I am so excited for all of you.,...and jealous. I want so much to be there. My brother lives in Elkridge MD. Today I'm at the labs for echos of everything and bloods...prep for my follow ups in March and May. Then we leave on 4 Feb for Philly...my mom's 90th birthday party. We already bought the tickets.
Truth be known, I doubt that I can sustain the energy. I'll leave that for the young folks. But I'd give it the old college try if I could.
I'm so happy for all of you who can make it there.
Best wishes to all,
-
I hope this place is on the subway. I'll be coming from work.
-
Nancy - could you post the address for the restaurant? If you want to send it via PM, go to the top of this page where it says "My Home" or "Private Messages" - either one should take you to the page where you can create a PM and send it to me and/or roseg.

Does 6:30 on Wednesday, Jan 21 sound ok?

If you get off at the King Street Metro, there is a free shuttle trolley that goes down King Street. I think it runs every 15 minutes. You get it across the street by the bus shelter in the parking lot. Pitt Street is where the pub is, to the left, next to Ann Taylor's. Ask the driver to let you know when you get there, maybe 8 blocks or so. Then you can take it back up to the metro station when ready to leave.

you ladies have a wonderful time, now i am kinda wishing i was going, if for no other reason than to get together for dinner.
-
Yes, have a great time, all of you who are so lucky to go! If you have time, this sounds like a great new Smithsonian exhibit to check out:
Washington -- More than 60 objects from President Abraham Lincoln's life are going on display at the National Museum of American History days before President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, which will echo themes from the 16th president.
"I think when you see all of these pieces, you will see a different Lincoln -- a more intimate look," Rubenstein said. "It also helps to make the mythic Lincoln come to life."
The exhibit, "Abraham Lincoln: An Extraordinary Life," opens today and features the top hat Lincoln wore the night he was assassinated. Other items include his office suit and Mary Todd Lincoln's purple gown, signs from the 1860 presidential campaign and casts of Lincoln's face and hands. The gallery also includes pictures from Lincoln's inaugurations in 1861 and 1865.
"In some ways, it's an exhibit we've been working on for about 140 years," said curator Harry Rubenstein. Lincoln's top hat was the first of Lincoln's belongings to come to the Smithsonian Institution in 1867, though it was hidden away for 26 years.
Your Guide to Smithsonian Inaugural Events and Featured Exhibitions
This is the first major Lincoln exhibit at the Smithsonian in about 50 years and the first to gather all the museum's objects together in a single exhibit, curators said. It was planned for the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth in February.
The exhibit will be on view for at least two years in a gallery near the "American Presidency" exhibit.
Another temporary exhibit opening today features documents on loan from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Illinois.
A rare signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, on loan from Washington businessman David Rubenstein, also is on temporary display. -
Wow is it cold. I hope you visitors to my city keep warm.
-
Oh, please post pics if you get good ones!!
I too wish I could be there. Have a fab time meeting for dinner and all the celebrations going on.
It will be a blast I'm sure. ladysuz--what an awesome adventure for you kids. Wonder what it will be like from their perspective? Kids seem to get to the truth or realness of something quickly. I think it would be wonderful to watch their responses to what they see and hear. Such a historical moment--something I'm sure that will be told to their children and grandchildren! Have a great time.

The place looks good to me. 6:30 is good.
The last I saw it'd be up in the 30s, but overcast. Bundle up!
I think it'll be really exciting for you. Originally the change of leadership was held in March, but they moved it up in modern times as the waiting left too much drift in the country. With the cold like we've got I can see why the Founding Fathers thought spring was a better time to be traveling around to DC.

