Hi ladies - This has probably already been discussed but I can't seem to find it.

I have silicone implants (bilat) under muscle and am not happy with my overall bust look.  My implants are wide and flat. Prior to BC (7months ago) I was working out and my original girls were not too bad for a 47 year old.  Anyway, my question is this...Would working my pectoral muscles help me get a fuller more rounder look?  Or, is it possible that by working the chest I will be pulling my implants in flatter?

Hi Journey...I'm not sure that this particular question has been addressed here before. I am about to have silicone implants under my pecs, but I had a lumpectomy on my left breast only and this recon effort is to fill in the divot that the surgery left. Before the lumpectomy (and possible mastectomy...it was still uncertain which it would be before surgery), I worked my pecs majorly and found that most of the "growth" occurred above the actual breasts, on my chest, so that it made the breasts less distinct and the chest look like a continuation of them. Does that make sense? Anyway, from that I conclude that you might be widening the mounds even more, but won't get more projection. Of course I could be totally wrong about that. Did you happen to have a physical therapist who you can contact with your question?

Finally, I'm wondering if your PS knows that you're dissatisfied and, if so, has s/he offered any solutions? If I were you, I'd definitely ask. We go through enough crap that we deserve to be as satisfied with the results of our treatments as possible!

Hi Marin - yes that does make sense.  I have noticed in men who really pump iron that their pecs are wide mounds and not necessarily projected.  I will see my PS later this week and this is a subject I want to discuss with him.  Guess if I can avoid more surgery that's what I would like to do so that's why I am asking the question.  Thanks for your input and good luck with your surgery! -

Saw my PS yesterday and asked the question and he said working my pecs probably will not make any difference in the size or shape of the mounds.  He told me I am free to return to my pre bc upper body work out so I will start back today (slowly).  I have capsular contraction (sp?) so since I have to have surgery again will have higher profile implants put in.  Hopefully that will help with the flatness!

I had to have a revision of my reconstruction because the original implants that were put in were moderate profile.  The were very wide and flat, looked rediculous on my chest wall and seemed to hang out in my arm pits.  It is a much longer story than this but essentially I had them replaced by a different PS using a high profile round implant and they look 100% better.  Interestingly enough both implants had the same 500 cc fill but you could tell a huge difference in the shape.  I found out later that the ones the first PS used were more often used for augmentation not reconstruction that is why they were so wide and flat.  They are used to support those that do have breast tissue on top.

I work out all the time but I did not do a lot of pects until all my surgeries were finished.  I didn't want any one to blame the weird look on something I did.  Now I am back to my full work out and even started a kick boxing class.

    Best of luck to you
