Kris- glad the drainage has subsided ('bout time, huh?!)

What, pray tell, is "tp-ing"?? Toilet-papering was the only thing I could come up with, is that it?

Wendy- good for you getting a girls' night out! I could use one of those... the way things are going my next one could be July 12-15.

Sherry- Clean those headphones with alcohol and be sure to take regular breaks to reduce the risk of moisture. Dunno if your headphones are causing the problem, but they definitely could be helping it along... bacteria love moisture and darkness...

Julie- have fun at your conference!

Joan- yes and yes to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam!

Tina- wow! That was fast... Congrats on having the house under contract. Fingers crossed for a smooth closing. Better start packing!

Patty- YIKES on the nightmares! Hopefully, your dreams this week will be filled with nothing but black and gold and a SB trophy next Sunday!

D1- loved your Inauguration Day report.

Your dd's bball coach has definitely got a loose screw. Dang!

BTW, look for our thug photo on FB ;)  Good idea taking our LV trip planning over to FB-- if everyone agrees, I think it would really be easier to keep up with the details there than searching through this thread... we'll see what everyone sez...

Kimberly- yep, I could "see" that pic as well. It sounds absolutely breathtaking!

So, I get a homework pass, eh? Thanks, teach!

    Deb- love the new signature.

Carol- you got that right-- where did the weekend go? In answer to your church question, I go occasionally, but haven't been for a few weeks. Dh and I used to go regularly before his cancer came back this summer... but I still do the church bulletin-- have done it for years... it only takes about 20 minutes to copy at the church after I get it ready here at home.

Gotta get my mindset in a better place to go back to work tomorrow. Ed's sister is going to be here with him in the morning, so I'll be able to skip coming home for lunch tomorrow. (we live about 5 miles from my school)

Kathy- bring your man to Vegas with you! You won't be the only Jewel with a mate on hand. I remember when our kids were little, dh and I would grab every opportunity for some adult alone time. More power to ya!

Alrighty then, better get ready for tomorrow... Nite all! Paula

Happy Sunday night, Jewels! Just hanging out at my sister's house tonight - she's an hour closer to my conference site, so it saves me an hour drive in the morning to come stay here. I spent about an hour up at school tonight getting things ready for my sub over the next two days. When I got here, they handed me a Smirnoff and we've been betting on horse races all night - with their money, so I'm having a blast!!! (getting ready for Vegas, of course!)

Just thought I'd check in real quick before heading to bed to see if there were any new posts since I checked earlier tonight. WOW! It's been busy here today. I'll have to read through all of the posts when I'm more awake. Not sure if I'll have Internet access at the hotel or not, so it may be later in the week before I can check in.

Kimberly - I'll check out Mandalay Bay - haven't been to that one yet. BTW - couldn't find you on Facebook - do you have a pic posted??

Battery's about dead on the laptop - better get off before I lose this. Hope you all have a good start to the week.

First of all, mumayan, I wasn't trying to be unwelcoming, I just was asking if you may have accidently posted on the wrong thread as I wasn't sure what you were talking about. It sounded like you were in the middle of a conversation with someone. I apologize if I hurt your feelings.

Second of all, ladies, just a quick post as I'm off to school.  I've read through the posts and will have to come back tonight to respond.  Jules, I do have a photo on Facebook.

Have a good day ladies, and I'll chat with you tonight.

Hey jewels, Just a couple of quick notes.....

Sherry- not sure if it is related but when I got the Taxotere, alot of my skin blistered the first time.  Turns out months later that I had blistered in my ears too and pulled a big chunk of dead skin out of each ear.  My ears have been better ever since.

And I'm sorry but it was a page back about the eyesight change so I can't remmeber who was talking about it.....  I never thought about it possibly be caused by "straining" but I am struggling to get a pair of glasses I can see out of again.  Using readers and an old pair to get by but the new ones I just got are not going to work so back they go on Friday.

Oh, and the Flamingo was recommended and seems kind of reasonable,  It is in the middle of the strip and near the fabulous (and probably expensive) buffet at the Bellagio.  Just one to check out.

    Catch ya later!

    Well, hey there, Kathleen!

I thought the same thing as SIS Kimberly (that you'd posted in the wrong place). I don't think I've seen you on this thread before, so didn't even think that you might be talking about our Vegas soiree.

