Some helpful info that you may not know...thoughts to ponder
Today my mother lost a very good friend, Alaska Deb, who fought a very hard battle with breast cancer. It seems as though lately everyone knows someone whom has had cancer, or has been affected by this terrible illness. I am lucky enough to have wonderful friends and family that are very supportive of both myself and my mother. This enables me to stay strong! I am thankful for that. However, with the majority of cancers rising by almost 30% in the past ten years, I sat back and pondered. What the hell? What is causing such a major epidemic in our country and why is no one doing anything about it? I made the choice to do some investigating of my own and have come to a few conclusions. I refuse to sit back and do nothing, while millions of people face losing thier lives, including my own mother. Among US residents alone, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer at some point in thier lives. In Ohio, nearly 45% of all cancers have increased dramatically within only the past few years. Research shows that environmental factors trigger diseases like cancer, especially when family history is present. What are these environmental factors, you may be asking yourself? Well, be prepared. They are quite overwhelming! Go grab yourself a tall glass of water first. Enjoy the perchlorate you are digesting, while you are at it! Perchlorate is a toxic rocket fuel ingredient that causes cancer and interfers with normal thyroid functions; thus increasing the rates of cancer and the rise in obesity ( I knew it was not the McDonalds!). It has been found in nearly 35% of drinking supplies in our country. This chemical is unregulated by the state or federal authorities and has been deemed safe by the FDA. Safe, my ass. Thank God for whoever invented the Brita filter. So, passing on the tap water? Grab a bottled water. Also digest fertilizer residue, disinfection byproducts, chemical remnants of medications, arsenic and boron. The bottled water industry is not required to reveal the chemical components of it's products. But, they can rip you off by stating how "pure" it is on the bottle. Right..and I'm Mother Teresa. So, onto an American classic. The cheeseburger. According to a Harvard study, women who eat red meat regularly appear to face an increased risk of some form of breast cancer in thier futures. I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think this might have something to do with the growth hormones that are fed to the cows? (also attributing to young girls maturing at a much faster rate. Hormones used in HRT JUST NOW made it to the US list of carcinogens, which ironically caused my mothers cancer. You are a little too late, US officials). Canada banned the use of growth hormones in 1999, after realizing it contributed to colon and breast cancer, and noticed rising opus cells present in thier cows milk. Perhaps we can learn something from our northern neighbors! Pray you do not get sick while drinking non-organic milk. The antibiotics used to deter the consequences of growth hormones in cows have also caused the new antibiotic epidemic. Many people have developed a resistance to the use of antibiotics due to the fact that they digest them on a daily basis. Hopefully, while eating that cheeseburger you do not also digest the cobalt sulfate off of your plate. This chemical is found on most ceramic surfaces and is known to cause tumors in the lungs and adrenal glands. So, onto your beauty regimin. Like most normal American's, I am hoping you will use soap, deodorant or maybe even makeup. Most products in cosmetics are either cancer causing in themselves, or break down into formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. Chemicals called parabens are in most freqently used products. Paraben is a chemical that resembles a normal hormone, but does have an adverse effect on our bodies targeting our immune systems. I sincerely hope you realize that everytime you swipe that deodorant under your arms, you are also swiping aluminum onto your skin. Aluminum being a metal, under your arm being porous, you do the thinking.I will stick with my Tom's deodorant, free of metal! So, what can we do to protect ourselves when it seems as though the government is allowing us to be poisoned? Everyone has to start where they are comfortable. You have to take control of your own home. You have to control what goes onto your body, and what goes into it as well. There are many websites that offer info relating to chemicals in products. I use www.cosmeticsdatabase.com on a daily basis, thanks to my mother. This website states info relating to chemical compounds, safety concerns, carcinogen levels, and animal testing. Who knew that Johnsons baby products were harmful? I sure as heck did not. Also ,while organic options at your grocer's may be more expensive, think of the money you will save on doctor visits! I try to buy green when ever I possibly can, especially stocking up on items such as meat, snacks, fruits and veggies when they are on sale. Even cleaning products can be made organically, using natural oils that can be found at any natural foods store. They are actually cheaper in the long run due to thier concentration. Many ailments you may need to take over the counter meds for, can be easily cured with a simple, inexpensive herb (even cheaper if you grow them yourself. Im speaking of the legal ones). And FYI- a product can be labeled organic even if it meets standards by only 75%, so choose carefully! Many natural food stores are very helpful with any questions and seem to be very knowledgeable about the items they sell. So... this protects you. But what about the rest of the world? Start BIG- Make others aware! It sickens me that our very own government can take cancer preventing measures that make huge profits for them (banning smoking in public places. Where do you think the money for violations go?), yet can not control the simple things. Are they trying to kill us all? Government genocide? Is this thier idea of population control? WTF? A cigarette occasionally, might kill me. I know this. But all of the other pollutants in our country will kill ALL of us. In honor of Alaska Deb, my mothers support group has started a myspace page (Feel free to friend! They are on my friends or www.myspace.com/curebreastcancernow) They are asking everyone, that on February 14th, to send an email to our government to find a cure for this disease. Let our voices be heard! You can do this very simply by sending President Obama a message at www.whitehouse.gov-PresidentObama. It is time for our government to feel the repurcussions of thier negligence. Just think, if our country stays on this irresponsible road, you could be walking in Alaska Deb's very same footprints. I can assure you this is a battle you will never want to face. Please say a prayer for a very good friend of my mother, all of those that have lost thier lives, and those that fear losing this battle. We all have to stand for something. I believe I have found my calling. Have a great day!

