Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Since everyone is speaking about hair, my hair on my head is only about 1 inch but the hair on my arms and legs is twice as long, starting to look like I belong to the monkey family.
Rover so glad to hear that your pup does not have cancer hope it will be fine, just love dogs.
Good luck chocolate with you chemo on Thursday I am sure it will be fine.
Finally got my 2 new bras and prostheses and they are just killing me they are so uncomfortable and they were fitted and everything was looking forward to getting them but I am starting to think maybe I should consider reconstruction or have the other boob removed then I don't have to wear anything.
Anyway have to go and hope you all have a good night

Hey Junies......thought I'd check in.......my hot flashes seem to have almost disappeared........that and funny feeling I had on my left side about a week ago......makes me think Aunt flow may be coming for a visit.....not sure how I feel about that......but we'll wait and see..........I have been on antibiotics for 3 weeks and my stomach is a mess with them.......but the infection looks to be gone......the redness anyway......now I am just dealing with this damn seroma.......24 hour compression is the treatment......so that has me ready to climb the walls........but ps did give me a fill on Friday to try and fill the void that keeps filling with fluid.....so that feels like progress atleast.
On the hair front.....mine still seems to be growing like a weed.......eyebrows are thinning again.....so it looks like the rumors are true.......just thinning though......so that I can deal with that.....
Chocolate....good luck chemo.....I'm sure you must be tired of treatment......we will be here to support you.....Bonnie.....sorry about the uncomfy prostheses....I can relate.....this tensor bandage is driving me round the bend.......to everyone else.....please continue to check in......this is still by far my favorite place to hang out here!
HunkyD.....have a glas of wine for me would you......I'm trying to be good while on these damn abx.......but I've missed a few sat nights.....catch me up....would ya!
Cheers to all!

Hi All,
Bonnie, what kind of prostheses did you get? I have still just been using a soft form pad. I have not been fitted and don't know if I will even bother depending on my prophylactic surgery and recon. decision. My soft form is comfy anyway. My hair is growing slowly but it is growing. I need more patience I guess. Chocolate...good luck with the chemo. Prayers are with ya. Hang in there. You too Rover. KKing...I like oranges. Dang....going to eat them anyway. I guess maybe I have kind of a moldy personality. I like almonds too. Don't eat them that much but guess maybe I will start. Wyoming...how is school going? How is your kitchen coming along? My house needs some serious cleaning. Just too lazy this weekend. Jax....your wish will be my command. I will be glad to cover your slack and imbibe a little for you. I just hope you get rid of all that infection. Sounds like you might have it licked. The antibiotics can mess with your digestive system for sure. I know I would be in the bathroom a lot. Are you on Tamoxifen? You were talking about Aunt Flow is the reason I ask. Update us all on your hair too if you get a chance. I think you might be at the high end of the curve in this group but it gives slow-pokes like me a glimmer of hope. Lefty, my leg hair isn't very long...I have been shaving though. But...my legs are dry...dry....dry....anybody got any good ideas? I have tried several kinds of lotions including some with urea. I heard that is supposed to be good. Maybe I am molting. Rover...I just about spit up with your analogy on going out without cover. I am still giggling. Well, guess I better think about what I am going to make for dinner that GOES GOOD WITH WINE! Later Girls! HunkyD

Hunky - Pour me a double I've had a rough weekend - my dog died! Not the young one w/ Addisons but the old girl (she was 14). I took the young pup to the Vet yesterday for some blood work and the old girl was acting strange so I took her too. The Vet found a lump on her and yep, cancer. We thought she'd last a couple of weeks but she died during the night. I've lost 2 pets in less than 2 weeks. Ah heck Hunky, just pass me the damn bottle!

Bonnie my hair on my head is about 1" and leg hair seems to grow much faster. I don't have underarm hair. I think I might have to start shaving my face! Good thing it is white fuzz.
Jax sorry to hear about your un-comfy bras. I am really lucky as I only had a lumpectomy. I had more than enough boob to keep my same bra size. HAHAHA My left boob is a little odd shaped but with a bra looks normal. Hopefully your infection is under control.
Chocolate good luck with chemo. Hang in there and keep posting.
KKing I haven't had an orange since I read your last post. I"m sure I will but it gave me something to think about. I love almonds and eat them a lot.
HunkyD my kitchen is all most finished. I'm waiting on the counter top and appliances. I have been putting everything back into cupboards. I have so much more room that I don't know where to put some things. My house needs serious cleaning also. I got rid of the top layer. Now that my kitchen is no longer all over the house I should be able to do a better job cleaning but I hate house cleaning. For your dry skin try Vaseline oil gel. It has helped my and it smells good.
To everyone, I have read that people you have a support group either in person or online have a higher survivor rate so keep up the postings. It not only helps you but all of the rest of us. You are my outlet and I thank you for that.