Anyhoo, the more the merrier! If you're interested in joining us, perhaps we can get acquainted? Tell us a bit about yourself-- I checked out your profile and see that you've done a mast and chemo, and still in rads, but past the halfway mark.

We are still very much in the early planning phase of our trip. Just watch the thread and you'll get all the scoop as it happens!

Look forward to hearing all about you...

Tried to post earlier, but the site went down and I lost it all.  Poo!  Basically wanted to say I checked out Mandalay Bay, and it's got my vote!  It looks awesome.  Dh checked out some rates from Southwest Airlines leaving Philly and they look reasonable.  He also said he's been to the Flamingo.  It's nice, but not "flashy"; it's one of the older spots.  The pool is definitely not as cool as MB's "river", but he said Flamingo has an okay casino right there.  So it might be a decent cheaper option.

Also, as I am not a FB member, I won't be able to check posts there on the vaca if we switch to that site.  Maybe someone could just keep me up-to-date via e-mail if we go there?  Gonna post before this goes down again.  DE is calling for snow tomorrow night-- not thrilled since I have to work late.  TTFN!

What a day! I told my students last week that they had that week to get their acts together as far as work completion, or this week they'd start getting notices sent home. They get two warnings...and then the 3rd would be a Disciplinary Pass to the office for defiance. Three strikes and you're out! Tickets are great for the kids that are doing their stuff. The others do not seem to be phased by not getting tickets for HW completion. I wrote 17 warnings in each class today. That is more than ½ the class for not doing their HW. How hard is it to print the agenda off my website, make sure the two vocabulary pages from last week were done, and do a pre-reading activity and read a story out of our text, an assignment I gave them a heads up on last Tuesday so they could get a jump on it? Geez.

They have to bring those warnings back signed tomorrow or face further consequences.

    I'm tired.

Deb- So far, there's no place only dates...July 12-15th.
I'll keep you posted on what the onc says to me and you do the same, OK? I'm sorry you're taking pain meds for your legs. Mine aren't that bad.

Shoot and eyes, too? I've noticed that as well. I have to use readers when I didn't a few months ago. I know the docs will say it is because I'm in my late 40's , but why so suddenly?

Carol - I'm having my labs done this week for hormones too. I see my surgeon and plastic surgeon next week on Monday, so will have the results then. I DVR's Oprah, too, but haven't yet watched it.

I'm not surprised at the toxin issue after the massage. I sometimes forget to drink enough water, too. I haven't had a massage in weeks. I need to get back into the swing of doing my more regular massages. I'll have to look at if massage is covered or not under my insurance.

D1- Planning our trip via Facebook would be difficult if we can't create a group wouldn't it?

So, did you get an estimate yet from the other contractor? $6000 seems like a lot, but then again, I don't know how big the bathroom is either. Have the tiles been chosen?

Kathy, glad you found my bolding a good idea. I forgot on my last post.

WHoohoo on the almost potty trained young man.

What a great idea for a study, and wonderful that you and the dh are participating.

I am feeling better today. Finally. Hope you've picked up the last cold of the season. Getting one right after the other sucks. I agree the old immune system is getting a workout.

Kath is doing pretty well. She had a little melt down last week, but got it all out for now and feels able to better cope with all that is happening is her world, and not just radiation coming up, but work, pre-menopause crap, and dealing with not having all the energy she wants after her surgery. We all know that feeling, don't we gals?

Paula, glad you had a relatively restful weekend and have the peace of mind knowing Ed's sister will be with him while you're at school.

So, moving over to FB sounds like an idea you're interested in as well. I'm on board as long as everyone has an account set up, and there is a way to track everything in one place. I haven't used it enough to know what I'm doing.

Kathleen, duh, you were talking about our trip to Vegas. I'm sorry. Like Paula said, since we hadn't seen you on the thread before we were confused and thought you'ld posted here accidentally. Do let us know about you.

OK, caught up for the evening.

    Just a quickee ...

So I adorned the Big Girl Panties (BGP) after work and went in for my blood draw.  I seem to be getting worse rather than better with getting poked.  I ended chatting with the tech (told her about the BGP being shared with my on-line friends !!!  She got a good laugh over that one.    So I give any of you gals that did not have a port for your infusions credit, I am so not looking forward to mine next week.  Can we say Lorazepam ?!?!?

Lastly, Sis Kimberly, don't tell me we're going to be needing those gold chains on our readers !!!   I'm getting where I need too many pairs laying around so one will be handy, Shucks !!!

