You are all invited to participlate in a get-together in Florida for a few days of fun and sunshine in November 2009. The tentative dates for this get-together are Nov. 14 through Nov. 18/19. I will be celebrating my 50th birthday on Nov 17 and of course, plan to have a big party! I can think of no nicer way of celebrating than with you, my dear bc sisters.
Please let me know if you would like to attend, so that I can get preliminary numbers in order to get quotes from hotels. I expect most would like to have a hotel directly on the beach.:)

Hi all,
I spent today checking out hotels and resorts etc. and have found what I think is a perfect condo-resort for our get-together.
Please check it out at: www.barefootbeachresort.com
These are really beautiful condos with either 1 or two bedrooms. Located on Indian Shores (about 15 miles south of where I live), the resort has the Intracoastal Waterway at the back of the property and the beach is just across the street.
What's more, they have offered me a fantastic price.
2 bedroom condo price is $118.72 per night (including tax). The 2-bed condo has a queen-sized bed in one bedroom and double bed in the other, plus a queen-size pull-out sleeper couch in the living room. The condo is very spacious (about 1000 sq. ft) and is fully equipped with kitchen and anything you are likely to need.
1 bedroom condo price is $ 96.32 per night (again includes tax). This has a queen bed and again, a queen-size pull-out sleeper couch in the living room.
In addition, the resort has a club house that they would allow us to use free of charge for my birthday party. BBQ grills are available and the heated pool is lovely. Dock available at the back of the property, for fishing, or if we want to rent a boat one day. The manager told me they often have dolphins and manatees visit the area.
A couple of the units are wheelchair accessible, for those who may need it.
I also checked out some hotels on Clearwater Beach. The best value was the Best Western Beach Resort. Room prices for our group would be approx. $ 115 per night (2 queen beds) to $147 per night (beachfront room). This is a well run hotel. However, The Ironman Triathlon will be taking place at Clearwater Beach at the same time as we would be there, and to be very honest, it will be crazy there at that time , and as such, I think we probably would be better to give Clearwater Beach a miss- as far as staying there goes, at least.
I honestly think the condo resort is the very best value for money that we can get and the property is really beautiful. Indian Shores Beach is also a lot less crowded than Clearwater Beach, And there is a trolley bus that will take us up and down the coast to various places of interest/fun, if we want it.There are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity too - so no worries about where to eat.
Please let me know if you are interested in this so that I can make arrangements with the resort accordingly and get the booking info to you all.
Thanks
Choca

We have decided to go with the condo resort, as it is the best value for money. The dates are Nov. 13 through Nov. 18 - but of course, if you want to come or leave earlier, or later for that matter, that is cool too.
Just please plan on being there on Sat. Nov 14, as I will be having my birthday party then. Brought it forward so that anyone who can only come for the weekend can also attend.
Please let me know by email or pm if you are intending to come.
Hugs

choca,
Just saw this post - I would love to come, and will let you know soon. We are planning a sailboat trip in November - from Melbourne, through the canals and Lake Okeechobee to the Gulf and then up to the Tampa Bay area - might be able to get to Indian Shores by the big day!!
Sounds great!
Hugs,
Karen in Kissimmee

I posted on the Moffitt thread that I fell and broke my ankle last week. If we are still able to take our boat trip, I'll do my best to come for your special day. I'll know more the closer it gets.
Hugs,
Karen
-
kdeit,
I live in Kissimmee too! On E Lake Toho.
-
Hi lbrewer,
I'm on the other side of Kissimmee - not far from The Loop. When was your surgery? I hope you're doing well.
I'm team leader for a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Team (Friends in Pink Helping Friends) - raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Here's a link to my page, if you'd like to join the team, just let me know. This is our second year - hoping to do as well or better than last year.
Hugs,
Karen

Karen, so sorry to hear about your ankle ! Wishing you a speedy recovery! The Moffitt conference wasn't as good this year as it has been in past years, so you really didn't miss that much.
I am doing the Strides walk over here in Pinellas on the 17th Oct.
I am now in full swing, planning my bday party. Lots of people coming ! Didn't realize I knew that many people LOL.
Hope your ankle heals well and you can make it too.
Hugs

I was going to walk but I have my nipple reconstruction scheduled for the 20th. They are doing a skin graft from my thigh. Not sure i'll feel like walking!

Choca
What do you want for a gift.... I cant go to a birthday party without something for the party girl!
-
No gifts PLEASE. You are giving me the greatest gift of all by being here to help me celebrate !
-
Choca - I'm still not sure about our trip - can I let you know at the last minute? We would stay in a marina as close to your home as possible. I'm still in the air cast but hope to get the all clear at my next ortho visit on Nov 2nd. Moffitt sent me a package of conference materials - came in the mail a couple of days ago. The little deep pink bag is cute, but sure wouldn't hold much, LOL. I'm sorry it wasn't as good as in the past. Hope you have cool weather for your walk this weekend - it's been awfully hot here.
lbrewer - if you're not able to walk, maybe you could still come and go to brunch with my team afterward? We went to Julie's Waterfront at 4201 S. Orange Avenue, Orlando. Let me know a nd I can PM you with my cell #.
Hugs,
Karen

I'd join you guys but I am doing a Pink Tie Friends event that weekend. Sorry!!! I'm in Port St. Lucie, on the east side of the big lake. Wish everyone has a great time!
-
The celebration sounds great! I live in Land O Lakes, not too far from Indian Rocks. I am going to plan on coming to the party on the 17th. I am still in active treatment so as long as I am feeling well, I will be there. What a great idea!