Rovergirl - so sorry to hear about your cat AND your dog! That's horrible. I hope your younger dog is doing better with Addison's.
HunkyDory - I use Cetaphil lotion on my legs. It was recommended by my son's dermatologist for his dry skin. (I haven't checked to see if it's on the 'approved' list of products, but it works for me.)
Jax - you were talking about Aunt Flow - how do you know if chemopause has actually put you into menopause? I just realized after reading your post, that my hot flashes don't seem to be coming as often...so now I'm wondering what that means.
Hope everyone has a good week. Good luck Chocolate Lover on your new chemo.
Kathy -
Hey Junies........Aunt Flow stopped by last night......I knew I was ovulating a couple of weeks ago......I've always been able to feel it.......I said to DH at the time.......two weeks till the return of PMS........and here she is!......so BBlady to answer your question........I found out by the return of my flow......but I do believe there are test they can do too.......first clue for me was the absense of the hot flashes.
Rover so sorry about the pets.......
HunkyD......I find Aveeno's Overnight relief to be the best cream for really dry skin.....works for me
Well I better get back to holding the couch down.........one of the treatments for seroma is inactivity......so I am very.......very.......very tired of sitting around!.....
Happy Monday!

HunkyD the prostheses that I have is made of a jell of some kind, feels very natural to the touch. It fits inside an extra piece in your bra. I got fitted, did all the right things and I hate it as it still leaves a vacant spot on the side of my ribs and therefore the bra rubs under my arm. They also weigh a lot but they say they weigh the same as your good boob. My arm and back get sore if I wear it and if I don't my shoulder and back get sore, so you can't win. I am contemplating weather to keep trying or ask to have the other one removed so I am the same on both sides plus I wouldn't have to worry about the other boob. The other option of course is to have reconstruction but I have heard some horror stories on that also, although I realize everyone is different.
Yes Jax you get busy and hold that couch down, I know it must be frustrating. Do you do any cross stitch or anything like that. it would sure help to pass the time?
Wyoming good luck on getting your kitchen back in order, big job I know.
Chocolate good luck again on your chemo.
Have a nice day everyone
Bonnie
-
Jax I do a very good couch holding down. I'll help by hold my down my couch and send you vibes.
Bonnie sorry for your discomfort.
I'm still having hot flashes and night sweats. I haven't ovulated for a while now. I might be going through menopause.
Have a good week.

hi ladies,
My aunt, who is 65, has lived with her "chicken fillet insert" (her words, not mine!) since her mastectomy 10 years ago. She finally decided to go have a consultation for reconstructive surgery and her surgery is scheduled for May! She told me she hated that prosthesis and once she decided to have the surgery she felt better already. Wow!
Also, I can't insert a link, but check out the news coming from the University of Arkansas Medical School (UAMS) about a vaccine for breast cancer (not Her2 pos either!) They will start trials this spring, and more trials in 2010. Just like the HPV vaccine - I bet in a few years they will find vaccines for all cancers and we will all be cured!!! I cannot wait!!!
buh bye
-
Good News ChocolateLover. I plan on checking this out. I have two adult daughters so this makes me excited for them!!!!! Good for your aunt.
I'm watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show. I love looking at all the breeds even though I have a mutt.
Have a good Hump Day.
Wyoming

Wow Chocolate wouldn't that be great. Like you said Wyoming, especially for our daughters.
Jax, hope you are feeling better. I am getting the hot flashes, I figure from the tamoxifen and I haven't had aunt flo since my second chemo back in July. Not sure if I am done or not yet.
HunkyD.. how is work, I am not sure when I am going back yet. Not looking forward to it.
Rover...sorry to hear about your dog now.
I have noticed a swelling below my incision for the lymph surgery. It feels like a lump, I haven't checked with a doc yet. Anyone have these lumps?? God, do you all get freaked out right away like I do?
Going to see Naturpath again tomorrow will let you all know if any good info.
Enjoy your day

Bonnie, have you talked to a plastic surgeon about reconstruction? I am seeing Dr Taylor in Oak Bay on the 27th. I am having the same problem as you with the prostheses (I hate it!) so most of the time I just use the soft one the hospital supplied after my mastectomy. I wouldn't go to much on the horror stories you have heard as there are many more successful stories and I would talk to a professional first. We are around the same age and all my Drs. have told me to go for it!
Take Care.
Jill.

