LJ13:  Well if that "will never fly" here in the US then we will never be protected by the FDA!  When ever there is a built in conflict of interest as in the acceptance of money (other than a direct established fee for trials) by the businesses that the FDA is designed to supervise there will be corruption and that is what has happened with the FDA today.  All this does is set up a false feeling of security for the American public..

When I see a patient here on this site claim to be protected by the FDA I cringe at their nieve approach to their own life.. And if the American public didn't has vigilant watchdog groups we would NEVER know the harm that is being done by such an organization.  It's part of our government so it may take time to change (or eliminate and start again) but it must be done to clense the decision making process that is designed to protect our lives.

    IMO - Best

I do believe that Rx drug ads simply encourage viewers to say "Gee, I must get my doc to prescribe that for me", thus leading to increased insurance/medicaid/medicare costs (well, we know for sure that that is exactly why pharmas advertise in the first place).  Maybe the U.S.'s major battle with rising health care costs (15% of GDP) could be an incentive to restrict Rx drug ads in the media.

I was just told I have Long Bone Neuropathy, and they wanted to prescribe Gabepentin, it's Neurontin, so glad I read this. I"m going to pass it on to my onc.
