Hi I am new to this board

edited June 2014 in IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma)

I was diagnosed breast cancer March 2008.  Had mast April 2008, done 6 rounds TAC, 25 radiation.  I am now waiting for another surgery, I have opted to have my ovaries and uterus removed.  I was diagnosed stage 3  IDC, my tumor was 3 1/2 inches, 17 of 23 nodes removed were cancerous( 6 of the nodes had also tumoured).  I am now almost 1 year into it and have found a lot of information in these boards have been extremely helpful.

    Wow, you've been through a lot and coming up on your one year anniversary.

    I'm pushing 7 years, also in March.  Welcome to the boards and hope we can be of help to you.

    jelly - Wow!!  seven years sounds so super!  Thank you for sticking around here to give us newbies a real sense of hope!  And, I be lovin' your name...mmmm!

    Susan, yes, I can go for a jelly donut right now but am too lazy to go to Dunkin Donuts!  I wish they had delivery service.Smile

    Wow 7 years that sure does give us newbies hope.  Don't you all find that once you are diagnosed you find that there all all sorts of people that you know, who had breast cancer.  I ran into this lady I know from work the other day and she was daignosed back in 1985.  So I realize there is a lot of hope for us because now the research is so much better than back then. 

    So cheers to us for making it this far and making it another 30+ years.

    Hi Lori! I'm coming up on my one-year cancerversary, too. The info on this site really gave me a boost when I needed it during every stage of my treatment. Now that I'm on "maintenance", it still is a touchstone for all the friendships I've made and to keep abreast of the newest developments in treatment.

    Hi Lori....it sounds like you have been through and still going through a lot!  You all sound so strong and everything I have read so far is providing me with inspiration, but I have to admit that I am quite anxious about this journey I'm about to embark on.  I am new to this board and was just diagnosed on Feb. 5/09 with both IDC Stage 1, no special type and DCIS, grade 3.  Tomorrow I am scheduled for the nuclear dye injection and the following day is the lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy.  While I'm trying to remain both strong and positive, I am extremely scared inside.....life truly does change just like that!!  Any words of advice??

    Hi Beach

    The advice that I was given when I was doing all the exams......Think of them as baseline test, nothing there just something to compare future tests to.  It also helps to keep positive.  I have always been an upbeat person and there is no way I was going to let this take me down.  I found the nuclear dye did not hurt, just the little poinprick of the needle.  I had a mastecomy the following day and I was expecting a lot of pain but there was hardly any, all I took was a few T3s. When I went through all this I was expecting alot worse and found that the things I went through were really not as bad as I had anticipated. I will be thinking of you.  And sending positive vibes during you injection and during your surgery.

    Remember to breathe

    Take it one day at a time

    Don't try to be strong- just do what you need to do - to get thru

    You CAN do this, you will find that you are so much stronger than you knew

    Take gentle care of yourself

    Have faith, it will all work out in the end. The right people and things also seem to show up at the right time.

    Its ok to be scared, its ok to ask for help, its ok to cry

    Know you are not alone. There are amazing women here to help....come and listen, ask questions, cry, rant, rave, share....whatever.

    Lori and EWB,

    Thanks for both of your responses.  It helps to talk with people who understand what I'm going through.  Even though I have an extremely supportive group around me, it's amazing how alone you still can feel.  I can't get over the strength you both have......it gives me inspiration and strength to try to be strong and positive over the next few days, weeks, months.......

    Thanks again for the words of wisdom and support!!