Thanks for sharing Deb....you must be very proud of your daughter! Thank her for me.

Lorie is my sweet, caring daughter......she's been so good to me during chemo and all.....came over and spent like 4 hours cleaning my house (with natural cleaners of course), has brought me dinners she got out of a cancer cookbook......she has just really gone out of her way to make things easier for me, but I was even blown away by this.........
Deb
-
That's awesome!
I hear more and more about natural cleaners. I may need to switch.
Where is Loveland? Did you get snowed on yesterday? We got 14 inches. I am near Akron.
-
my3girls, I heard that the Travolta's stopped using store bought cleaning agents due to the seizures they caused and only use natural products now due to their precious son who just passed away....
Loveland is about 30 miles East of Cincinnati....we got the first nite, oh 5 or so inches, then came the freezing rain all nite long, then another 4-5 inches of snow the next day...it was horrible....roads are still bad around here, even main roads!
Hugs

Thanks so much for sharing this.
I am here too because of my mother's cancer. I love this board. If you go to www.breastcancerfund.org , they also have this petition for Obama. I get their email alerts and newsletters.
Also google "toxic tours". There is a very interesting story there. I will be planting my vegetables in pots from now on, not in the soil in the backyard that is contaminated with so many pollutants.

It would be a little easier to digest if she learned to use the <ENTER> key and create paragraphs.
Just sayin'.

well lj13, considering that this entry was posted from a myspace blog, the appearance may be different from when it was posted. I did not cut and copy it, my sick mother did to provide others with helpful info. But thank you for the suggestion and insult. Perhaps I should be better "learned" with my college education. Keep your hateful comments to yourself. This is a positive site, just saying....This blog was written for my ill mother, and all the millions suffering from this terrible disease, not to impress others. Have a great day and I pray you NEVER suffer from this. Your attitude towards helping others is a shame...just saying.....
-
LJ, that was pretty rude......I cut and pasted that here, it was formatted for myspace not here.....I just posted it because it was well written and my daughter had good thoughts and ideas in there....you remember your Mom ever saying "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"?

that was an excellent piece Lorieanne.. and thank you for sharing it Deb.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE IT.. it's very helpful. I will email the president and save your letter. If you were my daughter I would be SO proud of you and angry perhaps at the person who complained about the lack of paragraphs even tho I know breast cancer does make one sometimes grumpy.
-
Lorieanne, what I did was provide constructive criticism. There was nothing hateful about it. OTOH, your response was venomous and unwarranted. You, young lady, have a lot of growing up to do.
I have participated in this forum for over a year and have over 300 actual helpful posts, none of which are endless paragraphs of text spewed from a mixture of urban legends, paranoia, and valid science.
Deb, I'm sorry you perceive the comment as rude. It was not intended as such and in the future, if you want to share other blog entries, try using the <ENTER> key to create paragraphs. I'll guarantee you that dozens of people just blew right past the post because it's a daunting prospect to wade through so much unformatted text.
And ... I am a professional writer and have some knowledge of the matter of communication.
Re the platitude, if anyone only ever said nice stuff, no one would ever improve.
-
that assumes one improves only with negative criticism.
i'm a professional writer as well and don't use capitals in forums because WORD capitalizes for you.
-
-
Apple Thanks hon. but don't worry....I don't deal with rude people outside of this board and I refuse to be baited into an argument over something so stupid as "paragraphs"....If only the rest of the world were this perfect........sigh.............
-
you're write of course Deb. i should no better than to argue on the internet.
apologies LJ (I've just read some of your posts and you are a thoughtful contributer).

