Pathology results
I am in need of some help from all you intelligent ladies out there. I would ask my Dr. but she won't be back till Monday..... I got a copy of my Pathology report today and something puzzles me, maybe someone out there can clarify.
Under the comment section it says "this is an infiltrating ductal carcinoma with focal features suggestive of chondroid metaplasia (metaplastic carcinoma) what the He%^ does that mean??????. Well the Dr. already told me I had this IDC on Monday but what does the rest mean she didn't have a hard copy of the report when I went on Monday only what they sent her through the computer.
Under final microscopic diagnosis it reads...
infiltrating mammary carcinoma predicted nuclear grade 2-3
there is more estrogen receptor neg
progesterone receptor neg
Then at the bottom of the comment section it says er/pr and Her2neu assay results are pending
Pathologist writes that he has discussed this with my Dr.
I need a Xanax I have an appointment soon to see about something for anxiety. I feel like I can't breathe sometimes or catch my breath. Thanks for any help out there.. Joan

I don't know what it is exactly although there is a thread on here that talks about the metaplasic carcinoma.........http://community.breastcancer.org/topic/5/conversation/598314
Estrogen receptive means that your particular cancer is receptive to hormones. Meaning it feeds off of hormones, same as mine.........they will most likely put you on a pill for 5 yrs, a hormone blocker such as arimidex or the other one, can't remember the name, after you're finished with all your treatments............
That's about all I can tell you.....you can do a search on here for pathology ,it brings up a page to help you in reading your pathology report.

Hi Joan, Take a deep breath. Something for anxiety is always good for those tough moments. Nuclear grade has to do with the aggressiveness of the tumor. 2-3 is good, not very aggressive. Mine was 8. Metaplastic carcinoma is rare and yours is only suggestive of it so don't worry about it too much until you hear what your onc has to say about it. Sorry you had to join this club that no one wants to join. Hang in there. You will learn lots and it does get a little better once you have started your treatment options. Hugs to you. Brenda

Thanks, I went to my PC physician today and got Lorazapam and Ambien. Surgery is on Wednesday still scared but you guys give me so much hope. I told all my Drs. what a great bunch you all are. She said you guys are the experts. She is with me all the way she said that if there is a silver lining to all this, it's that the tumor is small and that I have a great surgeon who happens to be hers too. Thanks again Joan
