Hello Ladies...I am new to the boards.  I am considering DIEP breast reconstruction because I am having a horrible time dealing with the way I look.  This seems to be the best option for me in my opinion, but I would love to hear from any of you who have had this type of reconstruction...especially if it was delayed.  Thank you so much!!

Honey, go to the Forum Index, then Test, Treatments......and then go Breast Reconstruction.  There is a wealth of information there about DIEP and other recon methods.  It's forum #44.

    Best wishes to you.

Hi, Lori. I had a very skilled PS perform a DIEP after my exchange failed. I even worked through the academic year until I could get grades in before getting it done. I just finished Stage 2 and am very pleased w/the results (I have a postop next week). It's important to be sure that you get an experienced PS--I'm sure you can get referrals from the list. The surgery isn't a walk in the park, but I told my PS 4 days postop (I was in the hospital for 7) that I felt like myself for the first time since my mx. Feel free to PM or post w/specific questions. You'll also find a lot of threads on the Breast Reconstruction board.

I also had a stacked DIEP and am VERY happy with the results so far (still need stage 2).  There is a ton of info where Tina (abbadoodles) directed you.  I previously had an implant and was not pleased at all.  The difference in feel and comfort is dramatic.  Let me know if there are specifics you are looking for.  I had mine done at NOLA.  Good luck.

Lori, I had bilateral immediate DIEP and am so glad that I made this decision.  The key is to go to a highly experienced surgeon.  There are lots of photos of delayed DIEPs at this site:  http://www.breastcenter.com/news/20071029_wvue.php
