So What Did You End Up Doing?
This is a new thread inspired by gsg's question............
What did you want to be when you grew up and what did you end up doing?
I can remember my lofty aspirations to grow up and be an elevator operator (what fun to ride in an elevator all day and announce floors) or a bus driver (thought you had to be so smart to remember the name of the next street the bus stopped on). '
After a couple different jobs, ended up being an electrologist for over 30 years and I've loved (and continue to) it.
Let's hear your story..............

I wanted to be a cowgirl (about age 6). I had little idea what they did. I was kind of confused because I was afraid of horses. I liked the Lone Ranger because he fought for the good. I even got a red cowgirl hat.
I ended up being a hospital pharmacist on the graveyard shift. And I'm still very skittish about horses.

I wanted to be a teacher, and believe me, I never would have made it, as I do much better with a room full of elderly, as opposed to a room full of kids! I am Program assistant for 2 facilities, one is an assisted living facility, and the other is an Alzheimer's unit.

i ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher growing up. i wanted the pencil box, the stapler, and all of those colorful folders. there are many stories about me teaching stuffed animals as soon as i could talk.
i have taught -- Elementary Art and in a private preschool for children with special needs: art & music........ i now travel and teach teachers about the significance of the arts to young children, to their development and to their building literacy skills thru song, movement and a multi-discipline approach to the Arts.
[WellWater, what a fun thread. I must admit, I have no idea what an eletrologist does??? Please fill in my empty head on that one.]

WHen I was younger, I wanted to be a beautician when I grew up. I did take Cosmotology during high school, but never finished.
I ended up being a software trainer and working in the Learning and Development department of a large company. I love my job. :-)

Faith - nice to see that you fulfilled your dreams....
Electrolysis is hair removal using electrical method. I have helped many women along the way and have made many lifelong friends in this field.
MissS - I had to get a Cosmetology license for my field of work since it fell into that department - but I'm sure the world of women are happy that I never became a hairdresser.
-
I wanted to be a pilot or a flight attendant. I ended up becomming a flight attendant (it was sooooo much easier than flight school, LOL) but I did not like it at all. Now I work in a law firm.

I wanted to be a farrier (horseshoer/blacksmith). I went to college first, and got a job there in the libraries (MSU), then I did go to farrier school and was self employed as a farrier for 10 years until my back gave out. Now I work at MSU again in the libraries, but am taking Nursing classes to become an RN.

I wanted to be a doctor. I never even came close to going to med school though. I ended up majoring in Organizational Management. Now I am an Internal Auditor.

Great topic!!!
I wanted to be an attorney. But, I grew up in the dark ages where college-educated women were teachers, nurses, secretaries, or housewives! In a bizarre twist of fate, I ended up with a great job where I had attorneys assigned to assist me and represent my agency in court--we were either collecting federal debt or being sued by someone...it was a terrific job! I'm retired now, and I love that, also!!!

Junie: I also grew up in that time of........"any young boy can grow up to be president and any of you young girls can be teachers, nurses, secretaries or housewives".....ugh. So glad things have changed and our young girls today CAN grow up to be anything they want!

I thought I replied, but no idea where it went..? When I was growing up, I went many times to our church camp, Camp Massanetta. Adored it. My long-term plan was to be a camper for as long as they'd let me, then become a counselor. Then I planned to marry a Presbyterian minister assigned to Massanetta, and finally to retire at Sunnyside, a "rest home" on the property. That didn't pan out, so I've done the next-best thing: I am an elementary school secretary who works each day with 550 "other" kids. I' m really happy with the way things turned out!

As a child I wanted to become an archaeoglist, and as a teenager I wanted to become a University Professor of Literature. However, I majored in business in college and ended up starting my own business, which liquidates the estates of the dearly departed. I have loved my work over the years as old stuff fascinates me, but have not been able to do much of it since last year when diagnosed with stage 4 bc. It takes alot of energy to prepare an entire house for dump runs, Goodwill drop-offs, and then the selling of the collectibles on ebay or craigslist or at an estate sale. I hope to someday be well enough to resume taking on new clients.

I first wanted to be a ballet dancer; I have perfect feet! Flat right across the toe tops. But, of course, I got too dizzy. Never got to the "toe shoes" part.....sigh.
Then I wanted to be a teacher, but I was so bright in school that the real teacher gave me part of the class to work with and they were so stupid that I got frustrated and knew I couldn't be a teacher.
I ended up in sales and love spending other people's money! LOL
I don't sell, I help people buy and that has made a huge difference in the way I interact with my clients. Doesn't matter what I sell, I have to be passionate about it. My two kids are in sales as well....

I grew up wanting to be a housewife and mother full time but husband left me for a younger women so it never happened. Didn't know what I wanted to do so went to a testing center to see what you would be good at and it was nursing. Became a nurse and enjoyed it, worked for the state with mentally handicap kids for 12 1/2 years and then as a prison nurse for the other 12 1/2 years and retired. I love being retired, getting to have time to make friends, really participate in church, help the community, keep the grandkids, learn to knit, and sleep in if I want too and finally have a wonderful husband after I got my kids raised.

I always loved with animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian.
Before I could start school I got married and had my daughter very quickly, so I never got to go to school. I worked as an animal control officer for 15 years and had my own petsitting business.
I am now an account manager for Anheuser-Busch.
