End of menopause?
Somewhere around the middle of my chemo, I stopped getting periods and in October my family doctor told me I was well into menopause after doing bloodwork. Well, lo and behold, last week, the day before my last Herceptin, almost a year to the day of my last period, guess what I got? I am 46 yrs old and I really thought I was too old for this to reverse itself - mostly I had heard that unless you were quite young i.e. under 40 at least, chances of it coming back were very slim.
I am wondering though, if that is the case for people who have estrogen receptive tumors and so are taking Tamoxifen - and those who are only HER2+ and taking herceptin might not be more likely to have it restart.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Age at chemo, 56, (and perimenopausal). Finished chemo in Feb 2007, you know what was back in May 2007 (@##$%). I wasn't declared to be post menopausal until September 2008 (at 58).
My onc just laughed when I complained about having my period; she said I had cast iron ovaries.

I just can't believe I'm going to have to go through all the hot flashes again!!!!!!! But I guess at least my bone density will be better than it would have been.

I am one of the lucky ones. Hot flashes don't run in my family. My mother didn't have them, her sister didn't have then and I and my two younger sisters haven't had any either.

My period had been trying to come back. I was done with Chemo in September, and cant remember when i had my last "real" period, but the last two months, i have had a kinda period, last month lasted a few hours, this month a few days, but very light. Anyone else? I am not on any kind of pills, just herceptin.

My periods stopped during chemo, but came back within about 2 months afterwards. Once I finished radiation and started the Tamoxifen, I had regular periods for a while, then they stopped for over 9 months (no, I wasn't pregnant). I had a horrific period right around the first of the year, but none since. I recently had my hormone levels checked and my onc said I'm still quite pre-menopausal, so will stay on the Tamoxifen for now.

Hi ladies... I had my last period about the time of my mastectomy (late july07) and began chemo a month later... it was 6 cycles of carboplatin and taxotere, with concurrent herceptin therapy for one year. i have not had a period since my first chemo treatment, and the hot flashes came fast and furious for more than a year. But now they've subsided and still no periods... woohoo!!! I have to say that this is the ONLY positive side effect i experienced. But i have heard of this happening to others.. hang tough my sister! Peace and healing to you!

Age at chemo 46. I had dose dense EC, radiation, Taxol and Herceptin for a year.
I didn't have a period for many months after chemo. Doc did a blood test and said I was done. But no, I keep having seven month breaks between periods then three or four months of having a period every three weeks or so. This has been going on for two years now. The first period after the months between is usually awful - but next ones are average to light.
I had horrible hot flashes that were helped for a while by acupuncture but it stopped working. I'm now on Effexor 75 mg per day and seldom have a hot flash. But I never know for sure if I'm going to have period or not.
