    Hi Flalady,

I didn't have mets to the skin before surgery, but I did have a little rash that I realized after were cancer nodules. I think surgeon should have known that surgery would promote growth of these....

Today onc dr suggested Ixempra (with Avastin). Can you tell me more about this and your case...

     Thanks,

    Darling.

    Hi Flalady,

Would you mind also pm me the supplements you are familiar with.  My Mom has several that she is going to talk to her onc about at their first meeting on Friday.  I am just seeking some info from someone who might have used some of them.  She will be starting chemo soon.  Thank you.

Is Taxotere/Cytoxan the only chemo treatment that you have recieved? I have a choice between AC-T or TC. Not sure what to do

Darling,  I had a reoccurrance that my onc called local but changed it from stage II to stage IV since the tumor was pushing through the chest wall, large at 7x5 cm in the mediastinal area that surgery was out of the question.  This occurred 1 year and 1 month after mastectomy and chemo.  I undwent rads that finished in Oct 09 and the scans afterwards (didn't show before) showed subcutaneous nodules to abdpmen that were skin mets.  I'm now on the 4th cycle of Avastin and Abraxane and will "finish" mid march then get more scans to see where things are. The plan anyway was to put me on maintenance avastin every 2 weeks.

Not sure how the skin mets came about other than when they were doing the biopsy of the mass on my chest the dr. (radiologist, done in xray with local sedation and didn't hurt a bit) had to keep going in and getting new samples- about 5 different times. I always wonder if that's what spread it.

Pat, skin mets can show up wherever they want for whatever reason... not because biopsying let "bad" cells touch other places.  I have extensive skin mets, but where it first showed up was nowhere near either of my primary tumors or even my positive nodes.  I have also heard concern about areas that have been radiated or not... I have skin mets where I have been irradiated and also in places I have not... there seems to be no rhyme or reason, just a lot of mets.

Thanks Vicki!  What treatment are you on for it??   Once I started on the abraxane/avastin the nodules disappeared within the first week. But I understand they are buggers to come back.

That's great about the Abraxane/Avastin ~ a chemo buddy of mine w/ IBC just went thru a few mos of Abraxane for a recurrence & she responded beautifully, too... so I'm hoping that it will one day have great results for me, too, when I eventually need to try it.  Right now I'm on Gemzar, hoping to get a little more time out of it before needing to switch again.  I've been taking Turmeric & am convinced that helps w/ skin mets... so I'm sticking w/ it regardless of what chemo I'm on, too.
