well I have cancer....at 36 yrs old......... I have IDC stage1 boderline stage 2 in all 3 masses. Left breast. My Sister at age 34 also had breast cancer IDC Stage 0 as well as my 3 maternal Aunts.Same type as well but one had stage 3, All survived. I opted to do the DNA test to see if in fact we have the BRCA mutation in our family. For I have a 17 yr old daughter I hope and pray she NEVER HAS TO GO THROUGH THIS EVER!!!!!!!! Because of my strong family history I opted to do Mast. on both breast as well full hysterectomy. Same as my sister chose.

My Dr. is still testing my biopsy to see what they are going to respond to and Chemo I'm not out of the woods on that yet.

What kind of use will I have with my arms? How long?

Plan is Simple total mastectomy First week in Feb 2009

if any cancer is found in nodes during surgery then Dr. said I will get modified radical mastectomy and chemo is 100% in my recovery plans.

How is this going to affect my sex life will I be interested?? Chemo/hysterectomy Ya know after I heal and all? Since I don't know what menopause is like what is it like in that area? My man is so sexy and just could not imagine not being interested in him in that way....that bothers me a lot among other things all mushed up in my head right now....

Sorry you had to join this group but welcome anyway!

I am a bit older than you - diagnosed at 39.  I have had a bilateral (left side prof) with immediate expanders, then chemo (dd ac + t), exchange surgery with full hyst (and ovaries out too) and am now finishing up radiation.  I was stage 3 due to node involvement :-(

First two weeks after mast are tough - mostly because of drains.  You are not supposed to raise arms over shoulders while drains are in.  My hubby washed my hair for me!  There were days I did and days I didnt want sex during chemo.  Havent hit the 6 week mark on hyst yet but am determined to try to restart things as soon as the doc gives the go ahead!

How many years survivor is your aunt who had stage 3?

    Best of luck to you!

I was Diagnosed in March 2008 at the age of 33.  I have a Son, that was only 7 months old at the time of my dx.

I  had 2 Lumpectomy surgeries to my left breast, with 12 Lymphnodes removed. (Negat

Although I have no Family history, it was recommended that I go for Genetic Testing due to my age.  I tested POSTIVE for BRCA2.

Knowing of my BRCA2 results, I declined Radition and opted for a Bi-Lateral Mastectomy with Alloderm & Expanders. (Permanent Implants to follow in 6 months).

I had my Bi-Lateral Mastecomty on Dec 5, 2008.  it has only been 6 Weeks, but am Pleasantly Surprised with how quickly my body & mind have bounced back.

Unfortunately, I recived my Pathology results back on Dec 22, and apparently had Cancer in 9 of 22 blocks removed.  My Surgeon is concerned that there may be residue left behind in the remaining chest wall, and she has recommened that I have Radiation.  I met with a Radiation Onologist last week, and he feels that the Margins might be ok, and Radition not necessary.  He is taking my case the pathology review board to get his collegues opinon, and I will have a firm answer within 2 weeks.

Now I have to spend 2009 screening and disscussing a Hystrectomy because of the BRCA2.

I absolutely want another child, but certainly not if my life depends on it.

Hi, I was diagnosed in April 2008, at that time I was 26 years old and 14 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first child will turn 3 in March. I had a lumpectomy and was diagnosed with stage 3 with 13 positive nodes, I am also er+/pr+ and her2+. I had genetic tests done and i am BRCA1 positive. I went thru a chemo while pregnant. In august I gave birth to a healthy boy. After that I had more chemo and I started Herceptin. I finished chemo before Christmas and I started taking Tamoxifen at the beginning of January. Next week I am having bilateral mastectomy and then maybe radiation depending what the path report shows. I am also having my ovaries and tubes removed because my mom, grandma and aunt died from ovarian cancer.

I know I want to do reconstruction. I will most likely do an implant but I would love to hear from someone who has had tram or free flap.

I was 25 when dx with breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy on my left side. Margins clean as well as nodes. Everything was neg. for hormones and all that. I went ahead and had chemo and radiation because i was so young. I went through a period where i would not even let my husband touch me above the waist. I can admit now that i was afraid that he would find another lump. It took a long time to get over that. I don't think the chemo effected me in the bedroom. Radiation was another story. I was very tired during my radiation and started taking naps with my 18 month old. I did have to drive an hour one way to get my radiation and that did add to the tiredness, but radiation was alot harder then i thought it would be. My breast was very tender and felt like it had the worlds biggest sunburn on it. I was very uncomfortable during that time. After all was done though life went back to normal quickly. I am now 31 and doing great.

I am 40.  I had mammogram October 1st 2009 because of indent in left breast.  Yep, it was cancer.  ( Only 11 months before I had a clear mammogram. )  It was growing fast.  I'm er+/pr+ and her2+   I had lumpectomy and 14 out of 23 lymph nodes had cancer.  I finished 4 cycles of AC and have completed the 4th of 12 of Taxol and I'm on Herceptin, due to start radiation in june.  I'm not sure how this web site works, but I would love to talk to someone with my similar situation.

April - I am sorry that you had to join us!

I am 39 -turning 40 in a few weeks.  Was diagnosed as stage 3 just 6 months after clean mammos!!  Sucker punch!    I am done with treatment now - had dose dense ac and then taxol, then radiation and am now on tamoxifen and zometa.  My hair is about an inch long (my daughter calls it my super model look!) and I am feeling well for the most part.

Feel free to PM me (click on my name and then hit send private message)
