Hi Marsha,  yes the juice is better if you drink it ASAP, but it is ok if you don't store it any longer than 24/hrs is my rule, as I work from home now, I just make mine fresh as wanted. As far as being hard to digest, what it can do is make you a bit "gas-E" if you know what I mean, espically if you did not do alot of fruits and veggies before,  so adding water or just making sure you drink enough H20 throughout the day will help.

Laura as far as rads,  yeah it is one of those thiings, when I was DX I did not have the knowledge about alot of stuff that I have now, I just did what I was told - Lumpectomy & Rads (of coarse I was scared and thought I had to do everything ASAP or I would die),  knowing what I know now, I would have done MX then - HINDSIGHT!!!!!!   I had to have a very extensive area on my left side treated, my BC tumor was small, but I had alot of area of LCIS, that is apparently what has caused the lung damage, so far lucky though it is in the upper portion of my lung not the entire lung,  so I'll do my breathing exercises, and if I need meds that too -  and hopefully NOT pick up anymore flu/pneumonia/cold bugs.  Flu shots from here on out.

hi ladies...i have a friend who insists i buy a juicer immediately...other than making sure i get my recommended amount of vitamins and minerals what are the other advantages?...he tells me that it will help detox and cleanse as i'm going through chemo and afterwards...if there is a lack of fiber then it seems to me that natural fiber in foods rather than juice would do a better job of cleansing....i'm confused!...can you ladies give me more information?

    Hi CarlaJane,

Your friend is right Juicing does help to detox the body from many things.

Orange & Red Veggies/fruits - have high levels of carotene a suspected anticancer substance

Citrus - contain vitamin C and bioflavonoids, immune stregthening nutrients

Dark green leafy vegggie - rich in folic acid, this is a B-Complex vitamin necessary for proper maintenance of red blood cells and nervous system.

AND most of us do not eat the required 4-5 required servings a day -  juicing is a quick easy way to acheive these recommended quidelines.

Chemo/rads/surgery weaken our immune system, as of coarse the BC does itself,

For those of you who have Vita-Mix machines - I am a member of the Vita-Mix User's Group and we just had a discussion of how you can do both "traditional juicing" (by removing the fiber) and fiber-filled juicing in the Vita-Mix machine.

After making the juice in the Vita-Mix, you can pour the juice through a nut-milk bag and trap the fiber.  If you want the fiber (and most do) just make "blended salads, V-8 type drinks, or green smoothies in your Vita-Mix.

You can get recipes and the link to the Vita-Mix User's Group on my website at: www.VitaMixLady.com

    Blessings,

I have been stage IV for 3 years this month.  I have just been pulled off Herceptin as it is not stopping the tumors in my lungs from growing (worked well on my liver).  I have been strongly considering going raw and vegan (all organic).  As I am waiting to see if I qualify for my 2nd clinical trial (and my 5th different treatment), I am hoping to find others who have gong this route and find a support group.  I am so weak now from catching the swine flu then pnuemonia, that I have already found a doctor who will work on building up my strength through supplements (since my oncologist doesn't).  I gave up meat & chicken for a month when I had the flu and I really didn't miss either.
