How can you tell if it's pleomorphic?

Is that something it would say on the path report?

(also, is there a thread for oncotype scores...I'm waiting for mine and curious on stats)

Yes, it would be on the path report. But a lot of labs don't specify ILC subtypes, so don't be surprised if your path report doesn't say what kind of ILC you have.

There is an Oncotype roll call over on the Chemo board:

Try cutting and pasting that into your browser.

Thanks, I looked at my path report and it says "infiltrating tumor type: lobular" and "lobular neoplasia type: LCIS, classic and focally pleomorphic types".  I'm confused, lol.

ok, so here's a clip from my path report (bad scan, hard to read, sorry).  Does it say that there was in situ as well?  I'm trying to figure this all out.

Yes, it does say LCIS. But remember, LCIS isn't an in situ cancer like DCIS is--it's just a marker for increased risk of bc. So I'd ask your onc what that means for increased risk of bc in the contralateral breast.

Your grading (Grade 2, 3A, 2N, 1MC) is the exact same grading as my pleomorphic ILC was. I don't know if that means that you have pleomorphic ILC or not, but since most classic ILC is grade 1, and you appear to have a mix of classic and pleomorphic LCIS, I suppose there is a good chance that your ILC is pleomorphic. All that would mean is that your ILC is more aggressive than classic ILC (I had one doc tell me it's about the equivalent of a grade 3 IDC).

I thought pleomorphic was related to the nuclear grade of the cancer.  I was diagnosed with mixed IDC and ILC with insitu DCIS and LCIS and ALH.   My tumor was grade 1 with low miotic count.  My DCIS was low nuclear grade.  I did have one positive lymph node that I think was ILC (just because all imaging tests didn't show it and it was 8 mm).   When I looked up pleomorphic it talks about nuclear grade so I am wondering if the nuclear grade would say pleomorphic or would be of higher grade.  Anyone know?

Liz, it's my understanding that pleomorphic refers to the shape of the cells, and that they're usually graded 2 or 3. My path report specifically stated that I had pleomorphic ILC, and the nuclear grade was just a number that was part of the overall grade. My tumor was graded a 2.
