Is everyone taking Decadron with the herceptin?  I did my first dose, and then stopped, and have had bone pain since, so today I tried it again with the decadron, see if that helps.  Just wondering what everyone else is doing.

I didn't have anything with the Herceptin. I had terrible bone pain in the hips, thighs and legs. When I asked, no one thought it was the Herceptin causing it, but it went away for the most part, after I finished H.

No premeds for herceptin. I think we are just the unfournate ones who got severe SE from H. I only have 2 more to go. But I am wondering if now that their is a trial for 2yr if I will be asked about it. Part of me wants to say NOWAY!!! cause I hate living this way with the pain, but the other part says push for it since I am HER-2+++ I don't know . My Onc. may not even bring it up but I am going to. I want to see what she thinks. I guess I got a little fear going on inside of me!!!

Laura, I am sorry your still getting the pain, Even though the pain pills don't take it away completly they do make it less painful. Are you able to take anything?? Cause this is real, and my Onc. finally aknowledge the fact. My Onc. nurse here can tell the diffrence when it starts hitting me I become pale and very quiet. Usually I am chatting away.

                                                    Good-luck!!!!

I am still taking the vicodin for the bone pain.  I tried nuerontin, but it made me dizzy!! Thought I had bone mets for a while there!!!!  The decadron didnt help, just wired me out and didnt sleep last night, LOL.  Wont be trying that again!!  I would still do the herceptin for as long as it was offerered!!  The pain sucks, but its better than cancer Wink

    Laura,

I am so med sensitive its hard sometimes to deal with, I could not take decadron at all cause it raised my BP to high! Any pain meds I take just make me feel like I have drank a pot of coffee, it really stinks. So thats why I am conteplating on asking for the 2 yr. If I could find something that would work and not make me dingy or hyper I would want to do it. My EF heart function has stayed at 51% so I may not be a candidate whether I want it or not. I am seeing a pain specialist now to try to figure some things out. He uped my cymbalta which is suppose to help with nerve problems so far, next time we meet we are going to figure out the pain meds. Have you tried any thing else other than neurotin?? Lyrica is suppose to help didnot me but thats me. Also the cymbalta I don't see a change, but I think as long as I am doing H I won't!!!! Just a few suggestions for you.

Yeah ive just kind of decided i'm just going to have to deal with it.  My onc said 1-2 vicodin a day is ok, as long as i understand the addiction danger, which I do.  It sucks, but some days are not so bad as others, and i still think the taxol had a part in this.  It caused me soooo much bone pain.  My onc seems to think over time it will get better! Fingers crossed!!!!

I don't take any premeds with my Herceptin. I take Benadryl on an almost constant basis for the runny nose. I do experience a lot of bone pain and overwhelming fatigue.... I will complete 2 years of Herceptin in May. I have taken Lortab for the bone pain but was becoming concerned about addiction as it seemed that I was having to take more and more to get any relief. My doctor recently prescribed me Ultram and it actually is doing a good job of getting me through the work day. I still have to take a Lortab by the end of the work day to get through the evening but at least I'm not having to take as much anymore. You may want to check out the Ultram, it is not a narcotic so doesn't give that groggy or foggy feeling.

I don't get any premeds with the Herceptin - and my bone pain I attibute to the Arimidex which is sad, because I'll be finished with Herceptin next month - but I'll need to stay on Arimidex for 4 more years, sigh.

    Delores,

The vicodin helped the bone pain.  I had it really bad with the taxol, i was in major pain for about four days.  It did seem to get easier as each one went, but i had it every two weeks four times, so i think mentally counting it down helped.  It was horrible, but it worked!  I had chemo first and no cancer left at my surgery, so i'm sooo glad I didnt switch anything.  I do think i still have bone pain from it, but NOTHING like those four days.  If your in alot of pain, ask your Dr for something, you shouldnt have to deal with that.

I had horrible bone/joint pain as well; Norco seems to take care of it (although makes me a little dizzy and constipated). I have 1 more full cycle of Taxotere/Cytoxin/Herceptin, then only H for rest of year. Doc has me on two 4mg Dexamethosone (generic for Decadron, I think), twice a day, on day before and day after major chemo.

I finished taxotere/cytoxan/ (herceptin weekly) about three weeks ago. Now I will have herceptin every three weeks for a year. My bone pain is very bad. My hips, thighs and shoulders. Dex made me feel wired all the time. During my chemo my Onc had me take Claritin. He said the Claritin would reduce the bone pain I would get from the Neulasta shot. I still had bone pain but not like I am having now. I am thinking about trying the Claritin for this bone pain. I'll let you know how it works.

    Lined,

It did for me. My hair began growing back and I had no side effects.. I still got benadryl and pepcid as a pre chemo drug and had them do 1 hour infusion for each herceptin and perjeta. Every 3 months you need to have your heart checked for the ejection fraction. Mine was fine. I completed my year on May 30 of this year and just now started the Nerlynx and so far, no side effects from that either, except it makes me tired. They say that gets better with time. Good luck and I hope yours is as easy to do as mine was.

Thank you. It’s good to hear encouraging stories. I have one more AC treatment on August 28. That date stays in my mind day and night and I wonder how I will feel when I leave the hospital. Although I will not be officially done, but I have to believe that the worst is over. There are days when I just don’t think my body can take another infusion

Lined, you seem to be about even with me, just 1 year later. I finished my heavy chemo Aug 28th 2017; then radiation 7 weeks, and just H and P for the rest of the year till May 30th. I did not have AC, I had taxotere and carboplatin, both take your hair away, though. Yes, you are right the worst is over unless you need radiation, for me that was worse than chemo. Still suffering from side effects of the radiation treatments.

carmastr835: I am schedled to do radiation after chemo treatments. Why was radiation a terrible experience, if you don't mind sharing? I was hoping it wasn't too bad.