Well, thank you so much to everyone that enjoyed it! Given that this was written to help my sick mother and ALL mankind, i could honestly care less if it was written on toilet paper. It did take some research from valid sources. However, most of this I already knew and it is this info that made me decide to make healthier choices in my life by being a greenie! I am proud of the choices I have made in my life, not only for myself, but for my children. (Not to mention, the wealth of information I can provide to my mother will help her beat this!) While I pray daily for my mother and all of the women suffering, I also pray that my choices in life protect me from this disease. I now know that my chances of suffering are greater because of my mothers diagnosis (on my birthday of all days). This makes me try even harder! I am amazed at the determination and strength from the women on this site. It is truly inspiring! I would hope that if I was ever in any of your shoes, I WILL have the will to live, as I have learned from many of you! Thanks to all for being supportive of my mother! It really does help her....

This is a great piece, Lorieanne. Thanks so much for sharing. Glad to see that I am not the only one wondering how it comes that we seem to be hearing almost every month about someone suddently being diagnosed with cancer. And has anybody noticed the number of new cases of pancreatic cancers, lately? I mean: not just among the famous, but also right around us.........What is going on? For sure, we are being poisoned right, left, and center.
-
I've noticed that also Yazmin.....and now Justice Ginsberg in Washington.....every single person I have talked to this week and I am seriious here, knows someone with some sort of cancer.it's getting to the point where I don't want to talk to anyone for fear of hearing another one struck. There has to be something causing all of it...it's ridiculous....and it needs to stop.

Deb-from-Ohio:
So I am not being paranoid, it is really happening. and as Lorieanne puts it so nicely: Does anybody among the so-called people in charge seem to be getting alarmed? I attended a lunchtime speach some time ago, where a full-fledged doctor actually declared that there are no dietary factors to the cancer epidemic! (and this is somebody with an MD degree?)
-
What a great story, thank you for sharing. I will be marking this as a favorite. Heather
-
Yazmin I don't know, I don't think I'm paranoid, I think it's truly happening....Take a look in the newly diagnosed forum here, everyday there are alot of new ones and that's just on this board. and Lorie's right, no one seems to be getting alarmed...Mainly because the people in charge aren't aware of the stats.....thats why on Feb 14th when I email Obama and the rest I plan on telling them the stats. This is a serious issue and need to be dealt with immediately. I guess it doesn't hit you till it hits you or someone in your family....
Deb
-
Deb-from-Ohio:
Actually, I think "they" know the statistics, but the authorities have just not been concerned about it. For financial reasons, I believe. I personally believe it is more profitable for them to look the other way.
Let's look at it this way: AstraZeneca, the biggest maker of chemotherapy agents also makes pesticides, a fact that they have tried to conceal (and would they have tried to deny this if it were right?).
As soon as a substance shows a survival advantage of, say, 3 months, it is forced onto the market with loud, aggressive marketing. Independent researchers (who worked at some point for pharmaceutical companies and left in disgust) have demonstrated time and again that the benefit from most new substances is SMALL, if any at all, considering the dangerous side-effects which, in some cases, negate any "benefit" that might be reaped from taking said medicines.
I am encouraged, though, by the fact that more young people like Lorieanne are able to form their own opinion thanks to that giant (and growing) research and contact facility: the internet.
I suspect that these young people cannot be lied-to as readily as the previous generation: I have a feeling that the likes of Lorieanne will agitate, question, demand answers. The days of people sheepishly executing what their Daddy-Doctor said may be on their way out the door (at least that's my prayer for the future).
-
Ya know Yazmin, ya gotta wonder if AstraZeneca has a huge lobbying force in Washington also...I think that has alot to do as to why a cure hasn't been found or if it has, it's been kept secret.....
I am very proud of Lorie....she's a very eco conscious person, save the earth, she worries about her girls when they are older and what kind of planet is going to be left to them...what health risks they may face, her girls are her driving force. And you're right, they won't be lied to, they want facts and they want it on paper......
Deb

Well, Deb: I don't wonder whether AstraZeneca has a huge lobbying force in Washington: I KNOW they do (and that's not even a secret, anyway).
