hi girls
yes i had a dbl mast too ! i didnt want to worry about mammos sonos or MRIs my breasts were so dense and the mammo didnt even pick up the large tumor that was in my breast so for me i didnt even consider keeping the other one i did also get symetry or as much as possible
it is a personal choice and one of course that you really need to live with really think it out and then go with what you decide

Hey girls!!!! I'm back in business!!! The doctors said I did wonderful in surgery and feel they got it all. I was overnight at the hospital, but got up twice to walk around, and got released today. I start chemo next week sometime, but my sister can't believe how much better I looked when I got cleaned up compared to when I was in hospital
-
Bethie, so glad you are home! Thanks for checking in and letting us know how you are doing. Rest up and then get back to us.
-
Yes, I need some shut eye at this point. got woken up every 4 hours last night at the hospital.
-
Congrats Bethie...that's great news. Good luck with your first chemo. Although so completely unpleasant, it is do-able. Wishing you the best,
Kimf

Hi Bethie -
Just saw your posts. I am a fellow Stage 3 girl and from the Albany area. I was diagnosed this summer and am just finishing radiation. I have had a bilateral mast, chemo, reconstruction, hysterectomy/oopherectomy and finally radiation and tamox (will go to femara in a few monhts). I am 39 years old (well, will be 40 in a month!)
PM me (just click on my name and to the right you will see "send a private message") if you would like to chat, have questions or would just like to talk.
Mary

Jenn that is awesome!!! I'm maintaining a 3.2 at Maria College in Albany, but withdrew from my economics class to get better. Where are you going for nursing? Maria is a big nursing school here. Talk to ya later

Hello to all the oldies out there. I realize newbies will look here, too, and you are more than welcome to jump into any and all subjects that float in here. Originally the hey girls was just to catch up with us old timers that were dx'd 3 - 5 years ago. We don't all frequent the boards any longer, so therefore, the post.
Today I'm updating it with a hello to everyone! It has been way too long since we last all connected and I wanted to see how everyone is doing. Many of us are on facebook, which is awesome, but not everyone. I'll start...I'm doing GREAT! I don't see my Onc until January, but last I knew NED was still my best bud! I've had some depression issues with menopause, but switched meds and am hoping for the best. Menopause stinks but the hot flashes are so much better than before. I have gained weight, like most women seem to, and I don't like it, but am dealing and trying to be more active and eat better. The family is great. All are healthy. The flu has not hit our house yet, but is in the kids schools. I'm coming up on my 5 year cancerversary in December and am happy to pass that milestone!!!!! My Onc uses the end of treatment as the 5 year mark, but I'm using my dx day. That's the day I became a survivor! How is everyone else? I know a few of us have passed on and others have progressed, but those of you still lurking in stage III, fill me in! Miss you all and pray for all of you here daily. Kimf

Hi Stage III Sisters,
I am still NED, as far as I know. I still see my onc every 4 mos and have an appt to see her this week.
Life has been a bit crazy here at home. My dear daddy has been in the hospital for weeks fighting for his life. He has a number of issues going on physically that we are hoping and praying he will recover from. We welcome any and all prayers for healing and recovery for my dear poppa.
My kids are great. My DS is graduating HS in 2010. I never thought I'd be here to see this! I am so proud and excited for him. We will be getting college apps filled out here soon. My DD is in 8th grade and is a terrific student and has a great circle of friends. We are so thankful that our kids have survived and thrived through my getting sick. They are sweet compassionate kids.
I am in the finishing stages of my foobie recon. I will be having tattoos to finish up the nipp recon. It doesn't make me forget what I went through, but gosh they look really good considering! Nice for wearing clothes and not using the prosthetic foobie.
That is it it in a nutshell. I am sad to see new faces in our club all the time. I hope that I can be helpful and encourage others through this horrible experience. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Hugs,
Lexi

Hey Lexi! I can't believe your DS is graduating..where did the time go? And DD is in 8th, same grade as my Peter. Tough age for boys...not looking to when my dd is that age...ugh! So sorry about your Pop. I don't know if you remember two years ago when both my Daddy and my FIL were hospitalized in the fall/winter, both with very serious illness, and today both are thriving. There is always hope. I will pray that he gets well soon.
Congrats on finishing the "process". I did the lift finally this spring but didn't do the tat. Not sure I feel up to doing anything more with these buggers...just glad to have something there that's healthy! Here's to healthy boobies!
Great way to put it, too, Lexi, so sad to see so many new faces to this forum. So sorry you all have to go through this horrid journey. Please keep the faith. Our friend Mary Anne always said/says (bc I know you are here MA) "Fists Up" everyone!
-
(((((Sherri))))) That is awesome...congratulations friend. I am so happy for you! I can't wait to pass over that mark in December. My Onc counts from the end of tx as far as survival rates etc., does yours? I don't discuss stats, just that she is looking forward to my crossing July 7, 2010 and then will feel like we kicked it HARD to the curb...but I count Dec 16...Glad dd and ds are doing well! oxoxo
-
Lexi, Your Dad will be included in my prayers.
Kim, My current onc counts from DX; however, I began TX at Mayo and they count from end of TX. Therefore, since I began the clinical trial with Mayo, they dictated my appointment schedule and I had the six month schedule for a while longer, but am now only going once a year.
Sherri, agree with the early detection comment. I had annual mammos every year and my lump was discovered during a routine one already at stage 3. My doc had mentioned having one a few months earlier, but then noticed it had not been a year and said we would need to wait for the insurance to pay for it.
Hugs to all,
janie

Hello everyone! I was reminded to get my butt over here and check in.
I will be so ready for 2009 to be over. I'm doing great health-wise. It's just the personal crap that is sucking. My husband got laid off in late March. He attempted a commission only job, but not a good year to be selling home improvement projects. He started a new job at the first of September. He's a little bummed because it's back down the ladder in pay and position.
Early detection -- right on. Our local Komen had a theme a couple of years ago about early detection and stopping Stage III & IV diagnosis. I couldn't contribute or anything with the way they worded that. Idiots.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday!
-
Hi Stef !!
Good to "see" you! Now that you've been here to update...get your behind over to Facebook and create an account!
Love ya sistah!
-
Yeah Stef! Get on Facebook! You too Sherri! Happy Holidays to everyone! Be safe and merry, but most of all healthy! I wish everyone healthy boobies!
-
Happy Holidays to all my S3S and all the wonderful ladies on this board. I wish for you peace, happiness and good health today and for the coming year. Bless all of you,
Kimf
-
Stef....good to see you here......Kim....I second what you say. I hope everyone's holiday is special and full of happy memories. Wishing everyone good health and good news in 2010. Karen
-
I'll second your wishes Karen.
Bugs & Kim, I'm still refusing to get on Facebook. LOL Maybe one of these days.
-
Girl..crazy stuff...I was JUST thinking about you! Send me an update email, k?
-
Come on Stef...you CAN do it! FB is the bomb! I fought it, too, ask Bugs, but now I'm so addicted! And in addition, Karen, Linda, Carol and lots of S3Sers are there! And mostly it isn't about cancer...whew!
-
Yes, come to FB we have cake
-
thanks for the encouragement.
