I often read the success stories in another thread. I want to hear about ILC success stories. Are you one or do you know someone?  Whenever possible please post Date of DX, Grade, Tumor Size, Node Involvement, ER/PR, HER2, Age at DX..also what treatment you have done....I am hoping to keep this going for some time and be able to check it when I am out many years....THANKS

    Hello,

As you can see below, I was diagnosed in Nov 2006 with a LARGE tumor. Had mast, chemo and radiation. Just had a bone scan last week because of some lower back pain and all it showed was arthritis. 2 1/2 years out and so far, so good!

Judy--my mom had ILC, negative nodes--l;umpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen--is now a survivor of over 22 years without a recurrence.

Like Anne, I can only offer my mother as an example, and I don't know if her tumor was IDC, ILC, or something else. She did say that it was about the size of a walnut when she discovered it while dressing, at the age of 45--say around 3 cm. She was the first person in our family to have BC that I know of.

Since this was in 1947, most treatments known today were not available. She had an excisional biopsy, and had to wait for the results, because the tissue was sent off to a lab in a nearby city.  When the tumor was found to be malignant, she had a radical mastectomy, which was standard practice at the time, followed by radiation treatment.  As a result of extensive removal of lymph nodes, she developed lymphededma. And of course she had permanent weakness in her left arm, since some of her chest muscles were removed, as well as a large cavity where her pectorals and breast had been.

But at least this extreme treatment worked. She lived a long and rewarding life with no recurrence, dying at the age of 82.

I think I am a success story.  I had stage IIA ILC classical & pleomorphic cells in May, 2004.  They didn't grade it, but did say it had a high proliferation index.  I had a lumpectomy, radiation AC +T chemo and have been ok as far as I know since then.  The tumor was 2.3cm.   0/4nodes +  ER+, PR+  HER2-. I hope we are all success stories for many years.
