Artfull Bras Project

Took out a bra and tried to figure out how to make into a planter... hmmmmm -- help needed. Or put "around" a hanging pot???
-
If you want to use it in that way... what about that "stuff" that stiffens fabric "things"... maybe someone can chime in... I have never used it.
I bought a BLANK bra today... at Walmart... can't wait to start embelishing it... how fun?! Have any of you started one? If you can't think of one to do... post... I know we can come up with something. This really is a great way to use some of my extra beads, trims, ribbons, etc.
-
I think the enthusiasm here is great... regardless of where this goes... I think it's a great project and a great way for us crafters/embelishers to air our talents... let's keep it going... if noting else... we can donate our masterpieces to the SC club mentioned in my opening post. Get creative... have fun... this is a great "outlet" for the stress bc can impose upon us... I say: EMBELISH - it's so much fun!
-
I am getting a visual of flashing lights and glow in the dark ... ROFL...
-
Maybe we could borrow from the idea of the afghan project. Call it The "Support" Bra. All of interested in making these could go ahead and do some. We can post pictures for each other, ect. BUT when one of our sisters is in need of a "lifting" up,LOL one of us could send her one from The Support Bra group. ??????????????????

Oh Marsha! That is too perfect!
-
We could come up with some funny little note we attach to each one. Something we all have a copy of to print out, with a place to fill in the name of whatever bra they are receiving. This could be soooo fun!
-
Great idea Marsha!
-
Ditto, great idea.
-
SO CUTE!

I am learning to quilt and I would love to do a bra.... it appears that they bought a number of bras all the same size and design. The cost of doing this shouldnt be exhorbitant. However, some uniformity is also needed. Do we say that the underlying bra should be a 36C of beige or white or black?
-
I plan to use the bras I have collecting dust in my lingerie drawer! (I promise to wash them first LOL)
Dream, I think we all decided they don't have to be quilted. We're taking their idea and spinning it alittle!
-
Marsha, that is a good idea about the Support Bra.
I was thinking that if I get the energy to ever do a walk, that would a good thing to wear (over a t-shirt of course!)
-
jader, you made me LOL... "over", not under...???
-
If decorated enough, you could wear it INSTEAD of.
-
Of Course...

Hi - I was checking up on our ARTFULL BRA's trip around the world on the internet and found your forum...I'm the daughter of a breast cancer survivor and so proud that our ARTFULL BRA project has caught the eye of so many......its been wonderful to see how many folks have embraced this project and created their own ideas to do the same! We are glad and hope you take it and run! We were not the first to come up with the idea and from the sound of things won't be the last......all of the bras were made by members of our statewide quilt guild, but you are right, not all and hardly any are actually quilted. One is even lined with orange duck tape! Our rules were that you had to start with a new 38 padded underwire bra....color doesn't matter since it would be covered....that was it....our members had from April to October to fnish and turn them in....one is still out and it is the TIE ONE ON bra.....it honors all cancers and has ribbons of all the cancers....teal, pink, white, orange, black, blue, light blue, lime green..it is being honored at the American Cancer Society here in Columbia and will join the exhibit in March when we have an exhibit at an art gallery in town.......so go girls.....have a great time......you are in my heart...
-
AnitaBra - Wow...thanks so much for taking the time to post to us! We are all pretty excited about letting our creative talents run wild with this project. Stop back in from time to time...we will be updating this thread regularly. I'm starting on mine tomorrow...I love nature and live in a forest...so that will be one. And - I happen to own a race car and love to race it... so racing will be the second one I make.
Again - Thanks for inspiring us to get this project going! Be well...
-
Anita, as a previous quilt store owner and guild member, I know that you can take this information back to your guild. Let them know that those of us with breast cancer that saw this post and responded (there's just under 50,000 members on these boards) from around the world were moved by your project. It has not offended anyone, just in case the ladies making them were hoping they weren't being too flip! Cancer tends to give someone a warped sense of humour....
It has inspired us as breast cancer patients (HATE the words victim/survivor) to do our own.
-
I am so looking forward to seeing your projects....I know they will be inspired works of art! Most of the quilters who made an ARTFULL Bra have a connection with breast cancer....a family member, friend, themselves - our first treasurer of the Quilters of SC Quilt Guild ...was a dynamic force in starting the guild.....so we didn't have a problem pouring our creativity into the challenge. 99.9% of the feedback has been so wonderful but we did have a reply that we were being disrespectful..hate to think what that person will say if we go through with the next proposed challenge, jock straps for testictular cancer.....can't you just see the results now!! Stay well -
-
Oh AnitaBra! That is hysterical!!!! I love that idea. I wonder if the person who thought it was disrespectful has been through it themselves or was just projecting that it would be offensive? Hmmm. I think most people have a sense of humor.
I have a couple of ideas I've been drawing up and putting on paper to work through. I think it is a wonderful idea and will be a blast. Please tell the Guild how much we admire their work and truly appreciate the humor.
Thanks so much for checking in and giving us the info. Please continue to pop in and check on us!

Have any of you creative goddesses started your BRA?
-
Hi Laura - did you get the leaves yet by any chance? I've got as far as drawing some things, but no actual work on it. I'm trying to get the box of squares done to send to Liz. I'm an awful procrastinator when it comes to weaving in ends....I'm a bad girl. I still have a few to finish. Have you started yours - I bet you have!

I've got the main idea of mine but haven't actually started it yet. Tomorrow is my last day of radiation so hopefully next week I can get started or real. I do alot of local theatre here and we have an awesome costume shop. I'm going to go by there next week and have Brdgette start saving scraps for me. She cuts up everything, even minks! Plus she will let me use anything in there.
Thanks Anita for popping in. You guys have done a fabulous job!
-
Amy - I too am shuffling my bra creation with squares for the border patrol. Thanks again for the leaves... they are perfect!
Marsha - Keep us posted on your creation...oooooooh costume shop? That would surely be a great place to find embelishments.
-
Amy - I pm'd you with some ideas... just fyi!
Have a nice day everyone!
-
I was cleaning out some dresser drawers and found 2 old swim suits... would they make a good "project" ???
-
those bras are incredibly creative ! What a great idea to raise awareness--it made my day!
-
Nancy - I don't see why you couldn't use the bathing suit tops as as the "base"...and then embellish them with the theme you choose.
awb - If you're feeling creative - feel free make one! : )
-------------------------------
I started my forest/elegant mother nature theme bra. It's looking good...but I still have quite a bit left to do. Embellish, embellish, embellish - I LOVE THAT WORD! lol I have lots of beads and left over tassels and trim...I'm so happy to be putting it all to good use. I'll post a photo when I'm about halfway done with it. Inspiration IS contagious!
-
I am thinking of the swim suit as a planter. Sew up the bottom, put in some moss and plant some kind of pretty vine-- make it a garden theme... all over with flower appliques, smily sun, etc. I am not very creative, but will keep the word "embellish" in mind !!