Mornin' Suz...
-
I'm with those of you who are going to stay close to a TV and a working bathroom...I figure it will be just as historic for me in my sweats with a mimosa in my hand as it would be on the mall freezing my tata's off!
Nancy, it's a good point about the gloves...even though our metro is clean compared to other places...there are going to be TONS of people from all over the country and world coming in here with germs our systems are not used to...since most of us have compromised immune systems for one reason or another, a little extra precaution that day could keep your trip to DC limited to the sites and not the ER's...locally there is a stomach flu going around and I'm sure NO ONE wants to be puking while they are here!
I personally don't plan on driving on Monday or Tuesday...but for those of you meeting up and witnessing the events...good luck, be safe and smart...and have fun!
-
I live near a subway stop and a bunch of hotels and I fear if I leave my house I won't be able to park again. But still, glad you are all coming. This is a great city.
-
And if you've never been here before, try to visit the Lincoln Memorial. It is one of the most moving experiences you'll ever have. I always get a chill and teary-eyed.
-
i am with bonnie watching in my sweats and mimosa in hand but can't wait
to see pictures of our sisters "on the ground" .lol
motc - my husband's co. shut down their d.c. area offices friday. he says don't lose that parking spot or at least sell it...lol.
-
My husband's workplace (one of the largest community colleges in CA) is shutting down for the morning and asking students to come to the Conference rooms in the campus center to watch the inauguration ceremonies. Wow! I was surprised by that. Usually a few classes would watch something like this--but to invite all the students to join together. This united idea is making its way across our nation. The young people will really have a wonderful experience to tell their grandchildren about! Amazing, wonderous, chills down my spine experience!!
I'll be watching, in my sweats with my mimosa in my right hand! So I can type with my left. Hee-hee!!
-
I am packed and ready to go! I have my ear-muffs, scarf, gloves, and camera.
Nancy and Rose - I can't wait to meet you in person.
A friend sent me a link to this "Yes We Can" music video - perfect for getting in the mood for Tuesday. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjXyqcx-mYY
-
I made a reservation for a table for 6 ppl, under the name "Economy" --- just in case the place gets busy. The guy said it was the only reservation so far that night.
Have a safe trip, keep warm and ENJOY. See ya Wedneday around 6:30 p.m.
-
Did you gals arrive in DC ok? I saw some on TV and it looks like it will be very lively with the bars allowed to serve alcohol till 4 am.
-
I will watch it on tv. The crowd is sure to be HUGE! I figure I will not miss anything on the television, just like being in the front row.
-
Summer, I love the "she-roes", can I borrow it?? This thread is way wider than my screen. Trying to get to the next page and back to normal.
-
Great!
And the weather seems to have improved just a bit.
-
Have a blast, my friends. I'll be watching TV just in case you'll happen to be on it! *lol* Don't forget to post some pix OK?
Hugs,
Fumi
-
Sure lefty, you can keep it.
-
Oh.My.Goodness.
I spent the day in DC, and I am exhausted! It's a "good" kind of tired - my face is wind-burnt, my feet are achy, but after a long hot shower, I hope to feel revived.
I had my leotards under my jeans, a t-shirt under a sweater, a scarf under my trench coat, all topped off ear muffs and gloves. But the wind is formidable.
The feeling of excitement and happiness in the air is truly amazing. I talked to so many people from all over the country today - the conversation would start because someone like my pin, or I liked their hat, or simply because we were crowded together in front of the White House, or seated next to eachother on the Metro. It was like being part of one huge, happy family!
My friend and I did manage to get in the whoooohoooooo crowd behing Keith Olbermann, so that was cool, but I don't think you would ever be able to find us in the crowd. If I had more energy, I would post some cool pictures, but I am ready to pass out and tomorrow promises to be an even longer and more challenging day.
See you Wednesday, Nancy and Rose.

12 hours and counting.....
-
Donna, don't forget to wave!
-
Whooooooohooooooooooooo from DC!
I went to the Mall this morning, but ended up watching the ceremonies in the lobby of the Marriott with a bunch of HAPPY people.
Rock on! -

Donna, sounds very smart to watch it from the Marriott a little warmer and closer to the bar. President Obama wants you to stay warm. I am just sitting here typing the word President Obama whenever I can!
Oh Happy Day! MAJOR PROPS TO YOU being there!
Stay warm and give Rose and Nancy a hug from me...!
