Fires in Australia
I know there are a lot of Aussies who take part in the forums and I just wanted to extend our thoughts and prayers to them. There seems to be some terrorists starting devasting fires down under, causing much death and destruction. I hope others will join me in letting them know that their sisters are thinking of them.

Thanks vivre....I am in Victoria where the fires are. Its really terrible. The death toll is rising every day.Ppl haven't been able to go back to their burnt out houses as the authorities are still going through the burnt out ones looking for bodies and whole towns have been roped off as crime scenes.
Truely heartbreaking as a lot DO seem to have been deliberately lit.
I was surprised in chat yesterday that a lot of the girls had heard about it.Very comforting to read your post.

Vivre, thanks for starting this thread. I saw this on the news last night and wondered about our Australian sisters -- Jezza in particular.
Jezza, I'm so glad to hear you're all right -- continued prayers for you and all in your vicinity.

I thank you, too. Jezza, keep a hopeful heart and know that many prayers are for the safety of the survivors.

Ooh, really glad to find this thread. I've been praying for our Aussie Sisters, and all those whose lives have been touched by this awful time. I live in Arizona, where we too have our fire season, so I'm familiar with that terror and helplessness. We too have had vandals set our fires, one an out-of-work fire-fighter, of all things.
Jezza, we're hearing not only the tragic stories from Victoria, but the triumphs too: the mother and her two children who survived the blaze by hiding out in a wombat hole, and so many others. I'm cheering for you all, praying for cooler temperatures and no more wind, and hundreds more happy endings.
Be well!

Hey..I don't often post here but I browse a LOT!
Its wonderful to read these posts from sisters on the other side of the world.
Tragic events like this do bring people together.
I live in country Victoria , Australia thankfully not near these fires but with more hot weather predicted this weekend we are on full alert.
Thanks vivre, Binney. iodine and Anne for your concern.

For our Aussie sisters, (and brothers too)
Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers while these horrible fires rage. May some good rains come and douse them well. I will keep all in my prayers for your health and safety.

I am also in melbourne....... your thoughts & prayers just brought MORE TEARS to my eyes.
We are now being told the lives lost may reach 300.
My dad works in community services in the area, mainly in aged and disability care
and I can see the heartache on his face..... just shattering, so so so many people effected.
xxx thanks

Yowyow-your words brought tears to my eyes, when I think about how horrible a death for those poor people caught in the fires. My son is a fireman, so I worry about this a lot. I saw a man on the news saying whole families that he knew were lost. The whole scenerio is so frightening.
Every American should remember how Austrailia stood with us after Sept 11th. Austrailia has suffered the effects of terrorism just as we have and have been committed to fight against it. Let us hope that that the find the criminals who did this and that they are able to stop any copycats. As binney says we must all pray for rain! Our hearts are with you all.

I started hearing about the fires only yesterday. This is awful. My dad has often thought that terrorists would be starting fires every year to devastate our land and resources. I am not surprised that this is a possible terriorist activity.
Our prayers are with you that this be stopped quickly and the perpetrators caught.

Our dearest friend Paula - one of my Rocktober sisters lives in Sydney - It must seem like hell on earth there... thoughts are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you!!!!!!! Please stay safe.

Aren't her parents in Melbourne??

My sil is in Melbourne... so I hope that is away from the fires. She is to return to Canada in June and I would hate to have anything happen to her so close to leaving. My heart goes out to all the Aussies.... hope you stay safe and then rebuild good from the ashes.

I am in Melbourne, Aust. and it is away from the fires.
Some are still raging out of control in the bush....they are worried that two big ones are going to meet up and become one super fire.
Lots more tragic stories coming out.
On our hottest days last weekend, the native animals were very stressed, One lady tried to give a stressed koala a drink but he just climbed into the dish....aww
Was trying to post that pic..didn't work!
-
What would I do without my DS...he helped me post these!!!

Jezza, thanks for sharing those pics. Poor little thing. Those Koalas are so adorable. Gee I did not even think about how many animals this could effect. At least they have that keen sense of smell, so they know which way to run, not like us humans. Maybe you will lose some of those nasty snakes.
We get a lot of tornados here and I know how devastating that damage is, but with a fire, it must be so horrible. At least we can run to a basement during a tornado. Where do you run from a fire? Still praying for rain for you all! We are going to have flooding today. Sure wish I could send you some. Life is not fair.

Add my thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the fires.
Talk about Hell on earth - it is unimaginable the magnitude of the inferno. If this is the work of arsonists, I hope they get an eye for an eye. They don't deserve anything less!
