    Hi!
    I was just a few weeks short of my 57th birthday when I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in April, 2003. Praise the Lord, my scans and tests all have come back clear to date, and I would sure like that trend to continue!!! I'm a quilter and I've sure got a lot of fabric that needs worked before I can go!! Should take at least 50 years!!!!!!! (only hoping)

    Dx Dec. 27th 2004 with DCIS and IDC in left breast at the age of 42. Had mast on Jan. 24th, 2005. Clean nodes so no rads or chemo. I remember thinking are you kidding I'm to young for this but after reading the ages I would say I am of the average age. Thank goodness for modern meds.

    I turned 45 a week after my biopsy - August 12, 2004 - happy birthday to me. IDC, 1 cm - had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation and now have found DCIS in same breast and going for mastectomy next month - somebody stop this ride, I want off!

    Hi i am amazed at all the different ages. it makes me realize sooo many women get breast cancer . i never thought about before i got bc. i think of you all on this website as family. maybe cause we have something so important in common. i am one of the older ones on here but with me wisdom did not come with age. you all have taught me so much. i just wanted to say thank you all.

    Hi I found a lump in August 03 after haveing mamogram and biopsy was told the left breast was evasive and the right breast was insitu. Had a bilateral masectomy 22 August 03 I was 38. Three weeks ago I had expanders put in, Ill be 40 next week (early birthday present).

    I was/am 43... with invasive lobular cancer.

    Why are so many of us in our 30's and 40's?

    Is it because we are finding our cancer sooner because of awareness and technology?

    Or, is this (breastcancer.org) population skewed younger because fewer women over 60 are internet savvy?

    Hmmm... just some thoughts.

    dxd in 12/03 @ age 47 with widespread DCIS found as calcifications on mammogram
    had a one side mast 10 days later (wonderful surgeon!) and
    they also found 2 small ILC tumors .1cm and .5cm (undetected by anything--mamm, u/s & mri)

    Jodelia ~ I would guess it's because of both reasons that you stated - earlier detection AND more women in their 30's, 40's and 50's tend to go to support groups on the Internet or log onto the computer.

    hi i agree with you savannah early detection and younger women do tend to go to support groups or log on to the internet. also alot of women my age and older are not that great with computers. i thought i would never learn. thank god i did..

    I was 33 years old at diagnosis back in May 2004. I was dx with Stage 2 grade 3 IDC. Had a single mastectomy, chemo and radiation.

    I am 43 yrs old and was diagnosed in Oct 2004 with high risk ILC, stage II. No family history and very few risk factors too.

    I was 46 when diagnosed (in October 04)I have finished chemo and going on to rads. (Stage II/2+ nodes) I felt a change (lump not there before) in April 04 and went in for a mammogram. They said it was nothing. "Come back in 6 months." For six months, everyday I would feel the lump. And I would worry. But, reminded myself that they said it was nothing. I went back after 6 mos. and it was something! My advice, follow your instincts. Don't put all of your trust in doctors. Know your body and insist on being listened to!

    Hi dear sisters, I was 63 when diagnosed. I am going to be 70 in June. YIKES!!!!

    The average age for diagnosis is 63. I think we have an awful lot of 30 & 40 year olds because a lot of 60 year olds and older don't use computers.

    Stage I - 1.8cm. Finished chemo, I have just started rads.

    I was dx'd 7/04 at age 58. Surgeon said I have the body of a much younger woman. She's got to be kidding! (Tho I do act childish sometimes:-)

    Hello,

    I was 38 and diagnosed in October 2002. I will be 41 in May. Stage 2A, 2 positive nodes (micromet to a third), Her2 positive, estrogen positive, grade 3, bloomberg 9over9. Very aggressive. Took 4 A/C 4 Taxotere, Tamoxifen and now on Aromasin.

    I was 41,idc, 1 pos. node. Mastectomy, 3 rounds of chemo, then got a pulmonary embolism from chemo and had to end chemo.

    Hi Shirlann you are right . there would be alot more ladies on here in there sixties and on if they were on computers . i always have thought the older you are the more of a chance of getting bc. god bless...

    HI, I found my lump three days before my 30th birthday in Dec of 2004. I was diagnosed Feb.05. They do not think I had it long because I had an exam in Sept of 04 and no lump, but who knows there could have been something there before the lump.

    I was diagnosed right before Christmas of 2004. I was 45 at the time and believe I should've been diagnosed 9 months earlier. Instead, I had a surgeon tell me I had aging breast tissue. If I had known then what I know now. And how on earth can any surgeon on this planet not biopsy a woman with a retracting nipple???

    I have lobular, which I know is less common. It never hurt. Didn't really show up on the mammo. On the sonogram, it was 'suspicious shadowing.' I have to wonder if lobular got 5 minutes in medical school that my FORMER surgeon missed. It's been said many times -- be vigilant if you suspect something isn't right. I wanted favorable news, and felt like I got it. Instead, I allowed 9 months to elapse when I could've been treated.

    I was 36yrs old when I was dx'd March '04 and turned 37 right in the middle of treatment. God willing I will prove them wrong and see 40 and beyond. We're having a party then for all of us as three neighbours turn 40 at the same time - Karaoke style!

    I was diagnosed at 68 with DCIS, lobular and an invasive little you know what that sent out feelers to the nodes. I am er/pr neg. HER2/neu 3 +++ and in treatment since March 31. I was wondering why so few of we slightly older folk were not on the boards but I think the computer thing may be right on.

    47,Had surgery Sept. 30, 2004 2.7cm,(idc) 2 nodes possive, mastectomy, now 48. I had 4 rounds of AC, and 4 rounds of taxol, no radiation. Now getting life back to some normalcy.

    I am 49, DX Dec 2004, mastectomy 2/9/05, Chemo - finished 4 rounds A/C, starting 12 rounds Taxol and 1 year of Herceptin, and 32 Rad treatments starting in Sept. Tumor 6cm, 4 of 16 nodes positive, ER+PR+, HER2+++. Had a pain in my left breast in Nov and felt a thickening (no lump), had Mammo and Ultrasound 12/1 - showed NOTHING - "come back in 6 months". Had 2 more mammograms, 2 more ultrasounds, and 1 MRI - showed 'suspicious areas' - "come back in 6 months". Went to a surgeon who did a fine needle aspiration and the path report came back malignant. My next step was calling Dana Farber in Boston, no more messing around with the 'locals'.
