    Okay, two things:

First, I mentioned the pills, because the doctor's office gave me a rebate certificate for either the Moviprep or the pill form (can't remember what they were called, threw the certificate out when I saw it expired in December).  The doctor (who's OWN OFFICE gave me the certificate for the stuff) smirked at me and snorted, "There is no such thing."

What a turd.  Pun sort of intended there.

The other thing: the prep was horrific.  I have never been so miserable, and when my alarm went off at 5:45 so I could get started drinking the awful stuff, I couldn't MOVE.  I could NOT move my arms and legs to get out of bed.  I stumbled everywhere.

Now, the day after, I still feel lousy.  I called the doc. to tell them, and at least the nurse was kind.  I told her how lousy I felt, and I told her I NEEDED to know the biopsy results asap.  She had originally told me not till Thursday or Friday, but after that, she told me she will post a note by the computer so the others can try to get my results sooner.
That's one of my angels.  The other one is from my son's therapy.  She had colon cancer, it turns out.  She is going to get pummeled with a lot of questions!  She took a bunch from me already.

    Spring,

Drat!!!  I hadn't heard that but I guess I'll find out when I see the dr.  If I have to resort to the liquid diet again I will.  I just know I cannot drink that liquid.  My back has gotten much worse since last year and I just could not take any vomiting.  Just had a stomach virus and ended up in the ER to stop the vomiting because I was in so much pain in my back.  Maybe if I "PROMISE" to drink lots of water something could be worked out.  Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, I love the verse at the end of your posts.  The first I saw it I stopped and wrote it down.  I try to put scripture that hits me up on the fridge so I see and think of those things instead of some of the other stuff that pops in.  Thanks for sharing it.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

Wendy, Claim the verse, woman! You go!

Whoopsie, let us know when you hear. I HATE the WAITING. the waiting is the HARDEST part!!!! ahhhhck!

You all, I would go ahead and ask for those pills. Maybe you can get them. This office may be pulling a fast one, or maybe it is just NC. If I have it coming out of both ends, I am not going to be pleased!!!! However, maybe I'll lose that last 5 pounds I am trying to shed, lol.

Hey, did you all lose some weight with these colonics????????? Maybe there is a silver lining here. lol

Hey, btw, I called my friendly neighborhood pharmacist, and he said the pills were called "Osmo-Prep.  He said the last he heard, there was talk of pulling them from the market, but he has not heard that they have been pulled for certain.

Layne - I like your closing. How do you apply this to your BC journey???  "Hit it with a sledgehammer until it submits or dies ...."

Yep, Osmo-Prep was what my husband had. Drinking "snot" LOL LOL. I laugh now!

    Hi,

Just to let everyone know - the phospho-soda is the prep taken off the market - there are even class lawsuits about it.  DH & I had colonoscopies a week apart in February.  I have had many of them (about 5 or 6, maybe???) because I have Crohn's disease which is a risk factor for colon cancer (add in the BC & my lifestyle, it's pretty much inevitable at this point).  I used the Go-Litely because it had worked well for me in the past and I don't mind the flavor.  The new prep they are using is to take an overdose of both ducolax and miralax starting the afternoon before.  DH did that one.  As much of a pain it is, it is necessary.

I have to have colonoscopies every two years and DH was told that since they found polyps both at his last one (5 years ago) and this one, he has to do them every three years.

Deb, I had never woken up before and I also woke up this time twice - the pain was intense, but they must have upped the drug each time, because I went back out cold and ended up not waking again until I was in the recovery area.

Good Luck, Deb, I really hope all is well with you.  And good for everyone who made the appointment - good luck to you all.

Hi Layne!  It's good to see you again!  I've been posting over on the Hormone page.  I hope you are doing well.

I had my 1st colonoscopy last year.  I was 43.  My PCP ordered it after my BC diagnosis.  I also have colon cancer in my family.  The way I understand it (from my genetic counselor), BC, Ovarian, Prostate, Colon and Pancreatic may all be related to BRCA2 mutation.  She recommended I be tested, as did one of my oncs (very strongly).  I haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet.

I did the go-lightly.  I will never drink Crystal Light lemonade again (or at least until my next colonoscopy).  I found it funny that it said that you should be "in the vacinity" of a bathroom...  Oh boy, I was glued to the loo for a few hours.  Thank goodness I was at home!!  I did a mental preparation for the prep.  I told myself I was doing a spa cleanse.

They told me every 5 years.  I didn't wake up, and I'm so sorry for those of you who did.

lexislove---My GI doctor said the recommendation to start earlier than 50 (40 or 45) would be based on my family history of colon cancer, not my personal or family history of bc.

OK, I have my appt for 4/16 and just looked at the prescription they gave me, given the pills are off the market.

It is for "HalfLytely" and Bisacodyl Tablets. "Bowel Prep Kit with Flavor Packs".

Is that what you ladies have used? Anne? Barbie?

Flavor packets? good grief. Blech...  Best to just "git 'er done". ....

spring----that sounds very similar to what I had to use for my last one 5 years ago (GoLytely and bisacodyl). I'm right behind you this time--4/18--they gave me scripts for miralax and ducolax.

