I was dx one month ago. I am 37 and mom to two young boys. I had a lumpectomy  2 weeks ago and sentinal node biopsy. The tumor was measured at 1.8 cm...my nodes and margins were clear and I was put at a stage 1. I will meet w/ my oncologist for the first time tomorrow. I found out last Friday that I was a triple negative. Some posts say that being a triple neg is a good thing while others object. I hope my oncologist can empower me w/ up to date information. I am just worried now that triple neg is a more challenging dx and I am scared. My surgeon told me at my follow up that I was "cancer free" at this point and chemo and radiation would be my insurace policy. Obviously I am scared of reaccurance.

Also, I want to get a second opinion and have 3 places in mind: Dana Farber (Boston), Sloane Kettering (NYC)and Breast Link Center(CA). Any opinions?

Thanks for your feedback ladies!

    Hi Melissa,

I have 2 words for you: No Surrender! Well, one really....her 'name' on here is nosurrender. Her real name is Gina. She is the most positive Triple Negative patient on the planet!!!

There are 100's of us on here. I scared myself to death looking for stuff on the internet. Try not to do that. Negative stuff is posted way more frequently than positive stuff. (No pun intended!)

Search for Gina. She'll enlighten you and make you feel better!!

Hugs girl, hang in there. As so many have said: "it sucks but, it's doable."

    Sincerely,

    Traci

I am a five year survivor of triple neg.  I was diagnosed with triple neg in May 2003 at age 38.  I was stage 2 with a 2.7 cm tumor.  I too had young children at the time and I know it is very scary.

Triple negative means they don't have as many tools to fight the cancer with if it recurs.  It won't respond to hormone therapy.  However, your cancer was detected at a early stage and most women with your diagnosis will be just fine.  A second opinion is an excellent idea and I am sure any of the three you mentioned would be good.

     Hugs,

     Judy

    Hello Melissa,

I am going to Dana Farber and they are wonderful there - I am just beginning my road to treatment but would be happy to help you get hooked up there.
