mmdj43 - from what I understand soy is off limits because it encourages estrogen production and that is not something you want with bc. That is why soy is used in some of the things you an take for menopause. As far as the sugar the only things I have read is that they don't want you haveing to visit the dentist during chemo so they don't want any cavities. There may be other reasons too.

Gina,
Sorry to hear about your reaction. I believe you are the third person to have it.
I go on Monday and are obviously concerned. I am sure all will go well next week for you. Just another set back in this journey called BC...
I am taking noted on the hair stuff. I think I have a few days till I chop it all off.
Hope you slept well.
Gina try to enjoy your weekend and your family. Try to forget about this setback..
The same thing happened to Chick last friday. You can check her post on Monday the 16th . I cut and pasted a little for you.
Abraxane, cousin of Taxotere, with no reaction. 30-minute drip and now I am officially HALF FINISHED!!
Nana A..I know as a fact that we all who are hormone positive should avoid soy. The sugar stuff I don't know about..
Hugs to All.

To our new First Day of Spring Premiere Warrior Princesses (what a mouthful!!)
ccbaby, and IowaDiva. Gals, have a good weekend.
-
ginagina - so sorry you had such a bad reaction. But how great the nurses moved so quickly. And I don't think you look spolotchy!
I am enjoying my last couple of days of long hair before the pixie cut on Monday. It feels weird to be so far behind you all. I will be having chemo until September, by which time you'll all be posting picures of your glorious hair regrowth! Can't wait to see them.
-
OH! Just realized I neglected to post a big congratulations to our 3/19 Premiere gals Rusty and DebbyB. You may just get extra for my tardiness!
First up: a champagne cocktail and a light/refreshing fu-fu mojito ....

-
A Black Forest Shooter and a Moo Moo Tea
Congratulations gals
-
Alyad and others - My buffs arrived today.YEAH .These are great. I bought three, but I can already see myself living in just one. The others I like too, but not as much as the brown one. I bought:
Kash Pink Chocolate** My favorite
So far, I am wearing the chocolate one like a beanie. Nothing fancy but very, very comfortable even with my spiky splotchy hair!! Apologies for the candid pics. This is using the built in camera on my mac; it is late an I don't have a lick of makeup on. Oh well.
Hugs
gina

Marshall -this is for you!
Anyone interested, just click the picture and it should take you to You Tube. This is the first time I've seen Achmed, but I understand why you like him. Very funny. Ok, night night.

Gina and CC I am so sorry you had a bad time. I have a long list of meds that I am allergic to. I am getting nervous about my turn on the nasty taxetere. Today is day 5 for me on my first AC. I thought I may be naucious this a.m. But I had some toast w peanut butter and its working. Those cocktails look very yummy. I'll take a Black Forest it sounds dreamy.
Great news. My daughter just came home from a sleepover sick. Coughing, fever the whole thing. Yeah for me.
-
I also have heard to not eat soy. Does anyone know much we can have. Its in everything. Peanut butter, can spanis nuts cream of wheat. Everything I pick up says may contain or traces of. I wonder if this is acceptable. Also, are we to avoid coffee for reasons other than caffine being dehydrating. Or is there somthing I dont know about. Some one please fill me in.
Gina I love the brown. I am definitely looking for one.
Sakura I will be here with you for a while. Probably July. You are such a pretty young woman , you dont even need hair to look good.
-
Gina - Sorry to hear about the reaction. I go next friday and am nervous about that too.
I got up this morning and took a shower. Had to lop off about 8 inches of hair before I could even brush it. Buzz this afternoon when my son gets home. Hubby just can't bring himself to do it.
-
Gina sorry to hear about your reaction. I reacted first time to the taxotere and they gave me benedryl and more steroids and I was able to take it- I am worried about how it will go the second time next week. I am living in my kashfly brown buff. Right now I'm trying to hold the hair in- I'm scared to touch it. I could pull a lot out last night. I slept in the buff and I'm afraid to take it off to see how much is unattached. Shaving in about 10 hours- we have been cleaning the house like mad. normally we are very cluttered here- so having a party is a major undertaking. But it's good- makes us clean up. DH and BIL got the drywall done in a big space that is a converted garage- great to have furniture out there again.
ccbaby- sorry to hear you had a reaction- I had the same thing. I had hoped to go for a walk after treatment, but being zonked out on benedryl kinda nixed that. I'm in MO too- where are you?
Datadrudge- another from MO! I was feeling like I was the one of the only midwesterners on here- lots of east and west coast plus some aussies and canadians? i think. well dh keeps shooting me dirty looks (not really!) for sitting here and playing on the computer when we have a crapload of stuff to get done in the next 7 hours before party.
I am really happy chai still tastes good, I have been afraid to drink it til today since the treatment. I went out to Rib Crib last night to have my favorite Dynamite Chicken Salad- it was dissappointing- tasted weird. off to vaccum.

