stinging and new pain one month after surgery
Hello -
I was hoping to cut and paste my post on the surgery board but it won't work. Since some of my symptoms are thickening, I was hoping you might help. Please if you have time, read my post of the same name over there. Oh - also - I noticed that some people said they had shrinkage - on the lower part of the same breast, I have noticed over the past couple of years the lower half inch to inch or so of the breast has shrunk in and is sort of dimpled. It looks strange and sort of contrary to gravity. The doctors say it's fine and doesn't match any symptoms of cancer. What the heck is it then? I'm worried.
Thanks!

floridian, have you had a breat MRI done? I read your post about your excisional biopsy, but wasn't sure if they did an MRI beforehand. ILC shows up very well on MRI.
I had breast shrinkage with my ILC--it wasn't noticeable until right when I was diagnosed, which was also when the ILC hardened up from thickening to a palpable lump that felt like IDC. The entire breast shrunk, though, not just one section. However, if I were you, I'd press for more answers on your situation.

Thanks for answering Nash. I did have an MRI done in July of 07 which just said Normal - that's it. Then Another in October of 2008 when these lumps or thickenings were first noticed and were very small. This radiologist's reports were much more detailed - she was recommended by my Gyn - it says: Right: Significant parenchymal enhancement. No abnormality noted. subcentimeter focus of signal void consistent with Mammomark Left: significant parenchymal enhancement, fibrocystic changes, no abnormality noted. This is abbreviated but you get the idea. My breasts are extremely dense. I've been told repeatedly by the radiologists that they can't tell anything from mammo and they couldn't see the birad4 US lump on the mammos. It does now say on the new MRI - MR may not detect some cases of DCIS or less angiogenic neoplasms, therefore, it should not be used to "exclude" DCIS. If there are suspicious calcifications or worrisome palpable masses, then biopsy should be still considered. Normal appearing lymph nodes may contain microscopic tumor. I don't know what the implications of density is on MRIs but from the looks of mine, it doesn't look easy to read and I would think that once a lesion becomes angiogenic ( has blood supply) - it's advanced. What types are not angiogenic? It says L-2 benign. What do you think?
Thanks!

floridian: some stuff doesn't show up on MRI. ILC is very tricky and sneaky. I also had breast dimpling before diagnosis. Have you had breast ultrasound? Was your mammogram digital? I also had extremely dense tissue and was told fibroadenomas, etc., was told to come back in six months. I now have Stage IIIC ILC. Don't give up on this. Insist on seeing a breast specialist, even if you have to travel to do it. Insist on a biopsy.
