I aced my MUGA test!

I had my first MUGA test this morning, to provide the baseline before chemo begins in 2 days.  Cancer is NOT in my family and I'm not supposed to have BC, you see, but heart problems ARE in my family.  So I was a tad nervous about it.  BUT I aced it--for a 60-yr old with my family history anyway!  I read online that normal is 50-80 with an avg of 60.  I got 75% !!  I made her recheck it twice, then gave the technician a big hug I was just so happy.  I was hoping for a mere 60!  I'll try to be more lady-like and sedate for my next test in there.  Just couldn't help myself this morning.

WAY TO GO DENALI!   Hope you didn't stay up too late cramming for it. Cool

I'll be sure to tell my neighbor, she's just starting H and is really worried about the heart thing.  (I never had any issues, but I've been a life-long swimmer and have good family history w/heart.)

YEAH!!  I am so happy for you.

Why be lady-like and sedate?  Every little victory should be celebrated.

This is one of the rules I lived by when I was going through chemo (finished  29 Sep 08) and radiation (finished 22 Dec 08).  Once a day you have to laugh (I mean a BIG belly laugh) and do somthing totally silly (just don't get arrested) Wink

BFidelis:  I swear it felt just like a acing a test in college.  Tell your neighbor that I read somewhere to be sure and be hydrated when you take the test, so drink plenty of water!  I had to use the restroom right up until they laid me under the machine!  But maybe that helped.

Sunshine:  I LOVE your rules!  I'm recording comedy shows for chemo--it's supposed to help your white blood cells go up.  I'm a red hatter so I know a lot about silliness.  Haven't had to be bailed out yet though.  I'm sure that technician smiles every time she remembers the crazy woman she tested this morning.  oh well.

Great news! I aced my second MUGA after 3 TCH treatments - 65 which was the same score I had on my baseline.

Yay ladies! I've done 3 now, and the last one actually rose a point to 75%. Are we a brilliant group or what??? One time I was waiting for the Herceptin and my onc nurse couldn't find my MUGA score, so she couldn't begin. I was beginning to get nervous, but she finally tracked it down and yelled the score across the chemo room - I felt like I was at the top of the class!

Seriously, we've all had some BAD news or we wouldn't be here, so let's celebrate every piece of good news we get.

Any score that's within 10 points of the previous is considered normal variation. You can get 2 different scores on the same day even. As I recall mine went: 71, 66, 62, 73, and 77. That 62 had me worried but both the Onc and the MUGA technologist assured me it was within normal variation limits.

75 is awesome for a first score.

I think mine has increased as I have maintained a cardio exercise program for about 15 months straight ... straight through chemo, surger, rads, and Herceptin.
