Prosthesis-- Doubts and Questions.
I am very near to celebrating my 13th survival anniversary. Woooohooooo!!!!!!!!! Sadly I have never been able to get the reconstruction surgery done. I had an 11 month old daughter with special needs and a 5 year old son and naturally my world revolved around them. Getting into the hospital and leaving my kids behind always bothered me and never could do it until it was a matter of life and death. The reconstruction thing keeps getting postponed and it is nearly 13 years now and may be it will never get done.
I am not a very small breasted woman. 36 C is my size and it is very uncomfortable not wearing a bra and having one boob. I am very uncomfortable with the appearance of me. So I used to pad up the operated site which is very difficult. Three years ago I discovered the comfort of prosthesis. I just have one problem with the prosthesis. I live in a place where it is very hot and the prosthesis are coming apart in summer. I cannot afford them more often for the reasons
1) It is not available in the place I live in
2) They are extremely expensive when I try to buy them from the cities which cannot be done often.
Any idea which prosthesis would be comfortable in extremely hot climate and also would be long lasting?

Have you thought about a prophylactic mastectomy? I was large breasted and was often uncomfortable with one because to match it, the prosthesis had to be large, which made it heavy and expensive. Six months ago I had my "good" breast removed and I am so happy I did. I can now be any size I want and can even go without. I can by cheaper, smaller prostheses on-line and I am much more comfortable, I know it is not the right decision for everyone but for me it was.
Best of luck to you, Farila

Farila,
You might want to check out my non-profit website, BreastFree.org. In the Breast Forms section (http://breastfree.org/viewer.php?num=42), I recommend breast forms that I and other women have found the most comfortable.
Silicone forms tend to be the most lifelike, but some can feel hot and heavy. The silicone forms I like often have some kind of fabric and/or filler on the back to make them cooler. I also recommend some non-silicone forms, which are very lightweight, cool, and easy to care for. Most of these forms are available in the U.S. and Europe. I'm not sure about India.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Miamimama and Erica. I don't think I am going for the prophylactic mastectomy just because I love what I have and do not want to lose it until it becomes necessary. 36C is not that huge considering my weight LOL.
but cannot go with just one.
I will go and check out the site Erica. I know that in India we do not have much options. I am trying to buy something online in USA.
Love and hugs
Farila
