Tough start to the day Tina!

I saw the neatest shoes online the other day- Orange pumps, I may have to order them...never ordered shoes thru internet w/o knowing they fit but I think I have to have them.  I think I am developing an obsession with shoes...my dh is also out of town for the week :D

Are your ears still ringing, Tina? Running amuk, eh. Sounds like fun.

I went shopping yesterday and bought a new pair of really cute yoga pants (black with gray and white band at top) at TJMaxx and a little burgandy Tshirt with a really vibrantly colored peace sign on it - I think I spent $30.00 total.

EWB (what is your name Kiss) - on which website did you see the orange pumps?  If it's a brand I know, I will order online, but with an unfamiliar brand, I like to walk around the store a bit to see if the shoe is comfortable.

Woke at 4:00am today, couldn't get back to sleep, got up and proceeded to clean out my bottom drawer in the bathroom, defuzz my face with Nair and do squats. All this before my shower - very industrious morning.

    Raye-

I was browsing both Bluefly and (believe it or not) Sears yeaterday. I am trying to update wardrobe (with help from dh, dd and wonderful dd friends 17-18 yrs with very good style sense!)Lost some weight, no lonnger working, have the time to go looking, if I have the energy I try on. slowly but surely its working.

I am pretty sure it was Sears, there were actually a number of shoes I saw that I liked- big sales. Variety that I have never seen at Sears in store.  The brand is one I have another pr from and really like but because it is different style I an not sure of fit/size and comfort.

You have had a very productive day! Nap time Wink

Big news, girls, at least for me.  The economy is taking its toll on magazines.  Last year House and Garden closed down and now the latest belly-ups are:  Country Home, Home, O at Home, Cottage Living, Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion.  Wow!  I am going to be saving serious money on my magazine addiction.  Still, it's a sad thing.  I wonder how the fashion mags are faring.  Anyone know?  I was thinking of getting a subscription to InStyle but I am afaid it will go tits-up, too.

I love this dress.  Where would I wear it?  I'm thinking capri leggings, not full length.  Link won't work.  Go to athleta.com  Look up  Madeira Skimp.

Elaine! Sears sometimes does have some cute stuff - so I do believe it. I'd go try them on if I were you. It's a pain in the arse to send something back.

Economy is taking it's toll on so many things. Scary times. Some Macy's, Ann Taylor's, Rite Aid and sadly yes, magazines. Not sure about the fashion mags with the exception of Cosmo, which is going bye bye, although tit's up is a quite appropriate where that one is concerned. Found an old copy under my bed (these things under my bed - How Not to Look Old and now a Cosmo...) and tried to read it, oh geez, lean in a date, look at your date, whisper in his ear...blah blah. Teenage stuff. I've been so antcy lately. I am an AVID reader and I couldn't even concentrate on a book, hence my "reading" the Cosmo and early am drawer organization.

Wait. Tina, I totally missed that dress part. What dress? Is there a link?

I am sorry, Tina. Altheta. That is the link I posted last week with cute dresses.

I LOVE the dress. I would wear with low healed tall boots (tights optional); I would go bare legged.

OH Wait, I just looked at it on a model, it is very short. Change that to thick leggings and boots.

omg-- I just spent 30 minutes writing the longest post and I just lost it!!!!!

Okay, well I just got my internet and phone back after almost 2 days without it. And I have no patience to re type my whole treadmill story.

And I typed three paragraphs about shoes and the grammy's.... I hate when that happens.

Heheheheheehhehe, Beth, you have to wonder where it "ended up". I can see it on some porno site somewhere where all the guys are reading it and waiting for the punch line!

I've lost some too and hate that. I know they're just trashed, but more funny the other way.

    Here's a philosophical fashion question.

Why, if low rider jeans/pants cut you across one of the widest parts of your body, are they supposed to be so flattering and fashionable?  This doesn't make sense to me.  Who is making the rules?

Jeans that sit ultra low on the waist give the illusion of a long lean torso.

Also, if you wear yoga pants that are fitted in the rear, the wider the panel (that folds over) or just the wider the waistband, the smaller your ass looks....

    Ditto on both accounts.

Well, for my arse, we're gonna need a REALLY wide waistband for that illusion to work.

ROFL.  MAO.  Almost.  No such luck.

Well, if you already have a long, lean torso (mine at 5'2" is longer than my 5'10" friend's torso and I wear long torso swim suits) is there any benefit?  My arse is, as mentioned, the most ample part of me.

I need a long rise in pants because of my long torso.  Or they Yell bind me wicked.

Now, the part about the fold-over waist is interesting.  I do have one pair of yoga pants with a waist like that but it keeps popping back up and is wayyyyy too far out from my body at waistline.  I hardly ever wear them for that reason.

So, what's the fashion advice for me?

Beth, honey, are you not going to fill us in on your treadmill adventures?

I won't retype my first experience with my treadmill, cause it will take forever, but I am happily falling into a groove, and loving every minute of it. Although I definitely will need new sneakers in the very near future. Something that has a lot of shock resistance, b/c I can actually RUN- which is a new phenomenon-- the big girl can run. Not for very long, and not terribly fast, but I can run, even on an incline.

