn't think it was really necessary at the time, but I've wondered since then. I've wondered about my kids having the test, too. Do you think insurance would still pay for it after all this time (2 years!!!!Hooray!!) Any input?
