Chasing ailments
When do you stop chasing ailments and let cancer win? I fell like I have been in control until now. I feel like all I am doing is chasing this problem and then next one appears.
Stage 4- mets - lung, liver, spine, pelvic.hip area.

A hard question that no one but you can answer.
All off us Stage 4ers think about this question.
I think it takes courage to stop treatment. When quality of life is gone, when the treatments don't work and are just making you miserable. When there are more bad days and no good days...When you are too tired to continue...that it might be time.
Sometimes depression makes me ask this question. We fight so hard to stay alive.

Janis,
I know what you have been through lately and just reading your post, inspires me. Thank you!
I thought I was alone in keeping up this fight. Just when I thought I was in control, pew....cancer comes and controls me! Yuck!

Please read this article. A cure for metastatic Breast cancer and colon cancer was found to be 100%. Although the number of patients used was small, I find this to be remarkable. How many more people are we going to let suffer!! I wish I knew how to bring this to light. I suppose at this point all I can do is bring it to the attention of as many people as possible.
Please read article below. Dr. Nobuto Yamamoto also has articles published in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy journal. I was unsure if this information was false and so attempted to look up the articles myself at the University of Michigan Health Science Library, i found them.

Lori, that really is such a tough question yet an individual question, I know right now I have no answer for it. I would guess it comes down to a personal choice of when you feel you have had enough of the tx. No necessarily are they working or not. Sometimes your body tells you I just can't take this anymore. When my body hits that point is probably when I will say enough and call in hospice. But no one can tell me when that is.
I feel so bad you are in such a bad place right now. I really hope something kicks in well and works for you soon because I hate to see you so low. Take Care!!! ((((BIG HUGS)))) We all love you and care about you here so please hold onto that.

Thank you Luann- I need encouragement right now!

Sometimes it seems at our darkest moments, something cames in and starts working for us. I pray that this happens to you. We all do care.
-
Thank you for the encouragement. I am in a better mental place today! Bought some plants for outside panting. That always makes me smile!

Hi Ladies!! I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place as I'm a stage 3 aggressive growing breast cancer patient. I received some very encouraging words from my favorite entertainers the Osmonds when mentioning my diagnosis to the assistants. You can do whatever you feel is best for you, but their words to me were that the adversary is working through the cancer. God doesn't want us to have this!!! They also mentioned to use this time to draw close to the Lord. When we ask Him for help, he will come!!! My family and I know this because at 6 months of age I had meningitis. I beat it and I'm going to beat this!!! Thought I spread a bit of my positive attitude your way as you ladies need it!!!

I like your attitude Bethi1!

When it comes to answering this question I think I got a dry run last year. I had been on the same tx for over a year. I was weak & bald & in bed most of the time. I was getting a transfusion every other week most of last winter. My scans said tx was working, but to what end?? In retrospect I now see that my onc nurse (who is also a friend) had been gently encouraging me to take a break, but I guess it had to be my idea! Due to holiday scheduling issues I accepted that break in May. I started feeling better almost immediately & let the break run thru summer. In Aug my scans showed a small progression so I started xeloda. It has been a kinder tx for me. I look & feel better than I have in a long time!
I now know that when I have had enough I won't have any other option! Your body just knows & you are ready for whatever will come!!! I am glad that I got yet another reprieve, but when the time comes I will never say cancer wins. When I go I take the beast out with me!!!!!
HUGS all-be well & stay strong

I agree that when the time comes, there will be some indication that it's time to move on. Surely if we're still asking the question, and havng doubts, that time has not arrived? The thought of getting to this stage fills me with a cold dark fear, but I know that sooner or later I-and we-will reach it. As to cancer wnning-well it's such a strong enemy, in all likelihood it will do sooner or later. But this I don't think indicates any weakness on our part. If focus, determination, amd strength of character could overcome the "beast", then there would be little problem, as without exception, all stage 1V girls seem to have these qualities. But cancer is such a sneaky beast, that it's hard to stay ahead of it permanently for long.
I hope you have been able to regroup your strength, and feel more able to continue now (I've just noticed that tis is quite an old thread). Whatever decision you reach, I'm sure it'll be the right one for you-but as saint said, maybe even a short break from treatment would help you feel a whole lot better?

I decided to chance ailments and continue treatments. As for "fighting", no....just surviving!
-
Good for you! Surviving is just fine at the moment-hope that you get a good response to the treatments, and ailments are few.
-
--we are here to walk the walk with you-prayers that tx is effective AND kind!
HUGS-be well & stay strong