Hopefully Lady Footlocker will have something cute. I have a $50 gift card for Simon malls, so hopefully I won't end up spending much.

Abba, I think InStyle is safe because it covers so many topics~~~though it seems to be getting thinner, too. I am loving how the mags are telling us how to shop our closets~~~bring out all those old Dolce & Gabbanas, take all the old Chanel bags off the shelf, dust off your old Gucci shoes......and pair them with some sparkling new Tory Burch dresses and Dries Van Noten jackets and Marc Jacobs flats.Embarassed

Quit talking about low rider pants sitting low on the hip line to make the torso look longer, on me the low rider/hip hugger pants actually sit where the waistband should sit at my normal waist. normal waisted pants actually come up as high waisted pants. I actually like getting them because they fit me perfectly and I even get the petite proportioned pants (4ft 10in tall and proud of it).

I gave up magazines. I did have a subscription to McCalls Quick Quilts magazine but when they raised the subscription from 20 a year to 30, it wasn't worth the extra money for me. If I see one in the store that I find interesting, I get just that one not a whole year's worth.

Way to go Beth! Running, that is awesome. I wear New Balance running shoes. The style I buy has a nice arch support, but the shoes are light enough as not to weigh the runner down.

Sheila - Yes. I used to have subscriptions for magazines (mostly decorating/design mags, i.e.,  Metropolitan Home, Veranda) and would run out of space to store all of them and then felt bad about throwing them away, so now I do the same, just buy an issue if I find it interesting. Now, I I'll buy the next InStyle that comes out -  Sandra Bullock is on the cover. She is one of my favorites.

Movie/fashion note:  Memoirs of a Geisha.  Wow.  I watched it last night and was just blown away by the beauty, the colors, the dress fabrics, the interiors.  Although I had read the book several years ago and loved it, I hadn't seen the movie.  If you have not seen it either, rent it or borrow it from your library.  I think you will love it at least visually.  It was so gorgeous (and the ending so poignant) that I was sobbing for sheer joy.

Of course, I had had a couple of glasses of wine to soften me up. Wink

Sheila, you are such a peanut!  I would love to walk with you and feel tall for a change. LOL

Daffodil, I have to sit back and wonder about all these articles.  In one, they tell you to haul out stuff to wear that hasn't been worn in years (shoes included).  In others, they tell you to throw out or donate anything you haven't worn in two years.  Well, they should make up their minds in how to run our lives, don't you think???  Sigh, sure the old Tory Burch and Marc Jacobs.  Try the old LL Bean and Lands End.  And, going back to How Not to Look Old, she classifies labels like Tory Burch as moderate lines, not expensive.  Wow.  You have to move up to Chanel to be high-falutin'.

All that being said, I am going back to the well for fashion advice and have req. the Mizrahi and Kelly books through ILL.  Hope springs eternal................

    Go, Beth!!!

Tina, my niece and nephews all looked forward to getting taller than Aunt Sheila as well as all the children at church. They love to measure up to me and say 'I'm almost as tall as you'. My great nephews are just 3yrs and 18 months old, not old enough to measure up to aunt Sheila. And my body type does somewhat resemble a peanut, not much shape between bust and hips (no waist line). But I did marry a man who is 6ft 2 in tall. My mil calls us mutt and jeff. He also likes to make short jokes, 'shouldn't you be in a booster seat for children under 4 ft 11 in. and ride in the back seat of the car to avoid the air bags?'

Tina, I also love Memoirs of a Gesha. I have watched it several times and even liked watching the behind the scenes of the ladies preparing for the part as well as the designers working on the intricate gowns.

Hi, girls, a quick update:  I sustained a concussion from that darn fall, so I'm really not feeling like myself.  Really tired, can't concentrate, headachey, irritable, dizzy -- sort of like cancer brain only worse, if you can imagine.  Going to bed.  Just passed my CPR certification at work - don't know how I passed, except that I've been certified for 15 years or so.  Now my brain is shot.

    Love you all,

    Kathi

Girls, I posted my baby and "yut" pics over on Makeup if you want to check out the old, old Tina.

    Have a great weekend.

Okay, I can't resist sending you over to the Home Dec thread to see my living room corner with some of my pottery.  Hey, that's Fashion, too!

Also wanted to share one of my favorite fashion and home dec sites from Denmark.  Although I love the stuff, I don't know if I have enough nerve to wear any of it.  It's just so colorful and folkloric, kind of fantasyland.

Listen, I never got to say LOL to everyone for admitting to your individual china jones.  Oh, god.  I haven't done anything about that Versace china yet.  My birthday is coming up in April, though......

I also have a jones for a fabric called Tencel.  Oh.  My.  God.  I love this stuff.  Just bought two long, lovely skirts, one black, one chocolate, one winter white shirt and one celery green shirt marked down at a local boutique.  Cheaper than usual, but still not exactly bargain basement.  But I consider this investment shopping.  If you don't own something made of Tencel yet, you need to go shopping.  It's a natural fiber made of extruded tree pulp (I know, sounds weird, but hey, that's how they make paper) and it's like a cross between silk and combed cotton, and takes dye like a dream in that shaded way that certain silks do.  LOVE IT.