Hi, everyone:
Back from New York on Wednesday night, then back to work at 6 a.m. Then started chemo yesterday morning. I will update on New York and the miracles that occurred at home and away during that trip. But right now, I will give the account of my chemo experience.
I apologize that I have been so far unable to catch up on posts, but I will do my best. I did skim...
The night before chemo, I kind of hit the wall. I had a bit of a tantrum because I decided this wasn't fun anymore (like it ever is, but I've had it pretty easy up until now, truthfully.) Didn't sleep very well, needless to say.
I went to the Cancer Center at 10:45 a.m. for blood work and then had an 11:00 a.m. appt to meet with my wonderful onco and his doubly wonderful nurse. I got copies of pathology and CT scan reports, and they explained everything that would be going on.
I reiterated my motion sickness and pregnancy sickness, and I asked them to give me as much as they could to combat that. So I received Emend and Zofran in my IV, along with Ativan, since I was pretty nervous. They weren't too busy that day, so hubby -- who had worked a night shift the night before -- got to sleep in another recliner! They then infused the doxarubicin (Adriamycin), which only took a few minutes, then the Cytoxan for about 45 minutes to an hour.
They had me suck on ice chips to help prevent mouth sores. I brought my PC and watched some TV shows I had downloaded. Everyone was so pleasant, and the place was open and airy, which I love. I was pretty high and shaky once I was done. I received prescriptions for Emend and Zofran to take for the next two days. They also gave me prescriptions for Compazine and Ativan to use as needed. I also received a Neulasta shot, which hubby will administer in a couple of hours.
The most annoying side effects so far are weird dreams...always ending with me running into something, stepping off a curb wrong, falling, or something like that. I wake up suddenly. I'm not frightened or anything, but I didn't get much sleep last night.
I developed a headache later in the evening last night, and I haven't been able to get rid of it. It's pretty low-grade right now, so I'm lucky. Usual pain medications (naproxen, Excedrin, ibuprofen) haven't helped. So I took one of my leftover Vicodin from my surgery. Still didn't do much.
I feel really lucky, though. I was able to do some spring cleaning this morning (beautiful day today in Iowa). Now I'm resting.
I have a question: do you girls have a sunscreen recommendation? I know that I have to put it on everytime I'm outside. There are so many to choose from...do you have one you prefer?
More later! Hugs to all!

