Oooh, Linora, sorry I missed that, but I can guess what it looked like!!

Oh, Daff, I love home mags!!  You're a woman after my own heart.  I may be a Yankee by birth, but I grew up in one of the 13 colonies in one of the oldest towns in Masschusetts & I know I would just love Charleston Home.  I enjoyed visiting that charming city some years back.  Loved Virginia, too.

Your outfit sounds stunning.  So, is it that fifty is the "New Forty"?  I'd agree with that, except that we start losing all this estrogren after 50 (not to mention hormonal treatment for BC), and I'd kill to have the skin I had ten years ago in my forties.

I don't know what she's talking about!!  I get the idea of what she is trying to do, but is sounds pretty kludgy to me.  My best suggestion for hemming jeans is to cut the hem off, and rehem them using a regular machine stitch the same way they were originally hemmed, which usually means a double fold sewn twice.  Use the same color thread too.

Raye, didn't Charla or whatever her name is say never, never, never wear nude hose as it is the most OL thing there is?   So, now I have to spray my legs?  God help me, another new skill to develop. LOL

Well, at least I can report that I'm already in almost perfect compliance with most of her rules.  Most.

I think the glasses she shows as Y&H are mostly pretty gross.  Talk about Elton John.  I also think it's one thing to wear showy glasses with heavy plastic frames if your eyes are nothing special but if they are one of your best features (ahem) why hide them?

Did you check out the pictures of her models on the last page of the book?  Over forty moms, friends of a friend from Greenwich.  Gee, I thought they looked pretty bad and their jeans looked pretty unflattering, even if not strictly mommy, to me.

I forgot to give a magazine report.  Glamour is truly way too young for me.  Most of this issue was about men. Like I don't already have enough of them. I already know how to turn on my man:  just breathe.  LOL  I want Fashion and Beauty from a magazine named "Glamour."

Allure was okay.  So far I really like InStyle much better.

OK--guess  my age is showing, but bare legs??? Not only is it too cold for that MOST places in winter, but I don't think it LOOKS as flattering as silk or good hose-----I remember watching the Today show when Katie Couric first embraced that fad...Jimmy Choo with no hose? ...doesn't do it for me!

I know that shoes tend to be easier to keep on without hose, but my feet sweat without them.

Also, getting to the varicose vein stage and at least hose camoflages it a bit. 

Besides, up here in the cold, I think it's just slutty to have bear legs. 

So, some Vogue chick started all that about the hose.  It figures.  Probably had a fight with a colleague in the hose industry and decided to "fix him."  And we women are stupid enough to march to that tune.  Gimmeabreak.  I still am not sold on the fishnets, though, Daffodil's obvious fashion sense notwithstanding.  When did they leave the strumpet line?  I remember my one and only pair of fishnets.  I was about 16 and they were pink...............

barbe, I agree that shoes without stockings feel horrible on the feet and make that ucky sucking sound when you take them off due to the sweating.  And in the cold, nah.  I'm not as far north as you are but it still hasn't gone above 25 degrees here almost since early December. 

There has to be a better way.  Or maybe looking old really means looking sensible.

Now, ladies, I am in the market for a laptop bag.  Actually, I am only going to be trucking my old laptop between my office and the house, about 150 feet away.  I suppose I could get by with an old tote bag but I want something cuter and more padded in case I drop it.  I looked on the staples website and they have some cute ones in colors and prints but the prices are pretty high.  Any suggestions?

Tina, you are right. Charla does have the nude hose listed as something you "must throw out."  Considered very OL. She is a proponent of the nude fishnets, however. hmmm. She does make some good points, although a lot of what she says, I cannot agree with. To be Y&H  (young and hip) a woman must highlight her hair?

I am a fan of bare legs in the summer. And yes, Barbe! The shoes stay on much better without hose. In the winter it is way too cold for this, although I do wear skirts with high boots and short socks without tights.

Raye, I agree with no hose in hot weather.  That's why I hate to wear closed-in shoes in the summer.  My feet get too hot and sweaty in them.  Last year I lived in my Havaianas.  My feet want to be Freeeeeeeeeeee.

barbe, I think that you are "allowed" to wear any conservative color of opaque hose/tights.  Brown, wine, dark green, charcoal.  No crazy stuff, although I do think that is a bit "age-ist."  True, we might look silly in polka dot tights (most of us) but gee, haven't we earned the right to look however we want?  LOL

Another question I had about the book (and what I've been reading in fashion mags) is that sheer colored hose are not favored, just opaque.  Huh?

Why don't the rest of you girls read that book and we can have a proper book discussion?    Just like my regular book group, only just us and just fashion/beauty.