    Til next time ... Carol

Okay, gang, just a quick post to share what I learned yesterday.  I spent the day on the phone, calling LV resorts.  Looks like MGM and Mandalay Bay are the only two with lazy rivers.  I got a decent room quote from MGM, but after talking to my travel agent sis, I'm going to head back to Mandalay for another quote.  Seems if we get 10 rooms, we are a group and can get group rates.  So I'm going to check that out.  I'm also going to try a technique my sis passed along and see if I can negotiate an even better deal.  I always figure the worst that can happen is they say no.  Only problem with MGM and Mandalay is that they are on the end of the strip--I've stayed at MGM before and the walking really isn't a problem, you walk down the strip on one side and back up on the other.  But if that's an issue for someone, you need to speak up.  Planet Hollywood is dead center of the strip, but the pool area is on the 6th floor of the hotel and in comparing the description of that pool with some of the others, it sounds like an afterthought.  I'm also thinking I'll ring up Bellagio and Venetian to see what they can do for us as a group--no lazy rivers there, but the pool space sounds like it offers greenery and lots of different options.

Not sure I'll get to this today--I'm hoping to finalize my senior night program and get it to the printer.  But it's on my list to do!

    Shouts later, too.

    Hi all,

I'm so bad - haven't done my LV homework yetUndecided but a big Thank You to everyone who has done their homework! I've been to LV so many times growing up, but only a few times in the last 10 years or so, in any case, my only requirement on where we stay is that it have a day spa on site or be in close proximity to a hotel/resort w/ one - other than that, I just want to meet/see everyone. But, since I don't want any 'warnings' from the teachers in the group, I will get started on my assignment today! LOL So far, though, the Mandalay sounds good & I've seen the pool area at the Bellagio, which is very nice, but have not seen the pool area at the Venetian.

Tonight is the Get Started meeting for the Komen3Day! It's out in Fort Worth, which is about 15 miles away, but there is supposed to be freezing rain this afternoon & tonight, so it might end up being rescheduled. My concern is being able to find any training walks during the week. Since most people in the real world work during the week, I'm not very hopeful. My sister decided not to do the race w/ me - her & her dh had signed up a few years back to do the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society marathon walk & she said it was too hard to raise double the $$ required to participate, so only her dh participated. She did say she would help me raise the funds & train w/ me & be there to root for me - so all is not lost.

    As D1 put it - G2G!

    Talk at y'all later...

Hi Jewels -- home early from the Conference due to really crappy weather!!! Schools are all off today and we've got another band of snow/ice/sleet coming. I went to the all-day workshop yesterday - AWESOME!!! I'm so excited to start "playing" with all of my digital photos -- the workshop was on "Photoshop Elements" which is a program specifically designed for editing personal digital photos -- my dh already ordered the program and I can't wait till it gets here!

My colleague and I had decided last night that if we woke up this morning and had all of the snow/ice we were going to get, we'd go ahead and stay and give them time to get the roads clear, but if there was more coming, we wanted to get home before it got too bad. They're calling for another 3-6 inches of snow/ice through midnight tonight -- I know, Norma, that's NOTHING for you!! The additional teachers scheduled to come from our school today didn't come either. SO, unexpected day off for me today!

The roads were REALLY bad on the way home, though, so now I'm fighting the start of a migraine from the stress of driving for 2 hours in it. My car is stuck about half-way down our lane -- I just kept sliding no matter what I did. Ds came out and tried to push me further, but it just kept sliding. Dh went into work today to try to catch up on some things so I called him and told him we can just deal with it when he gets home.

I have lots to read from the last day or so -- hope to catch up and be back on tonight. Heading to bed for a nap right now to try to ward off this migraine!

    Stay warm, Jewels!!!

Sounds like the Vegas plans are moving right along.  Mandalay Bay sounds pretty cool but I haven't checked it out yet.  I am also not really a pool person so matters not to me on that.  I am more interested in the buffets and saw the one at the Bellagio on the travel channel over the weekend.  I am so there! (at least once).

I also am not a FB person but will try to set it up and see how it goes.  I may be another one that will need to be in the email loop.  Especially since I am thinking about getting the touch I-Pod that I can check email with anywhere there is Wi-Fi.

We are waiting to see if going to shut down early since ice storms here last night, today and tomorrow.  Mostly up north of us so far but supposed to be coming our way.

