IDC and DCIS and significance of results...

I read my hospital notes while waiting for a cavitectomy (re-excision of lumpectomy) and noticed that not only did I have IDC grade 1 but DCIS intermediate grade (comedo and cribriform) and that's basically all it said. I didn't have time to read the rest of the report and I'm someone who usually just doesn't want to know all the details but this came as a shock as I thought I' only had IDC. I'm really confused. I'm due to have radiotherapy after surgery settles down. Should I be worried about the DCIS as I've had the lumpectomy, 6 rounds of chemo and will go on to have radiotherapy. From what I've read the presence of DCIS indicates a greater recurrence in the future or have I got it all wrong? I have to wait until next week to ask the doctors. Thanks in advance. Lynnette

Just briefly, the DCIS is of less significance then the IDC.  DCIS is more confined then the IDC.  High Grade DCIS is more likely to come back then other grades (which you don't have), but again the IDC is the more significant of the two.  That is at least my layman's understanding.
