Hi Deanna! Wink and I are a few hours apart, but my daughter goes to college up around where Wink is and was so impressed at her family name!!!! (Wink, it still cracks me up, you are famous to her!)

Susie!!! Woooo! You did it girl!! That is the first step, getting your sneakers on and getting out there! You are over a major hurdle!

PT, where are you located? Is it warm there yet? It looks like another great day here in NC, will get out for a walk, and then we have to do the weekly grocery shopping, which is an EVENT in ITSELF!!!

    Springie in Springtime...

I had a fill of 210 cc's on Friday which brought me right back to playing the "dying queen".  I was able to do 30 minutes on the elliptical and 100 sit ups on the ball this morning.  I plan on going back to work tomorrow so I went for a drive and to two stores.  It wiped me out and am having pain again.  I am going to do my best tomorrow but if it turns out I can only stay at work for half days, thats ok too.

okay ladies!  you did it.  after surgery, chemo, and then radiation (just finished in early february) i've been feeling like a lump.  looking at late-winter yuckiness didn't inspire me to do anything about it.  i've gained twenty pounds durning this cancer fun, and i know my spring clothes aren't going to fit.  you've given me a boot in the butt.  gonna sign off the computer and get on the treadmill.  i know it's there somewhere under the snowpants and the recycling.  thanks, lynn

I'm on the back side of marathon shift here at the hospital (just keep thinking, seven days off, seven days off).  I broke out of the lab and took a walk-about around the hospital campus (picked up a bunch of trash too).  There are no level walking areas here - all up & down - makes for a good, little workout.  It's gorgeous out!!!!  I love Daylight Savings Time....wish we never had to switch to Daylight Spending Time!

Deanna - good to see you too; thanks for the congrats!  I kind of lot touch with the TC group; I've been hanging out with my sisters from Sept 08 Chemo for the most part. Hi Singapore Chris, Hi Springy Laughing

Springy - I want to see your henna'd coiffure!  I actually live in the mountains south of Franklin - but have been to Boone many, many times (way before I knew that I was a Winkler); my adopted parents had a vacation home on Sugar Mt in Banner Elk.  I'm actually related to Daniel Boone!

Hope all of you have a wonderful Sunday evening (remember when Sunday evenings were reserved for the Wonderful World of Disney?).

    Love & toe-touches

I used to love The Wonderful World of Disney!  My dad used to make a HUGE bowl of popcorn.  You know the kind popped in oil with a whole stick of melted butter on it!!!!!

I did walk the dog today but the rest of the day has been spent in carpools.  It is a new sports season so evaluations and try-outs etc etc are the order of the day.

Spring, I live in Maryland.  It was gorgeous here today.  It is still 76 degrees. Hope it stays this way for awhile.

It is so great to see so many of you making a committment to good health. As one who has been there, done that, and lost 35 pounds since finishing treatments, I must add "Full steam ahead!" You can do it. Getting into those size 6 jeans is such a reward that I will never go back. Since my healthier lifestyle is now a habit, and not a "diet" it will be easy to maintain. Remember it is all about eating for health! Now I just wish you all would stop bragging about your weather. It has been a long, icy, snowy, winter and now we have 2 days of rain. Enough already! So please refrain from mentioning the balmy sunshine!

I remember those wonderful Disney shows too, and I use to love to get up early on Sat. morning for reruns of the mickey mouse club. Those were the days-only three channels to choose from and no remote. How did the guys ever survive back then??? But now we have the "Amazing Race". We can travel all over the world for free. And don't let hubby touch the remote!

Hi all! Did the almost 4 mile walk Sat and Sun! I was feeling it going up the hills in my gluts and hamstrings! So good to feel the body working! Not huffing and puffing on the hills as much either!

Here are pics of my BEFORE AND AFTER henna hair!!!  I had trouble posting the pics, I could see them but nobody else could!!! So let me know if this works?? I have just been wearing a ball cap on my exercise jaunts. Too hot for the Wig! (I decided I could do very short hair as long as it was not GRAY very short hair! ha!)

    Springie....

(Winkie, I am going to tell my daughter you are related to Daniel Boone!!! LOL!! She will be amazed! You are a true Mt. Woman! Good on the walking!)