Hi Everyone...
Chocolate...I pray for any and all advancements with this nasty a$$ disease! KKing....I know how you are feeling about the slightest "anything" I think as your numbness wears off, which my surgeon says can be over a year that you might start feeling anything from scar tissue to lymphadema abnormalities. Best to get it checked out but I totally understand your worries. My shoulder still bothers me and I always have in the back of my mind that I am getting tumors in my clavical area. I had alot of nodes taken out. and I guarantee the radiation did a little number on my shoulder where they radiated. Luckily I have good range of motion and no swelling but I know it's weaker. Get it checked out for your own peace of mind. Work has been very busy for me. I am on my feet 80 percent of the day so I am still working back up to a somewhat normal energy. I wish I did not have to work but my insurance is holding me like fly paper. Thanks for all the dry skin replies...I have already started using some of your suggestions. Jax...how is AF treating you? I haven't had AF since second chemo either and it was a doozy. My hot flashes aren't real severe either so maybe I am not metabolizing tamoxifen very well. I hope she is gone forever!!! Something to talk to onc about I guess. Wyoming...how are your hands? If I could go one day without thinking about this damn disease I think it would be wonderful. Not likely though. Hey, everyone...you all take care. Tonight is my TV night....LOST. Keep in touch! HunkyD
-
KKing I'm right there with you about anything new must be my cancer returning. I try to be positive but there are days. I have scar tissue under my arm and along my incision on my breast that feels like it could be tumors but both onc and rad onc tell me that it is just scar tissue. (Sorry for such a long sentence) Once I found out they feel a lot different. I think my paranoia working over time. Have your onc check it out for your peace of mind.
HunkyD my hands are still stiff. Some times my middle fingers lock up on me so I have to use the other hand to unbend them. I have a ball that I squeeze all the time which helps. I notice my shoulder on my cancer side is tighter so I have to stretch it more. I notice that I get tired easier than before.
I'm still having hot flashes and night sweats. I go in spurts, have them all the time then a few days with out and then start all over again. I wish I knew how to dress, I never know if I'm going to be cold or hot; no in-between.
It's amazing how much I have changed physically and of course mentally. I'm sure you all feel the same way. Think good thoughts!!!!!

Saw my oncologist this week and have had a cancer setback - it has spread to my liver - damn. Can't believe I have endured one of the toughest chemo regimens - 12 weeks of Taxol, followed by 15 weeks of AC and still the cancer has spread - very discouraged. Being ILC and triple neg. I've always been a walking a science project - but I've really felt good, no indication that it has spread except the imaging test don't lie. I hope like hell the new chemo works.
Rover
-
Rover I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope this new chemo works, good luck.
Jill I just saw my family dr. and he has suggested physiotherapy and the physiotherapist getting in touch with the lady I got the bras and prosthesis from to see if they can correct the problems. He said maybe I should wait just a little longer as it has not been 1 year yet although I am not sure what that has to do with anything. I would really like to keep in touch to see how everything turns out for you as I also hate these prosthesis. I even suggested cutting the other one off to match and then I can go with nothing but I don't think that would make me to happy. Having a real tough time with this although compared to Rover this is so silly to be worrying about I guess. Thanks everyone for letting me blow off steam maybe that will help as the tears have not.
Bonnie
-
Rover, we are here for you, keep talking to us and let us know what you need. This is crappy news! Your liver needs some detoxing/ strengthening help, but maybe not at the same time as chemo. What type of chemo will they try next?
If you ever need to talk, I totally understand the frustration and fear surrounding cancer mets. Its not a fun club to be in. Just let me know. Otherwise, remember that you are a strong, beautiful spiritual being, living in a body that just requires more attention than most.
Hang in there. I'm sending big hugs and many prayers to you,
love Choc. -
Hey Junies......Happy Heart Day!..........Rover so sorry to hear about your progression......I will keep my fingers crossed for a good treatment plan coming your way.
I lost my left expander yesterday......went in to see PS and because the expander was visible behind the wound......that means it had been exposed......so it had to come out........so long day at the hospital waiting for operation.......got home last night about 10 pm..........so now we wait and see how it heals and put a new expander in when all looks good........please keep your fingers crossed that this happens quickly.......I am just getting tired of bad luck at every turn......
Oh and hot flashes are definitely gone........period is almost over.....thank god.......she was a doozie!
Hope everyone is doing well........have a good weekend!
Cheers
Jax

Rover, hang in there. I am praying they can knock back the liver mets with the new chemo. I have that uneasy feeling everyday that I have some little hot spots lurking. Choc can probably give you some good sound advice too. Jax, sorry you lost your expander. It just means things are slowed down....heal up and start over. Bonnie...good luck with your physio. Hope it helps. I did my taxes today and am going to make some cookies now for hubby. I will be back later with a full glass of wine. Later....HunkyD
-
Rover, sorry to hear this, keeping you in my prayers so that the chemo does work for you.
Jax, you sound like you are having a rough go right now... hoping things heal up for you.
Hoping everyone else is doing alright and enjoy this day.
Karen
-
Friday the Thirteenth was a doozy!!!
Rover so sorry about your news. Keep us informed. I will be thinking of you.
Jax heal fast so your can continue with your expanders.
Bonnie good luck with your physio, let us know what happens and if it helps.
HunkD good for you about getting your taxes done. I'm dreading doing mine, afraid I might owe.
Lets hope this week goes better. Good luck everyone.

