Could you tell me to calm down
I was just rubbing a "sore" spot in my under arm on my affected side and I felt a large lump. I know it could be scar tissue etc. I've just never felt it before. I guess what freaks me out is I found it just like I found the lump 5 years ago - reached up to rub a sore spot and there is was. My onc is out all week - and really I think that's good because it will force me to step back and think logically about it. I've had a cold (sore throat and cough) for a week so it could be the nodes dealing with that.
Sorry I just had to spew this out. I'll be calmer in like and hour

Calm down!!! lol. Seriously, I hope it is just lymph node swelling due to your recent illness as that is very common. Try not to worry too much in the meantime, and maybe tomorrow you'll wake up and be lump free! Did you have an SNB or ALND by any chance? I still have lumpy scar tissue that moves around in there from those procedures.
It will all be ok, and I hope you are starting to feel better!!
Hugs

I'm glad you posted, and told us about your finding. It's always so fearful, touching near the effected side, knowing at times your bound to find something different as we don't spend our life touching ourselves. I do have lumps of sorts where the surgeon obviously scraped down to fibrous tissue and bone, and you're right the body readjusts and often puts down scar tissue where none was present before. Also nervous tissue can bulge at the end of a large nerve, I believe called a neuroma which can be tender.
I know how panicky you get, then step back and say, well time to proceed to the next step, being a doctor. But it sure does help having a place to go, and people to share with, and I hope you'll come as often as you need. I and others will be thinking of you, supporting you.

Dear Jill,
I would love to tell ya to calm down but I know that I do the same thing myself --all I can say is that I've had many weird symptoms that have freaked me out. Chances are that all B9 as we know in our heads but we all get that scary feeling after what we've been through.
Today has been 4 years to the day when they told me I had BC. Thankful... but anniversaries tend to be reminders too.
I remember you posting from a couple of years ago. Was so happy when you had that wonderful little one. I just saw his pic and he's so cute. Bet he keeps ya busy!!!!
Praying for ya sis. May all be well with you and yours,
Wendy ( from WI)

Thanks ladies. I'm better. Calmed down. I was able to feel it while looking at the area. It is near my scar so pretty sure we're talking scar tissue. I'll keep and eye on it as my cold runs it's course. Just breathe right?

Hoping for a bit of scar tissue to brighten your day!
-
I have a lump right on my scar line from my ALD - it even has one completely straight edge (from the scarline) I still made my onc touch it so that he could tell me it is quite obviously scar tissue. Yours is too.

I have a ridge/lump thing under my arm that has been there, unchanged, for several years. I've stopped showing it to my surgeon because he always says it is scar tissue, which I've finally accepted it is. Show it to your doc for peace of mind, but I really think it is scar tissue.

thanks! i'm doing better in that regards but I'm home today. My "cold" blew up. I call it a "cold" becuase it's not a normal cold. More a sore throat that makes my ears hurt and a cough. I've had the sore throat for over a week. It went away for a few days and resurfaced. I think I'll be going in for a strep test just to make sure. I need to just stay home a day and finally deal with the "cold" and get rid of it!

Jill
Did you see your doctor that it is just a scare tissue or sth? Pls let us know. Alex

I felt a lump yesterday - thank goodness I had an appointment that morning with the PS - he said it was fat from my side that he tried to pull forward! Whew!
Please do go in for your throat - maybe get some meds to help. You need to stay home for a day or two and let your body heal itself.
I think years ago a doctor told me to continue a normal schedule when you're sick is like beating a dead horse!
Feel better soon.

Well I went to the dr for my throat. It's strep! Barely barely barely came up on the rapid test. So I'm on meds nows. I should start feeling better soon. I still feel the lump but the more I look and feel it - the more it seems like scar tissue. It is right under my scar. I knew about the scar tissue between my two scars - I just didn't remember/know about this one. I'll continue to moniter it.

And get it checked ... that REALLY makes you feel better .. Dr Nancy Sniderman was on TV talking about how even she talks herself out of getting things checked. She debated for 48 hours whether or not to report her symptoms that she was having of possible heart disease. Thankfully, her BRAIN kicked in and she got checked! Sure enough, she had early stage heart disease and she has been able to reverse the effects of it through lifestyle changes. So go get checked!

Jill, I was feeling around under my arm just this morning and thought I felt something odd that wasn't there last month. It's not a lump--it's kind of gnarly and fibrous, and it's right about where the tube for my under-arm surgical drain was located.
I had a SNB with 3 nodes removed; all were clean. But, I've always worried that maybe they didn't get the right node, or maybe the SNB marker dyes bypassed the real sentinel node. So, I've been worrying, too. (Maybe I should migrate to that new forum for depression, anxiety, etc.)
Anyway, I have a follow-up appt with my onco next Monday that was scheduled 6 months ago, so I've decided to ... <sigh> (how are we supposed to do this?) ... forget about it until then. I really do think the gnarly thing has been there, but it comes and goes as I have occasional fluid building up there.
And, something about the calendar was bugging me, so I checked, and my mastectomy/SNB was exactly one year ago today. What an anniversary! I was wondering why I lingered at the wine section in the grocery store yesterday, thinking maybe I should buy a bottle of champaigne. Now I know why.
Yours will be scar tissue. Mine will be scar tissue. They ALL will be scar tissue, unless proven otherwise.
Hugs,
otter

Keep in mind there's a lot of stuff going on under our arms. Feel your "good" underarm and you will see. Its like grand central station in there.
