5k training

I'm training for a 5k that will take place the end of April.  I am about two weeks into my training and my endurance is picking up...running 1 mile, walk-run for two.  I feel terrific physically as well as mentally.

I have noticed though that my appetite has increased and I have gained 3 to 4 pounds, I know muscle weighs more than fat and I can see that I am definately getting toned.  Does this sound about right or should I be cutting back on the carbs.  I was a one carb a day eater, now with training I have incresed it to 3 otherwise I won't have the energy to run.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Good for you, for having a training goal!

Are you getting enough protein? Having quality protein will keep you from getting big drops in your blood sugar.

Try keeping a food diary for three days, and see if you can total up your calories. You may need more than you thought.

    Darcy,

It sounds like you're right on track.  You know, I've run for YEARS, and I just recently figured out that I run better if I eat breakfast first (DUH).  So you just have to figure out what works best for you.  Good luck in your training!