Hey Wink....we may be related, as I'm related to Daniel Boone too...through Rebecca Boone!  LOL  Talk about the 6 degrees of seperation! LOL

Spring...the hair looks great!  I'm finally letting mine grow back in.  I've been shaving it because it had not all started to grow back, but not it is.  Prior to bc...I wore my hair very short.  I guess I'm feeling guilty about mine growing back, as my 18 year old daughter has alopecia and would do anything for her hair to grow back in.  I told her I had no problem keeping mine shaved, as I have been going out bald and people love it.  But she doesn't want me to....she struggles with her hair loss daily, but has handled it with such grace!

I took the day off yesterday from formal exercise...but ran errands all day!  Today I teach Zumba from 4-5 and tomorrow I'm teaching a group of high school students from 3-4 and then have my normal class from 6:30-7:30.  I'm also teaching a girls softball team this Saturday, in addition to my normal classes.

I made it into the gym this morning but for some reason 30 min on the machines almost did me in.  Last week I was fine. I will keep at it anyway. Tomorrow I might try a class instead.

    Keep moving those muscles ladies.

Hi, all ~  Your hair looks great, Spring.  I'd tried henna a few weeks ago, but it washed out almost immediately, possibly because I forgot to use color-safe shampoo.  So, just a word of caution so that you don't have the same disappointment.

My almost 3 mile walk today seemed noticeably easier -- both physically and mentally.  In fact, I finished it in 40 mins., so I probably need to figure out how to add to my route (within a gated community), without retracing my steps. Over the weekend DH and I did some hiking in Joshua Tree National Park which isn't too far from where we live.  We only did 1.5 miles (off trail), but it was fairly rugged, with wildflowers starting to bloom -- spectacularly beautiful!

Well, here's to a week of new physical & fitness accomplishments for us all!        Deanna

I walked 3.25 miles over lunch, and got back just in time for the department meeting!

Dianne, thanks for hair support! Did you have any lymph nodes removed? If so be careful to ease into push ups. (You don't want to get a "lymphatic reaction" and get lymphademia!) A woman at the center had this happen to her - she pushed herself too hard at pull ups with her trainer! :O

I too need to do arms and abs!!!

Deanne, I have several more hennas, so it's okay if it comes out. I am excited to try strawberry blonde next. It is so easy when your hair is this short! LOL...

Boy you all make me feel lazy. You are all doing so well and so much exercise. I am just struggling along here.

Beverly your hair looks great, but I wish you would have let us see all of your sweet self.

I was released from my radiation onc today, don't have to go back for 3 weeks. I am so glad that is OVER! Now maybe my red blood cells can recover and I can make it to the mailbox without feeling like I am going to pass out. I was not able to take anything other than a multi vitamin during rads. They said today I can take whatever supplements I want, so I started on vitamin c, vitamin E, and calcium with vit d. What all are you taking? Any suggestions on what I should take to help my body heal and build back up?

Susie ~  You are barely out of rads (like today)!  And, you've got that tightness going on.  Give yourself a week or two to recoup.  It wasn't until I saw this thread -- 3 weeks post my last rads -- that I had the energy to even think about exercising.  If you can get out and walk or bike a little, that's great.  But don't compare yourself to anyone else.  We just want you to feel good about what you can do -- not bad for what you can't.

Remember ~ "Comparison is the thief of joy."  Deanna

Today I actually talked one of my friends who really just wanted to curl up on the couch into going to the gym with me.  We warmed up on the elliptical and then went to the weight room.  It was packed with people who are still sticking to their new years resolutions.  So it took awhile but I got through all my weights.

Spring.... I love the excuse to avoid pull ups.  I never liked those anywayTongue out

Susie give yourself another week maybe two if you need it.  I was a mess yhr first week after rads and my skin was way to tender for even walking. In a couple of weeks you will start to get your energy back then you can ease into some exercise.I was so relieved to be through the stress of those treatments. Glad you joined us on this thread.

Lisa  How fit do you have to be to join a zumba class? They offer one at my gym on Fridays but so far I have only been using the machines and just starting back into fittness.  Today they have a newcomers class comb of wights and light arobics which I will try.