SISKimberly - Will give you a shout out after my appointment Friday.  Be well.

    Hope all are doing well.

So, I got all of my warnings back signed today except for one in each class. That's fabulous!!!!  Only one parent was upset, but only because he was told by his child there would be detention involved for not having handouts printed from the website for this week. I never said that. Only a signature needed so parents know there's a problem with homework not being done.  He says, "I'm online looking at the website and there are no handouts."  It clearly stated on the agenda there were no handouts for this week. Students only needed to print the agenda and have the HW ready for Monday as outlined in the reminder regarding last weeks assignment.  I emailed him back and soooo wanted to say, " So, I find it interesting that this is the first I've heard from you all year after two Progress Reports and a Report Card showing your son is not passing my class. It appears that being held accountable is what is unacceptable and required contact." I didn't.  I did offer him a meeting time for Friday, but haven't gotten a response as of yet.  Geez, the apple apparently doesn't fall far from the tree as the work isn't important to the kid either, only that he got the warning and had to get it signed.

Carol- I have glasses everywhere.  The Dean at our school was out to dinner with all the people who wrote the application for the California Distinguished School award, and he had forgotten his glasses, so I loaned him mine.  Purple artistic pattern...hysterical.

I gave my blood today, too, for my visit next Monday. Fingers and toes crossed that I'm in heavy duty menopause.  One more month, and I'm at a year without a visit from dear Aunt Flo. WHooHoo!!!!  Last Feb. was a little spotting and that's it, so I figure I need to get through this Feb. to count a full year.

D1 -  You Rock my sister friend! An A++++ for you. Going way above and beyond on this assignment!!!!  I was going to mention that once we settled on a few choices to call directly and get the group rate, so yeah for the travel agent sister's sharing of the knowledge and travel agent secrets.

I do not mind walking. It's good for us, and a lot of times you can get from hotel to hotel via shuttle if walking is too difficult for some.

Therese - Glad your sis is still willing to train with you and help out with the fundraising for your 3Day.  The Mandalay does have a day spa on site from what I can recall of the information I looked at, so that aught to meet your needs...I'm into the Day Spa idea as well. Pampering all around, please.

Sherry - Look at you all technologicallly plugged in. Awesome.  Nugged? Poked? Hmmm, haven't figured that out yet.  Sounds like the job is going well. I'm glad for you. How are you feeling?

Jules - I'm so glad you got home safely. Driving in snow and ice is just so scary, and not always because of your own car not cooperating, but other people driving crazy.  I love going to conferences that really give you stuff you can apply right now. It really makes you excited and rejuvinated, especially this time of year.

Deb - Another technologically advanced Jewel. Having the touch I-Pod to check email can't be any more complicated than Face Book.  Like anything, it just takes playing with it to learn what it can do, and I've not played with it hardly at all yet.

I have to say that I've been thinking that eventually, I'll want to move away from this site and continue to keep in touch in a non-cancer related way, and FB would be the perfect way to do that in my opinion.

All for now my shining Jewels...Have a great evening.

Thank you to my SP for the goodie boxes filled with yummy treats. It actually arrived yesterday, but dh had put it in the dining room and I didn't notice the box until last night. All of the boxes were decorated with smiley faces-- it was the perfect pick-me-up! I'm trying to be nice and share with my family, but I'm tempted to hide those JellyBellys... dd has her sticky fingers in the jelly beans right now!

We had snow and ice and school was cancelled today. Dale and I worked on scholarship apps for a while, did some laundry, read a little, and wrote a 50 item test for one of my classes.

We already have a 2-hour delay for tomorrow-- it is sleeting outside right now and the roads are a mess. Wouldn't be surprised if school is cancelled altogether again... we are under a flood watch again and more snow/sleet is expected thru the night.

I've spent quite a bit of time on Facebook uploading pictures, which is surprisingly simple. I've got over 100 pics up and it didn't take long at all to accomplish.

Sherry- I think that whole poking thing on FB is overrated, don't you? LOL

Even though I've embraced the whole FB thing, I can understand that moving our LV discussion there might be prohibitive (is that a word?) to some of our group. Although, like Kimberly, I like the idea of continuing our friendships in a non-cancer-related venue.

D1, could we post the trip details in your header (or whatever you call your post at the top)? That way it would be on every page. I don't suppose anyone has gotten sentimental about seeing all of our treatment info, have they?! That would keep those who don't want to get into Facebook "in the know"... whaddaya think, Jewels?

