First of all , thank you all for your replys on My Mom is dying a hard death thread.

My sweet Mom flew to Heaven on the early morning of Feb. 6th after a long hard battle with mets ;first to lungs 4 years ago, then recent to bones, and lungs again. We also think it went to brain due to her bizarre behavior the last few weeks of her life.

She was in hospice care at home and I was there most of the time from Jan. 6th , on.

Her behavior got out of control and hospice sent her to a nursing home on Jan. 3rd. It was just to much for us at home. It was the lowest day of my life. My Mom had allways told me "Dont ever send me to a nursing home" ! Well, I had spent till 3 am the previous night with her trying to keep her from hurting herself, while she was having one of her crazed attacks. I could also not get the meds into her. She spit them out. A hopsice nurse had showed me the day before how to give her a Haldol shot but I had never given anyone a shot before and after wrestling with her for a couple hours, I was to shaky and nervous to do it. This being 1:30 am and the hospice nurse told me she would walk me thru it on the phone. I was crying and shaking. Anyways, I never managed the shot but did finally manage to get her to take enough meds by mouth at about 2;30 am to calm her down. I cried the rest of the night.

Next day (feb. 3) , my mom went into a nursing home for what hospice calls a 5 day family respite. They were going to try to control her attacks with drugs. She passed away on Feb. 6th.

The reason I say My Mom flew to heaven is because 30 hours before she died I had an amazing expperrience with her. First she started to call out my Dads name ( Walt) He passed away 20 years ago. She said, Walt , Walt , come and get me , I am ready, Then she started to pray. At this time her face became peaceful, young, and smiling.  An aide and I prayed with her awhile and then walked down the halls with her to the lobby. This was at midnight. She looked so young and had like an aura around her. It was amazing. She also was pointing up and saying stuff like ; Open the door! I want to go upstairs! The colors are beautiful!

Wow, I must say that this experrience is what has helped me the most to get thru a long and dificult time and to get thru the loss of my Mother. Allthough I miss her soooo much and will forever miss her , I realy feal like she went to a wonderful, and beautiful place.

sierrasusieq, i am so sorry for the loss of your mother. What an amazing peacefulness your mother experienced right before she passed. My condolences to you and your family.  I have added your mother to the List of Angels in Commemorating Loved Ones, in the family and friends section.

I would like you to remember that she died peacefully in a nursing home.  If you had followed her wishes and kept her at home, she would have died fighting phantoms and missing the relief her medication gave her.  Not to mention, that wonderful walk with her - what a memory to have and hold in your heart.

sierrasusieq, the List of Angels is in the Commemorating Loved Ones forum, and it is a pinned topic so it is at the top of the list in that forum.  I added your mother's full name to her listing.  I think that you seemed to have found the forum by now because i saw that you had just posted the info in Commemorating Loved Ones. Thanks Susie.  I know how hard it is to lose a parent.

    Sierrasusieq,

Your mother and family have been in my thoughts these past few weeks.  I am glad to hear that she was moved to the nursing home where she was cared for so all you had to do was spend time with your mom.  Thank you for sharing such a private moment, a sweet memory to hold in your heart. Know that she is now at peace, no demons or pain or fight, just sweet peace.

    Sierra,

I am soooo sorry for your loss.  I am glad you and your mom were able to find peace near the end, I cannot even begin to imagine what it was like for you at home.  I have heard stories of people who are ready to cross-over, seeing and talking to loved ones that have passed. Your experience helps me believe, thank you for sharing and God Bless.

I have lost one person who I loved very dearly, and that was my Granny, and I know that over time, the grief subsides and it does get easier. I know that I will never forget. I know that I will always wish for her and miss her. I also know that I will always feel her presence and that I will always feel her love, because my Granny is never too far away. I know that you will find peace as well, it just takes time. God Bless

    Sierra,

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother here on Earth. I understand what you are going though. My father died almost 3 years ago and I so I have been caring for my mother for almost 3 years. She is receiving Hospice at home now. I will share with you a good author, George Anderson. He helped me to learn what you experienced. The "visitations", from your father are so true. He has very good books. People we love and who have passed on are waiting for us to cross over. So it is wonderful. I am so happy that you were given that important gift, to witness your lovely mother in between worlds. Your description was beautiful.

     God Bless you!

I am so sorry for your loss.  Thank you for sharing this amazing story.  Please be at peace with yourself about the nursing home guilt.  I am sure when your mother stated she never wanted to be put in a nursing home - she never imagined the circumstances it would be under.