Hello Ladies,
i am still here its been awhile, i just got finished with my rads about 2 weeks ago, trying to recover from that!!!! i am going to get my medi-port removed on 25 th of feb, can anyone tell me how they sedate you , is it twilight , the same as putting it in?
hey hunkyd, wyom, and bonnie and if i left anyone else out sorry , i have missed talking to you all i hope all is well, i ended up going 50 miles away from home to get my rads done, i had alot of help from my church ladies they are so nice, and have helped me out so much , thanks for all of your prayers and thoughts in 2008!!!! i am going tomorrow for a ultrasound on my neck that the scans saw a node in my neck in aug , they are just now sending me, i told her on my last checkup they told me last year i was going to need to get one, they must have forgot and i am scared that they waited so long it might have been from the chemo last year , hope nothing there now!!! thanks for letting me vent........ take care , liz19
well let you know how things go next two weeks!!!!:) please keep me in your prayers..
-
liz19, good luck on the ulltrasound. Chances are it is probably gone after chemo. My port removal was outpatient. Didn't take over and hour and it was twilight meds they used. Woke right up and went home.
I have been having problems sleeping. I am all off. Helps when I take an Ativan but I can't take those the rest of my life. I have today off of work for Presidents day and haven't even showered yet. Very lazy this morning. Need to either stand in a hot shower for a while or hit the hot tub.
Jax.....hope you heal up fast. Did they give you a time frame? Are they still filling the other one? My thoughts are with ya. Rover...hope you are doing OK too. I'm echoing Wyoming in saying..... May this week be better! Later! HunkyD
-
Liz19 keep us posted on what you find out.
HunkyD I have been having trouble sleeping also. Some nights I sleep great and others I can't get to sleep. My legs are jumping at night too. I take a Tylenol and it seems to help. Not the PM but a regular one. I calms my legs. I am finding my self more tired than when I had rad. I have been having really weird dreams too.
Rover how are you doing today? I've been thinking of you.
Jax how are you feeling?
I wish I knew a good joke to cheer everyone up but my joke telling is not too good. I will look for a good one to post. Have good evening.
Wyoming
-
What do you call a boomer rang that doesn't come back?
A stick!!
O.K. that is the only joke I know.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts. I'm doing O.K. now that the shock has worned off. I'm just taking my meds. - Dasatinib - the investigational drug, normally used for Leukemia - and Xeloda - a traditional BC med - and waiting for the days to tick by so I can have my first imaging tests to see if the drugs are working.
You can add me to the sleepless club. I had chronic insomnia before BC and it only got worse after my diagnosis. I take Ambien CR - Ativan didn't do for me - I needed a bigger club.
Jax - What is "Family Day" in Canada?
Wyoming - don't forget to itemize all those medical expenses on your taxes - wig, mileage, supplies, etc.
Rover
-
Rover, you sound fairly chipper considering.
On a flight to New York, a blonde sitting in coach noticed an empty seat in first class so she went up and got settled more comfortably. The flight attendant asked her to return to her own seat, but she wouldn't move. Then the First officer told her she would have to go back to her original seat, but still, she refused to move. Finally the captain was called. No problem, he said. My wife is blonde, I speak blonde, let me talk to her. He went over and whispered into her ear, then returned to the cockpit. Immediately, the woman stood and returned to her seat in coach class. Astonished, the flight attendant asked the pilot what he had said. Well, I just told her that First class wasn't going to New York.happy Tuesday gals!
-
Hey Junies........doing OK..........there seems to be no redness or swelling.....and drainage is minimal......so I will keep my fingers crossed that PS will place a new TE soon.
Family Day is a new holiday here in Canada......last year was the first year for it........I guess someone decided that we needed a day off in February........I was happy to have the kids and hubby home!
Cheers to all.....stay strong!
Jax
-
What do you beat people up with who crack bad jokes?
A STICK!! lol
-
aawww...HD, didn't you like my joke? I used to be blonde but now my hair is back to the dark roots that Miss Clairol used to take care of. So now I can crack them blonde jokes. hahaha.
Hey Jax - we've had Family Day in Alberta for years and years. Our Premier, Peter Laugheed, had a teenage son who was into drugs etc. He decided that we needed to spend more time with family, so he picked a date in Feb. and gave the province a holiday and called it family day. I remember when I first moved from Ontario to Alberta, I thought everyone was joking when they said we had a long weekend in Feb. but I have enjoyed it for over 15 years! Isn't it great?!
Rover, did you check out that trial at the University of Arkansas Medical School? Your onc. might be able to refer you. you never know?! google it.
ciao for now