Kimberly- I have the same problems with some of the kids in my classes. Sometimes it takes that phone call home to get them back on track... sadly, that doesn't even work for a few. It is frustrating-- seems as if I spend a lot of time trying to motivate kids who don't want to be motivated...

Just read about your good results-- except for the one parent with the 'tude... there's one in every bunch!

Julie- glad you made it home safely! Looks like you're going to get hit by this latest storm coming through...

Deb and Therese- you're both in the middle of the bad weather, too. Stay safe out there!

Carol- I think we might need another pair of BGP... these are getting a little threadbare from all the use they're getting these days! I thought about you today out there in the cold weather. Hope you're home relaxing by the fire this evening.

Okay, I took the JellyBellys away from dd and now I'm going to have to go put them up before I eat them all...

    later! Paula

Yeah - we're hunkered down here in north Texas - it's sleeting right now w/ the temp at 28 degrees. Honestly, I love this kind of weather, probably because it remains a novelty to this old California girl. My kids came home on cloud-9 today - dd#1 was let out early, unbeknown-st to me - I was out grocery shopping when she tried to call me at home - of course she forgot her cellphone so she didn't have my cell # w/ her - anyhoo the bus brought the middle schoolers home at 2pm (instead of 4:30p). Luckily I had just pulled up into the garage & was unloading the groceries when I heard the doorbell ring, ring, ring (of course, she left her spare house key in her backpack - which she left in her locker at school). I was a little freaked out b/c she is only 12 in my eyes - while in her eyes she is already 12 1/2! What a difference perspective makes, eh? The twins on the other hand were released at their normal time - 3:15p. Needless to say they were a little miffed that they had to stay the WHOLE day at school! They got over it once they realized there were icicles forming all over the plants outside. I now have an extensive icicle collection in my freezer, along w/ some hail from last spring.

I'm enjoying the FB thing, although I have to admit I find it somewhat confusing. It's like listening to 10 different conversations at the same time - kind of like the dinner table at my house every night!

Wish I had some JellyBellys to munch on right now...

    TTFN

Hi girls -- we already got the call that we're out again tomorrow. Dh is driving home as I type from a day of catching up at the office -- I'm hoping he makes it home okay. Should be interesting to see if he can get into the lane!! It's been sleeting well over 12 hours at this point. Therese -- sounds like you're "enjoying" this junk a little more than I am. Wink I actually don't mind it as long as I don't have to drive anywhere in it. Hoping we can have a nice quiet day at home tomorrow.

I checked out the Mandalay site -- very nice!! Looks like it has much of everything we're looking for -- I don't mind the walking either. Still need to chat with dh about it all. Great job on your homework, D1!! You put the rest of us to shame -- that's what we teachers call the "overachiever" of the group. The students in the class call that student a "suck-up"!! Tongue out

I'll try to do shout-outs tomorrow -- have a cake in the oven right now -- I know, so domestic!! ha ha ha

    Stay warm, all!

Very funny, Julie! We used to call 'em "brown-nosers" back in the day...

I liked the looks of Mandalay myself. I've never been to Vegas and I don't mind walking. Don't care about the gambling. My only experiences w/ gambling are a couple of visits to the dog track and on a cruise, so I'm too green to feel comfortable throwing out money-- although I did have fun at the slots! I'm more interested in the pool and the spa.

I'm just praying that dh responds to this treatment and things improve... I know that his prognosis isn't good, though. So, even though I'm planning for Vegas, I don't know if I'll be able to come.

We see the oncologist tomorrow for bloodwork, then chemo on Thursday. I'll be looking for an opportunity to discuss hospice with his onc, but I just can't do it in front of Eddie. If the onc thinks it is time, then we'll talk about it. Or rather, I'll talk and he won't be able to tell me how he feels... F#$% CANCER!

Sorry for the blue mood-- it just popped up out of nowhere. Thought I'd throw myself a little pity party and get it off my chest. Think I'd better break out the jelly beans again! I just took a lorazepam, so maybe the brain will shut down and I can sleep here in a bit. Good thing I don't have to get up early!