My father died of colon cancer at 57.  Before I was diagnosed with BC (2008) I was supposed to have the first colonoscopy at 46. My onc told me that the on set of genetic cancer is 10 years earlier. I will be done with chemo in May, I am going on vacation in July, I am scheduled for colonoscopy in August and prophylactic mastectomy in September/October. Hopefully I will be done with all tests and surgeries to celebrate my first year NED anniversary - Oct 10, 2009.

Crap!  I thought breast, colon, pancreatic cancer was a one or another situation, certainly not both or all three.  Colon cancer is running al over my grandfather's side of the family, including his son, my uncle.   Crap, crap, crap!

Ladies, I am chewing my fingernails off waiting for my doc to call me with results.  I called this morning at 9 and got the "your results are on Doctor's desk, and he will call you later," which I always translate to: "This is bad news, and thank God I don't have to be the one to tell it to you."  I've always found that if it were nothing they'd say, "Your results say everything is okay."

I'm freaking out, and thankful my eyes went to the verse I have on my fridge: "And who of you by worrying can add a single hour to life" from Luke 12:25.

I just stopped doing laundry a moment ago and laid my head on the washing machine and prayed fervently.  Isn't that crazy?!?!

As for how often to do this hell, I am told every 3 years since I had two polyps.  Blech.  As for that one with the Bisacodyl tablets, my best friend and often times personal nurse said she likes that one best.  She said it is the easiest to endure.

As for staying close to the loo, I had finished drinking the crap, sat talking to my son, and while he was in mid-sentence, I yelped, "Gotta go!!!"  and ran to the potty.  I literally stayed there for two hours.  I had pre-planned the whole thing and even had magazines waiting.

I am usually an anti-read-on-the-potty person, but knew I would be there a while.

I personally prefer the Tucks.  It was soothing to have the witch-hazel and aloe combo.  This is gross, but I seriously sat on the potty the entire time, and only, ummmm.....utilized the Tucks about 5 or 6 times.  It was that constant of a, ummmmm.....flow.

Gross.  The things I share with my sisters here.

Oh this really helps me want to rush right to the phone and make my appt for this year. UGH!   The blessing is that thru the sharing of information, however gross at times, helps to relieve the obvious distress and lets you know that you don't have to go thru it alone.   All for one and one for all!!!!

Whoopsi, I've added my prayers to yours and hopefully you have heard something by now.  I truly believe every doc should go thru the process of being a patient, including having to wait for results from test, to see what it puts people thru.  So many of them take it very 'when I get to it', not realizing what those waiting are going thru.  You are an amazing and strong woman.

Well, time to make the call.  Have a great day everyone.  I, for one, appreciate all the information everyone has shared.  Thank you.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

    {{Deb}}

    Deep Breath; DEEP BREATH.

I hope you have heard by now, but usually doctors make all their calls at the end of the day, don't they?  Everything may be just fine and he just wants to discuss the appointment you have next week in addition to giving you the biopsy results.

Fingers & Toes crossed for you!!!

See photos of elephants appearing to grieve for a dying matriarch.

Here is a picture of some of the elephant sisters.  One elephant is trying to gently but firmly nudge the other one up and keep her going.  This is how I view my bc.org sisters.

I can never, ever say how much I love you ladies.  Thank you for nudging me and keeping me going.

I am getting in this late but my mom, when she went to the genetics counselor before her brca testing, said that colon, breast, and prostate cancer run in the same genes.

She had her first colonoscopy done this past Jan and she used the phospho soda prep. she was told to mix it in an 8 oz glass of orange juice. she mixed it in a 4 oz glass of juice and chased it with a 4 oz glass of untainted juice so she wouldn't have the snot taste linger.

My mil just had one done a month ago and she also got ill from the drink (she was hospitalized at the time) and they stopped the prep but the next day they prepped her the old fashioned way with cod liver oil and orange juice.

Deb just keep taking deep breaths. The week after my biopsy I made several calls to the dr's office to get the results and got the same answer, 'we don't have the results yet' or 'it is on the doctor's desk waiting for him to read them before we tell you.'

Hi-I had colo-rectal cancer in 1999 (stage 3) and BC in Feb. 2008 (stage 2). I had all the genetic testing done for both cancers and the conclusion was I didn't genetically get these cancers. The genetic's counselor said it was just bad luck. I was a little dumfounded but found it a little funny with all our scientific advances; it all boils down to bad luck. Here's to wishing all of us some GOOD luck!

Ladies, now I am really terrified.

I called again to see what time the office closes today.  She said 5 pm.  I said (and I quote), "I just need to be sure that Doctor-I-let-my-patients-wake-up-during-colonoscopies-and-let-them-live-in-fear is going to call today."

She said, (and I quote) "Doc doesn't usually return calls, the nurses do.  Did you make arrangements for him to call you?"

    I said no.

    She said to hang on.

She came back and said that doc will call me when he can, he got in "extremely" late.

I blurted, "Is he the one who has to call because it is a malignancy?!"

She was quiet for a moment, and said, "I don't know anything.  You ASKED for him to call you!"

I practically wailed, "NO I DID NOT!  I JUST WANT TO KNOW!!!!!!!"

    She said to hang on.

She came back on the phone and said Doc will call me when he can, and she doesn't "want me to worry," and as an afterthought, added, "I don't know anything."

OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I NEED MY ELEPHANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
