Denise, the way I understand it once your employer terminates you then you're eligible for the subsidy once you're on Cobra.  I was on LOA with short term disability then onto cobra, but still considered and employee.  In april they "terminate" me since I haven't been able to go back to work but then I qualify for the subsidy.

I called the Dept of Labor the said the IRS is reviewing what involutery means but at this time being laid off for a disability does not qualifiy for the reduction for cobra. The lady did say to call back in 3 weeks and see if it had changed. I will let you know when I find something out.

Since you dealwith insurance in GA, I have a question for you about converting COBRA coverage.  My husbands employer has been paying our COBRA for the last 18 months at $1400 per month becuase they thought it would be cheaper than us picking up their self-insured plan.  Now that the 18 months are up, we are not to sure they will pick up the increased rate of $1900 per month.  I still need to have multiply surgeries and my COBRA insurer says that I can not go else were and get coverage because there is a 10 year limit on CA from the date of dx.  I fell like we are caught between a rock and a hard place.  Do you have any insight?  I appriciate you input.

    Thanks