Okay, I'm posting to myself now... We have a snow day again today. It's icy right now, but supposed to get a bit of snow on top of it this afternoon. I'll venture out in a couple of hours and drive dh to Charleston. I have to shop for groceries while we're out and I know it will be a crowded Hump-Day at the market-- we are like pack-rats here when snow is in the forecast.. gotta get the necessities-- like tp, right Kris?!

    Stay safe, stay warm!

Welcome, Shannon7! Never too late to join, but we might not be the group you're looking for, since we're a year out from our diagnosis. Several of the Jewels had the T/C regimen. There's even a thread on breastcancer.org just for T/C gals. I haven't looked, but I'm sure there's also a thread for gals who are starting chemo in Jan 2009. Best wishes to you with your chemo!

Whew!!!  I got my senior night program (all 28 pages worth) to the printer at 7p last night.  Spent the entire day chasing down a missing photo here and there and missing copy.  School got out at 12:30 cuz of the weather (I think we'd had, oh, and inch and a half of snow-what pussies in Northern VA!), so tracking these kids down was a feat.  I sure learned a lot about who likes my dd!  I'd identify myself as dd's mom and some of the kids would go, oh yeah, I LOVE her, and others would just grunt into the phone.  Kids are so funny.  I felt just awful for one girl.  From her bio I gathered that she lives with her aunt who was verbally abusing the girl-loudly-during our entire conversation.  The girl would shout profanities back at the aunt without even covering the mouthpiece of the phone.  How on Earth do we let children get in to situations like this?  I'm sure this girl is VERY anxious to get off to college...  Just a reminder how lucky I am.

Anyhoo, I have to go back to the print shop this afternoon to approve the proof-I'm hoping they clear our roads a bit by then.  It iced all night long and you can't move around on it.  Dh went to get the paper this morning and stepped onto the driveway and proceeded to slide all the way down to the street.  I don't know how he managed to stay on his feet.  I, of course, doubled over in laughter, unfeeling wench that I am...

Upshot-no school here today, either.  So thought I'd pop by and do my shouts and maybe get to calling some resorts (sounds like I should start with Mandalay Bay-or maybe I'll start with another one, just to work my patter out) while I'm homebound.  Yoga's cancelled-boooooo-but my MLD massage at 3p is still on, so all is not lost.  I'm also going to try to convince dd to help me make a vegetarian lasagna for dinner, just to teach her how to make one.  (Oh yeah, I'm high fiving myself because I went to the grocery yesty before it got ugly out there and bought all kinds of fruits and veggies to have fun with today.  Much better than eating junk when you're cooped up in the house!)

While I'm talking about eating, I need to report that I seem to have shaken one of the four remaining pounds I want to lose.  You'll all recall that I'm trying to get back to my pre-dx weight and there seems to be four pounds that are stuck.  Unfortunately, the menopause thing has rearranged my body a bit, so no matter how much weight I lose, my waist is a bit thicker than it was pre-dx, so none of my old pants or skirts fit.  I really hate shopping so this is a big problem for me.  My college girl (who LOVES/lives to shop) says it's about time I shake all of my clothes from the 80's.  I'll get to it, eventually.  Luckily, my summer play garb is in good shape as I had to accumulate some stuff for cation last summer, so LV, here I come!!!  Maybe I'll even lose that last three pounds before July 12!

Speaking of July, KathyL, you and I both have anniversaries around the Jewel Junkett.  Yours is the 8th (right?) and mine is the 17th.  We'll just sandwich the Junkett in there.  It would be great to have him along!  Oh, I'm reading your post.  Your day is the 8th.  I'm going on 27 years, how bout you?  WoooHooo to ds for almost completing his potty chart!  I imagine the bike is a great incentive.  Oh, and I really like what you and dh are doing with your couples' study-it makes you feel good to give something back, doesn't it?  You guys getting this ice?

Oh no, Paula!  Surely you're familiar with tp-ing!  You're right, it's toilet papering.  I did it/had it done to me a few times in high school.  It was as naughty as I got.  I'm sure Kris was howling with laughter with those kids!

You remind me-I'm good with looking in to room rates for us, but not so keen on figuring out excursions to Hoover Dam (amazing if you've never been there.  Our favorite expression from our tour guide was when we were all making "damn" jokes amongst ourselves and he said, "leave the damn jokes to the dam professionals."  Hmmm.  Guess you had to be there.  Seemed funnier then.).  Anyway, if someone wants to step up and figure out excursions, that would be great.  I'm thinking we'll need transportation, too.