Here are some tips to add some exercises to your walks. First take a hand weight and an IPOD. I work out one arm through each song as I walk and then keep changing. Music really helps you move faster and makes it more fun. Listen to fun stuff. If you do not want to carry weights, hug a tree. I stop at trees or signs along the and do "wall"  pushups. Also try putting your back to a wall or tree in a sitting postion. Hold this postion and it really works the abs and thighs. Remember to constantly think about pressing the naval to the spine. You can also work the triceps by sitting on the edge of a bench and doing pushups. If you find some steps, put your toes on the edge and lower your heels to stretch the calves. Walk on curbs like a balance beam for building core strength. Be creative. You would be surprised how much you can add to an outside workout with no equipment. I never go to the gym. I just find treadmills too boring. The fresh air feels so healthy and I love communing with mother nature.  But I would really like those Zumba classes. Lisa, do you sell your own DVD's?

mumayan the great thing about Zumba is that any fitness level can take it...because you just do what you can do!  I have kids from 7 to 66 taking my classes.  If there is a move they can't do...we tell them to do their own thing, just keep moving.

I started at home using the DVDs..because there were no classes here.  I saw Zumba on the Today Show a year or so ago and it looked fun.  So I found the DVD's on Ebay...which is where I recommend you look for them Vivre!  You can find the old ones...it is a set of four and they are the basics.  In the beginning I could barely get through an hour...now I teach at least one class a day...and they are 55 minutes long.  Some days I teach two.  I continued all through chemo...and it really helped.  Although it did slow me down a bit!

After doing Zumba at home...people wanted me to get certified to teach.  I've been teaching since April.

Just remember...there is no right or wrong way to Zumba...it is dance inspired fitness...but you don't need to know how to dance.  If you love music and you love to laugh and have fun...I think you should try it!

Happy to report that I challenged myself to walk a solid hour this a.m., and was thrilled to see my pedometer @ 7400 steps (3.7 miles) when I returned home just now.  I have to tell you all that with this time change, it's been very difficult for me to stay motivated and get out there, and without all of you and this thread, I know I would have been sitting for that hour.

I can't imagine doing Zumba, no less teaching it, through chemo!  Lisa, you are an inspiration!    Deanna

Susie, Glad you are "released" !!! (sounds like we've been released from prison!) lol. My skin turned the corner about day #5 after I was "released" from Rads. I agree to be careful with your skin until then... But I walked through it all. I was just careful, for part of it I had on a soft cotton T shirt, then my sport bra OVER that (so not to rub my poor skin!) Then a light shirt over that. ...

Vivre, good idea about the ipod and the hand weight during walk. I may try that!

Deanna, good for you! 7400 is a great way to start the day! (My pedometer has pooped out, it just keeps flashing this symbol in the lower right, maybe I need a new battery? I miss it! I liked seeing those steps "rack up".)

I have blocked my calendar for a walk later this afternoon. Cool  That is me iwth my sunglasses on taking a walk!!!

I think I am going to have to try this Zumba although I am not very good at dancing in general.  I drug both my husband and 13 year old daughter to kickboxing tonight.  Misery (Wink) loves company.  It was alot of fun.

Spring, I love the eliptical it is like walking on a cloud.

    Springtime,

Your hair pics are great.  Remind me again where to get the henna.  I don't have enough hair yet, but I think in about two weeks maybe I can give it a try.  How long (funny term) was your hair when you used the  henna.   Thanks for the info.

Caren, I got the Hennas at www.allstatebeauty.com  They were cheap and I am finding them fun to play with. I chose a range of light blonde to redder blonde, to dark blonde, to light brown colors. I am going from light to darker and see which I like best!!! My hair is now about an inch long (some seems longer, some shorter, but around that) and my last chemo was Nov 10, about 17 weeks ago. (I am waiting for more "bangs"!!)

PT, Wow! Good for you draging the whole family to Kickboxing!!!

Mumayan, we are all waiting to hear how the Zumba went????

It is getting a bit grayer and colder here, but thinking about a nice long walk over lunch.... I'll report back on what I do! Still need arms & abs! Maybe I will take a 3lb weight with me today, hmmmm....

    Spring (Beverly)
