Greetings!  I am new to the board but not to breast cancer.  Had my first diagnosis September 4th, 2001 .....it was DCIS....after much debate decided on MX(right side) with reconstruction...had an implant because I am a diabetic and choices were limited.  The path report post MX showed DCIS in several locations so I made the right choice.  Declined the Tamox which my doctor didn't push......re: all the side effects.  I have been under super close supervision all these years....lots of MRI's and ultrsounds, several FNA's and biopsies....so much so that I had begun talking to the surgeon about a prophylaltic MX on remaining side. Felt like a ticking time bomb.....and I guess for good reason cause just diagnosed with DCIS on that breast.  Surgery scheduled for 3/3  MX with expander reconstructuin and an opportunity to fix the other side which seems to have deflated,  At first I was shell shocked!!!   Now i am getting myself prepared...after all have been through this before, although I am now 7 years older........will be happy to be done with all the testing and anxiety.  One thing that troubles me is putting my family through this again...I have 3 children and they worry so about me, my husband also....it hurts me to see this, yet of course I cannot eliminate it or minimize it.  Would love to hear from others who can relate....Made some friends my first time through the boards and we are still close to this day....No reason to go it alone.................

    Hi Marcy

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this all again.  Although we know it is always a possibility, when it actually happens it is such a terrible shock!

On the positive side, it is a relief that they have once again caught this as a pre-cancer, and although it cannot compensate for having yet another MX, it is better than if it was an invasive recurrence of your first.

Sending you, love, hugs and strength,

    Nikki xxx

I will be praying for your strength and that of your family. I am so relieved that it was caught so early and that your life is safe. Not to mention the fabulous breast you will be sporting for the rest of your life a very long life.

    Hi Marcy,

I am a 7 years later girl too. I was first diagnosed in May of 2001. Had a recurrence on the lumpectomy scar site 1 month after 8 rounds of chemo. Subsequently , I had a wider lumpectomy and had a year of chemo. This time I have inflammatory bc. Hopefully, this was caught early. I have had a clear pet scan. I had my first chemo March 17-Taxotere, Carboplatin, Herceptin. I am supposed to have 3-4 rounds, then a mastectomy.

I understand your feelings for your family. I hate that my husband has to go through this again with me! It was such a stress last time as we had just had a baby. That baby is now 8.

Would love to hear back from you.