Speaking of transportation, I haven't given it a lot of thought, but I was thinking that I would shuttle/taxi to the hotel and not rent a car.  Everything I can think to do is on the strip and I can walk.  Maybe Patty, our LV expert, will have some insight on this topic...

Ah ha, I see Julie's not only brushing up on her gambling skills, but she's also working on her alcohol tolerance!  I can tell I'm going to be woefully unprepared...

Deb, you remind me to address the vision thing.  You guys may not remember, but I had horrendous vision issues with chemo.  Every time I went in for an infusion, my eye rx changed.  I gave the LensCrafters 30 day guarantee a real workout as I got a new pair of glasses every month the entire time I was doing chemo.  After about 6 months following my last tx, my eyes had changed enough that I needed new glasses again, and now, another 6 months later, I've just ordered another new pair.  I haven't been able to get back in to my contacts as my reading vision is still pretty messed up.  I can read a book with my contacts and reading glasses, but I cannot use the computer.  I'm thinking my contact days may be behind me.  It's hell to get old...  But just sayin' that the chemo can wreak havoc on your eyes.

SISKimberly, thanks for mentioning the water drinking to Carol.  About a month ago I decided to try to drink 2 liters of water a day.  I get out a .5 liter bottle and fill and drain it 4x.  I think that might be how I lost that sticky pound this month (hopefully the other 3 will follow suit), AND it keeps the toxins moving in my body.  One thing I'm discovering is that after I do MLD (whether with a person or in my machine) I now have to use the bathroom immediately afterward as the MLD, combined with the extra fluid in my body, moves the lymph through my system more efficiently.  So, drink your water!

Maybe FaceBook isn't the place for us to plan.  I hesitate a little in putting it all here, in a public place.  Maybe when we get our details nailed down, we should use email or something.  As you know, I haven't disclosed my identity on this thread, although I don't hesitate to do so with you guys in more secure areas.  Personally, I'd like to keep a modicum of privacy.  Does anyone have an idea on how we can communicate effectively, but maintain some privacy?

Good use of the BGP, Carol.  I have found that I'm worse than before when it comes to needles, too.  Not sure what that's all about.  Before your infusion, hydrate like a crazy woman.  It will plump up your veins.  And then ask them to put a heating pad on your arm before they look for a vein.  Fifteen minutes should do the trick.  If nothing else, I always appreciate the loving up that routine represents and it keeps me from ripping the elastic waist off the BGPs!

Thanks, Therese, for the review on the Bellagio pool.  I've only read reviews and looked at their website (which of course makes it sound great).  I'll keep Bellagio in the mix for now.  Besides, I think Deb is salivating down there in Arkansas over their buffet!

Sherry, remember to take off your headset periodically and give your ears a break.

So why am I not surprised that Julie is learning all about photoshop???  I could have used you while I was working on my program when I discovered this kid or that missed the group photos.  Rather than photoshopping the kids in, I just used multiple pictures.  So the kids that go to practice everyday are in all of the pictures.  I think they deserve that, anyway.

Deb, how can you be an iPhone person and not a fb person???  Hey, good luck on Friday.

Oh my, blushing, an A++++!  I was always such a suck up.

How disappointing to learn that you have parents with as little interest in education as the kid, SISKim.  You have to continue to do the best you can to engage and hope that somehow, something will spark for that kid someday.  Hold your head up.  It may not happen while the kid's in your class, but the cumulative effect of caring, dedicated teachers will get to those kids eventually.

Paula, your fb is incredible!  I haven't even been able to look through it all.  One of these days I'll have to put more stuff on mine.  I just haven't made it part of my routine, yet.  I seem to go in spurts.  I like what you all are saying about moving on from bc and staying connected as friends, though.  By the end of this, we'll have all the Jewels on fb-yes, even KathyL and Deb!!!

Oh, you saw my comments about privacy.  While posting in the header is really a good idea, I hesitate...

Carol, if you're going to run out and get us some new BGP, as Paula suggests, can we get something racy?  I never wear racy stuff and maybe if the BGP are a little on the steamy side it will give us one more thing to focus on, instead of the needles and whatnot...

Therese, I smiled when I read the post about your dd making her way home after early dismissal.  They do grow up quickly, don't they?

Lol, there's Julie, calling me a suck up.  You're just jealous.

    And Paula-a brown noser!

