Can anyone tell me if after a lumpectomy they have had to have chemo??  Until a few minutes ago, I thought I would be having radiation for 5-7 weeks.  Now I am hearing different information in regard to treatment, I have just recently gone to this site, and found so many amazing woman.  I am interested in any info at all.

    Hi Allie,

Sorry you had to join this sisterhood....but we are here to support one another. I had a lumpectomy and did have chemo 4 x TC and I also had radiation. It really depends on a few thinks the size of the tumor, your age, the stage, etc. They will be better able to tell you once they've done the lumpectomy.

    Good luck

    Hi Allie:

With Her2+, you should be getting chemo.  Even though it kind of stinks in the short term,  it gives you a much better long term prognosis.  I am happy we have it available.  I did 6 cycles of TCH.  It wasn't that bad.  I got tired, but never sick to my stomach.

Being newly diagnosed is very stressful, but it does get better with time.

    Good Luck.

Allie, I hope your surgery went well yesterday. How are you feeling? So sorry you have to join this group.

I would be surprised if your onc. does not recommend chemo/Herceptin. Studies have found that Herceptin works synergistically(sp.) with chemo for a better outcome.

You have high grade cancer as well which puts you at higher risk. Are you node neg. or pos.?

Good luck with your tx decisions. It's all so overwhelming at first.

    Hi Allie -

I agree with the others...from what I've read and seen on here, being HER2+ you will most likely have chemo.  I had my chemo before surgery and my treatment was 4 AC followed by 12 weekly Taxol w/ Herceptin.  It is not fun but it is doable...and it WORKS.  My tumor, which started off somewhere around 3.5cm, was virtually non-existent after the chemo.

Hope your surgery went well.  I just had my lumpectomy on 1/9 and re-excision for clear margins yesterday.