Hi everyone from VA:
Gina.....sorry you had a reaction to T...minor setback. Next week is a new week. You will get back on track with your chemo! Love your buffs and seriously....YOU dont' need make up girl. You are beautiful any time of day. I still haven't ordered any and I know I need to. I don't think the wig and I are going to become good friends.....I think I am OK with no hair (T minus 3-4 days) so better hurry up and order some now.
IowaDiva Love your profile picture....beautiful family. Sorry about your dreams and anxiety BUT Congratulations on chemo #1 being under your belt!!! Way to go. Sounds like your onco has your drug regimen under control. You have gotten the same meds I was offered. I will tell you that the worst was coming off the decadron high on day 3....when it hits, have a coke and then go chill out. Then the next 2-3 days take your anti nausea meds (compazine) even if you don't feel quesy. I had emend for 3 days, they gave me a shot (I will have to ask next time what it was) for nausea that lasted 5 days...but still had mild head achy feeling that I felt better when I took the anti nausea drug. I even took dramamine on day 3.I only had a couple nights where I was up until Midnight and back up again at 4 or 5AM....which stinks with 3 kids under 4 years of age. UGH. Glad those few days are over. My sleep has returned to normal.
NYDeb48 Good luck with the buzz today....please post some pictures! I am 4 days behind you
I am getting family pix tomorrow at 9, I hope everyone cooperates. It should either go great or my 3 kids may just tear the entire place up. As long as they can get the 5 of us in 1 or 2 pictures I will call that success! We have never gotten family pix together....funny how being diagnosed all of a sudden I am getting the things done that I always said I would and never made time for.
Sakura We will be with you until you are done with your chemo. We aren't leaving anyone behind. We will all get through chemo, it'll be over before we all know it.
Everyone: I have been taking one step at a time and haven't even talked about what to eat before, during or after chemo....I am going to bring it up at my next chemo treatment.
I have been lucky so far regarding food tastes, mouth sores, etc....I wonder if this could all change with chemo #2.
-
Gina,
I do hope you do not make me into an alcoholic. Each day the drinks look more and more yummy. Hope you are enjoying your weekend despite your setbacks. So I see you are enjoying your buffs. I haven't bought any yet.
Nasharayne- That is really too bad that you are lacking a support system. WE are here with unconditional support for you. You can complain all the time .That is what we are here for..
Ladies. I see that some of you are once agin talking about Heartburn.I was told to take a prilosec pill each morning to prevent this. I take it throughout the cheom not just when I feel bad. I also take each night two senekot as well as two colace to prevent problems.
Well my hair is really falling out in clumps. I had it cut short last weekend - day13 of TC .I hope to avoid the shaving till tomorrow evening. My wigs are up high in the closet so the cats do not get them. I can't say I am looking forward to this next step but ..It is all part of this journey which I call BC.
Monday is TV #2..
Hugs to all..