Okay, FUCK CANCER.  Paula, it sounds like the hospice discussion is due.  You know that Ed will want you to do what's best for your whole family.  From the relationship you describe, I can't see how anyone would do any less.  I'm sorry you guys are at this point, and I continue to have hope.  We're here for you.  ((((((((hugs))))))).

I've spent too much time on this already today.  I'm going to fill my coffee mug and read the paper.

I'll let you know how my travel agent hat wears!

Hey!  We've got the ice here, too.  I'm supposed to be working from home, so I'll keep this short!

I'm on FB also, but don't think it's necessarily a good thing to get details of the trip mixed up in there!  And I'm with D1 - maybe we should get an email chain going so that we don't broadcast our details to the world, if you know what I mean!!  I'm not much of a trip planner, and I don't know anything about LV so I'm letting the "experts" do it - it sounds like some you know a lot about this sort of thing, and I'm grateful!  I love to walk, and normally that would be no obstacle, but won't it be like 110 in the shade in July?  Yes, it's a "dry heat", but it might make us not want to walk quite as much.  Just a thought.  I also understand that there are shuttle busses up and down the strip pretty much all the time, so I'm thinking it won't matter anyway.

I can't keep up with everyone's activity, but just want to send hugs and prayers out to Paula.  We're with you, girlfriend!

    Gotta go - CHJ

Ok, I'm just learning but can't FB be set up to only include a certain group of people?  Then details wouldn't be available to everyone, just the group?  MySpace was also recommended but they say it is about the same.

And while I AM salivating for the Bellagio buffet, I doubt I would be able to afford to stay there.  Mandalay Bay is looking better and better and I don't mind walking, just a little slow some times.  I have also heard that there is a shuttle that runs in the area that is like $5 for a 24 hour period.  Sounds good to me and eliminates need for rental car.  I am figuring we are not all going to be spending 24/7 with each other anyway.  Sounds like there are a variety of interests like trips and dinners and gambling or no.  Will be nice to have a central hub and meeting place though.  Think it will vary with what different people can afford too.  As for me, a nice hotel is great but I don't plan on being in the room much so as long as is clean, I am ok.  Would rather spend my money at the outlet center and the slots.  YES, I am a "slot puppy".   Surprised

Just my 2 cents and you know how much that is worth. Tongue out

Love ya all and every time I get a quarter in change, I am thinking of this trip!

Good afternoon from snowy New England,  just wait a minute it'll change.  I do not have a facebook account as af yet I have a hard time just keeping up with this site, but if all are going to move I'll give it a try.

Mandalay bay llaaazzzyyy river sounds like my kinda river!  I'm trying to talk dh in to coming at the begining or the end of the and stay a couple of days with me as our anniversary is mid June and its #22 so were ready for a trip for us.  I'm thinking if i go I will book a solo room so that will help with the getting a group rate,  I still have to check out the Mandalay site and check airfare rates. Which I will do today since I took a snowday from work it's 1:45 and still in my jammies nursing a headcold as are some of my SIS.

Paule sending thoughts and prayers to you as always.

Just a funny thought we were talking at work laughing about using the phrase "back in the day"  kinda funning hearing it used here.  LOL and round here we called them kiss a$$!

Carol good luck with the infusion I thought we were all pretty much done with s#&t just drink plenty of H2O it really does help.

WVgirl good idea on letting them know the reason for our visit I was thinking the same thing.

I agree with possibly moving off the site, it may also help us try to move on from BC best we can and maybe we will all just remain friends that have helped each other and been through a very difficult time together.  Just a thought.

Well suppose I should get in the shower and put on real clothes dh is due home soon and I don't want him thinking this is all I did today.

    FUBC!

    THINK SPRING!

Hey girls -- just playing on the computer during my SNOW day today and I just created a "January Jewels" group on fb. I kept it as "Closed" so the only people who can be in it and see what's being posted are those who are invited or request to join and are accepted.

If you have an fb account and I missed you, just send me a request and I'll add you to it. I sent invites to all of the Jewels that I already know are on fb. Already had one join -- right now it's just me and Jenn!! Hopefully there will be more to follow.... Just do a search for the "January Jewels" group and it should come up.

I'll get back on later and try to catch up here. We spent 2 1/2 hours last night digging my car out and getting the lane cleared. Didn't get back inside until after 1:00 a.m.!! I'm thinking I might need a nap today - my eyes are burning right now.

    Later!

    Jules
