New member IDC multifocal 5/12 lymph nodes
I was diagnosed on Jan 16 and I've already had a mastectomy and lymph nodes removed. My surgery was Feb 5. I ended up with internal bleeding and had a second surgery that night. Since my cancer was multifocal and there was lymph node involvement, they wanted to move quickly. It was pretty scary but I am glad the surgery is over. I am looking forward to healing from this surgery and to getting the drains removed. I thought I would be very upset when I saw myself after the surgery but it ended up not being a very big deal. I will undergo reconstrucion. I am not sure yet of the process now but I am meeting my Oncologist on Feb 23. Hopefully I'll have some more answers then. I am sad to have to be a part of a group like this but I am hoping it will help me and in turn I can help others. I have received overwhelming support from family and friends. I am 43 yrs old with 3 children ages 12,10 & 7. Thank you for having a place for me to write my fears, concerns. and questions. I hope I can help some others as well.

Welcome gymmom, to the club that no one wanted to join. I'm 36 (dx at 35) with 3 kids, 12, 8, and 6, so I'm in the trenches with ya!
This board has been an absolute life saver for me. I've "met" many women who have helped me, encouraged me, taught me, indulged me, and sometimes gave me a kick in the pants when I needed one! The things I've learned here would never have come out at my dr appts, so take advantage of the wealth of information and experience all these sisters have.
BTW, I had my second mast on Feb 2 with a tissue expander (TE) placed. Pretty freaky looking, but this whole journey has been freaky, KWIM? We can heal together!
Best wishes!

Wow! What a quick post. I guess I have to learn the lingo. I don't know what KWIM is. I think I saw somewhere that tells you what letters mean. Do you know where I find it? (LOL, this one I do know). I have a tissue expander in place as well and I think my plastic surgeon will do something with it next week. I am not sure yet. There is still so much to learn even though I have been overwhelmed with information. Thanks for your best wishes!

KWIM: "know what I mean" (this obviously isn't exclusive to breast cancer patients!)
I know there was a thread about abbreviations, but can't remember where it was. Don't worry, you'll learn!
Yep, I posted so quickly b/c my kids are watching School House Rocks for the 2nd time in a row, so they're happily occupied. Plus, they're learning the "I'm Just a Bill" song, so that makes me happy.
