Struggling
Hello everyone.
My wife has just had her 2nd lot of AC (and Avastin - trial).
Both times she's been ok for around 12 hours after getting home, and then the vomitting starts. 4 times over around 8 hours. She has the Kytel and about 3 other anti nausea therapies before and after treatment.
Our main concern, is this vomitting is inhibiting the work the chemo should be doing in her system.
Are we right to worry, or is this normal?
Thanks so much.
James

Hi James. I am really sorry your wife is having such a difficult time. Her vomiting will have no effect on the chemo. She does, however, need to stay as hydrated as possible. Evidently the anti-nausea meds she is taking are not a match for her. Speak with her onc and have the meds changed. They have Emend, which is suppose to be pretty good. They also have one that has not been out too long...Aloxi. They administer it about 30 minutes prior to infusion and it is suppose to last 5 days. Another thing that you may want to look into is Seabands. They are used for seasickness. They work on some and not on others. She can also sip ginger ale, eat crackers and take ginger caps in between her nausea meds. They just have to find what is right for her. Here is a webpage that has some hints and tips for going through chemo. You have to scroll a little. www.truefacesofbreastcancer.org/tips.htm
Sending healing thoughts to your wife.

Please get her Dr to give her the emend. I don't think I could have done chemo without it. I never got sick to my stomach...just wasn't hungry...no big deal. Most of the women who took emend say the same thing. Your wife should not be suffering this way from treatment....I'm so sorry for both of you.... Good luck and take care, P

Emend is amazing ~ talk to her onc. She pbly gets Aloxi in her premeds, but check on that as well just to be sure.

I took Emend also but got nausea (No vomitting) for the first 24 hours. Compazine worked REALLY WELL for the breakthrough nasusea.
-
Also had the Emend here, never threw up. although I was still nauseaus, and couldn't eat a whole lot, at least I didn't have that to deal with. I agree to check with her doc for some other med to help out. I also used Compazine in between.

Hi I also had Aloxi right before treatment, plus I used Emends for 3 days each time. I never got sick that goodness.

Agree with the rest. Talk to her oncologist. They have lots of meds now for nausea. I took Emend and a couple of others. They also gave me an anti-nasuea med in I.V. drip form before chemo started. Don't wait...call the hotline number they gave you. Don't wait until the next appointment.

VickiG,
You did great this far. I'm worried sick because this is my second breast ca with 11/30 nodes positive. I'm only 33 and I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with my second child. They can't check for distant mets because of the pregnancy, but I don't have any complains anywhere else, tho I do have slight difficulty in breathing, which could be my bronchiol asthma which seems to get worse during pregnancy. I'm greatly worried, depressed and looking people like you for inspiration. thank you.

What kind of chemo did you have the first and second time? Did you have mast. the first time? By removing the other healthy breast, would it reduce the risk of developing a new primary?

When you had your first diagnosis did you have the mastectomies then ?? I am triple neg with clear nodes and the onc. said not chemo needed, I had bilat mast. and only microcinvasion. I would love to hear from you.