Hi all - hope everyone is having a good se free weekend.
ginagina - I am so sorry you had such a reaction. One drop geez it makes you realize how potent these chemicals are.
all the ladies with the pixies and buzz cuts - you all look really good. I hope I look half as good when it's my turn. I had my first Taxon on Monday but no hair loss feeling yet. I hear it sould be about day 11 - is that right?
I'm feeling a little blue today so I'm just sitting here catching up on emails and posts and cleaning out old paperwork and other stuff.. Also sitting here getting inspired watching "Clean House". Can they come to my house? I need someone to unclutter me.
I do have a question though and I may have missed the post but does everyone get a chemo cocktail or is it after a certain amount of time? I was going to use mine as a screen saver and do a "toast" to all of us when I needed a pick me up. But I can't find it.
-
Gina & CC - so sad that you had bad reactions. Hope you feel better soon. Drink lot's of water to flush it away.
Didle20 - we are definitely on the same schedule, I am doing every 3rd Wednesday, my 2nd is also on 4/1, and taking Thurs and Friday off from work as well. I also feel the same about the wig, but working at the elementary school, I definitely need to have hair on my head. I did go on-line and looked at the buffs and will probably order some. They seem to be no fuss and have several options for how you can wear them.
BUFF ? - How do they run as far as size. My head measures 53cm, which could be a junior or regular. I'm worried the regular may be a little big for my head. My plan is to try to find a store that carries them to try out before ordering a bunch. I think REI carries them so planning on going tomorrow to check and see if they do have them in the store to try.
-
gina and cc! Hope you are feeling better, it is so scary when things don't go as planned. I am glad you had good care!
I'm at day 11 and the hair is still here, I love the way you all look in your buffs, but I am short and have this small square head and would look like a cartoon, I am sure! I am going to go with baseball hats and the wig when my time comes, hopefully not until Thurs, for the buzz Dawn
-
Michele54 - crimeny! I can't find it either (this thread or the other)!!!! So sorry girl. What would you like? I will serve you anything you are interested in!!
-
Oh good I thought it was chemo brain lol. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm i HAVE NO IDEA. Nothing minty - maybe fruity - tequila is my favorite but maybe a real "girly" drink. Pomegranate martinis are awesome - has you tried them?. I just wish anything I drank would stop tasting like salt.
Thanks for the cocktail.......................
I just thought of something, if my cocktail isn't there, I'm guessing none of us 16th starters are there either.
-
Gals, I just ordered 2 buffs from planetbuff.com......if you buy from them make sure to type in curesearch in the redeem coupon spot...saves you the shipping charges. If that doesn't work, just google coupon code for planetbuff.com for the latest coupon code.
-
Michele54 - you are abosutely right! Marvil and deeja6- if you are reading...chime in. I am at the bar and starting to mix (it is 5:15pm here, so the bar is open EVERYWHERE). Let me know what suits your fancy. Michele - ONE pomegranate martini coming up...
-
I started chemo on 3/05, weekly treatments of Abraxane. I've had 3 so far....anyone else getting Abraxane?
-
YUMMY thanks - care to join me?
-
One Pomegranate Martini
I had to look up the recipe. I've never had one but the do sound really good! Start with about 1-1/2 cups of good pomegranate juice (going with a well recognized name brand) or you can go the old fashion way (but seems like a lot of work)
Add 2 ounces of Absolute Citron (yeah baby) and 1 ounce of Cointreau
Shake ingredients in a shaker (just like Oprah) with a cup of ice and put in chilled martini glasses. Put pomegranate fruit into glass as garnish.
Presto, chango...One luscious Pomegranate Martini
For anyone who is in the mood, here is a link to Oprah's recipe.
And, OH YES, I am defintely making one too!!!
-
cichlid - welcome to the group! we would love to add you to the roster. What's your chemo schedule? Abraxane weekly for how long? Anything else?
And what fortuitous timing. I just had an allergic reaction to Taxotere yesterday an got bumped a whole week to start Abraxane next week (so I am hunting for info as we speak...er...type/chat). Chick17 also on the same script. She is a week ahead of me. How is it treating you?
-
Everyone - thanks for all the well wish by the way. I am doing fine. Just a bit down about my schedule being pushed out a week (I am aiming to go to my 20 year college reunion over Memorial Weekend). I am in WA and the reunion is in VA. I haven't seen these people in YEARS (I went to my 5 year, but turn out was rather soft). I am trying not to get disappointed if it isn't going to happen...but I am also trying to be hopeful.
In the meantime, I feel FINE. Like I said, I don't think I even got a whole DROP. It was probably only half a drop of Taxotere. But I had double up on the decadron the night before and the morning of, got more of it in my pre-med drip, along with 50 mg of benedryl by mouth, not to mention more in my drip when I had the reaction. So...there really isn't anything in my system right now to cause pain/suffering. On the bright side, I have a feel good week ahead of me. Not too shabby.
Oh, an I might add, if you gals hadn't caught on yet...I am a night owl. Always have been. What do you call a night owl with insomnia?
ME! I realize that my posts from last night might have been a bit much. I will try and tone in down in the future.
Cheers!
-
ginagina - these are ABSOLUTELY the best trust me and they have pomegranate which is an antioxidant and good for you. What more can we ask for? If you want to cheat a little and not go from scratch, Smirnoff sells them pre made and they are almost as good.
-
Again, I took too long to respond and lost track.
CC and Gina, I'm sorry you had reactions. Sounds scary (and now I'm scared!).
Nasharayne, lean on us. Or maybe you could drop hints to your mom that she could send food from takeout places near you?
I can't figure out how to get the pictures from Snapfish to here. I thought I followed the directions, but nothing happened. I guess I'll just put them on the facebook group. Speaking of which: how do you make albums in the group? Is that something only an officer can do? It would be nice if we could have a family gallery, a bald/wig gallery, etc. I have to admit to being entirely and pleasantly surprised at my GI Jane appearance. My head is shaped nicer than I ever would've guessed. I don't look bad!
I ordered a buff yesterday. Thanks for the coupon code! I bought a green UV one, I can't remember what it's called. The Look Good Feel Better lady told me I should do lots of green to bring that color out of my brown/hazel eyes. It's the oddest thing: I never felt particularly good about my appearance, but all of the sudden I feel kind of pretty. My wig color is so beautiful, my buzzed head doesn't look bad, and with the belly fat sucked into my chest, my body is kickin' on the facade (naked is a whole nother story). I wore this cute little black dress to the bar mitzvah today, and I felt so confident. I could get a big head (no pun intended)! Anyway, it's nice, but I'd rather be unattractive and not have BC. Oh well.
