Jan 2008--Ain't it Great?

Good Saturday morning Jewels,
I'm still hacking and coughing, blowing my nose, and squeaking with little voice...but it's a three day weekend, so lots of time to rest.
Vettegal- Wow, you'll be the first to do the hysterectomy. I go in to talk to my onc. about my discussion with the surgical obgyn on the 28th, so I'll be scheduling mine as well. I'm thinking that I should get this done right after the Jewel Reunion in July.
Sorry, I'll be rooting for the Ravens since they are the underdog team...I always root for the underdog.
Wear your thermals to work, then when the boss says something about your ‘attire', explain that you don't have a choice since it's freezing in the warehouse. A space heater under your desk might help. They make some energy efficient ones. I couldn't work productively in a place where I was freezing by toosh off.
Therese - How exciting to be doing the 3 Day next year...and I see Cathy and Carol have already given you lots of good info. Appears all is well in your world...so good to see you/all of us moving on...even it isn't moving back to the 'normal' we anticipated.
New is good, Jewels,...challenges force us to grow...'like we haven't been pretty challenged enough.' I can hear you all saying. True, but moving to a new normal is a much more pleasant altermative to what we were doing last year at this time.
Paula - Good news all the way around for Ed's potential positive response to this new treatment, and for your test results. NED is GOOD!!!! I use a Mac and Windows for Mac, but I don't have that issue with messages about fragments...hmmm.
Thanks for reminding me to share with D1...I've seen Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, The Eagles, Celine Dion, Josh Grobin, Michael Buble, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Tina Turner, Dave Mathews, Crosby, Steels, Nash, and Young, Manhattan Transfer (my first concert), Hootie and the Blowfish, Smokey Robinson, Lionel Ritchie, Maroon 5, Carol King, Eric Clapton, Santana, and a few more I can't recall. I love going to concerts, so a show in Vegas would be OK by me.
I mailed my New Years letter to Jenn with a personal note asking her how she's doing, but don't think Jackie is on our address list.
Kathy - I'm impressed that you were able to do all you did not being able to see very well. It's that mom thing...we can do anything that needs to get done for our families.
Is the eye thing a possible se from chemo or Herceptin?
Normal? What is that?
CathyCA- Isn't our weather just crazy nice for this time of year? Sure could use some rain though, or we are going to be in a world of hurt come summer.
On your treadmill in the mornings...good for you!!!
I agree we have dates July 12-15, now we need a plan. I think one show might be fun, but lots of time to visit sounds more like what most of us want to do. Hanging out in a nice pool area, walking and talking, ect...
I'd prefer a Chinese cooking class to port removal, too.
You're right, it really was just part of me, but the whole flushing every 4 to 6 weeks was just another appt., so crossing that off the list was good.Jules - What's up with your school not getting to stay home and your ds getting to stay home? I can't believe the cold, rain, and snow some of you guys are getting.
Deep breath where school is concerned. In this tight budget climate administration is probably not making choices about money/sections/staff that will please everyone. Hang in there.
Haven't heard from Kris. Hope all is drained, and she's just really busy.
Tried the link, but I have to create an account to see anything.
Carol - You hit the treadmill, too? Good for you! I've not done anything this week, but one yoga workout. I hate being sick. Oh well, next week, I'm back on the exercise wagon.
CHJ - Yeah, who is in charge of the winning slot machines? Sign me up.
Tina - OMG on the temp in Minnesota. Dang, girl. Colorado is going to seem down right tropical in comparison.
Met with Kath and her new Onc THursday. Love her onc !!!! She was very thorough, drew pictures, hugged, and is adding us to a genetic study. She's doing the oncotype test on Kath's tumor tissue as I pointed out it was strange that my ERPR percentages were so much higher than hers, and the onc said that caught her attention as well. That test will redo the ERPR status and show if Kath needs chemo or not. We all doubt it including the onc, but she wants to be sure.
Since both our oncs are in the same office, I said, Dr. Gowda never drew me pictures or hugged me, and the receptionist laughed and said, I'll put a note in your file "Kim required pictures and hugs". LOL When I see him on the 28th, I'm going to ask if that notation was made to see what reaction I get from him.
Kath met her radiologist, yesterday, and likes her a lot. She'll do 30 zaps. She won't start until Feb. after the oncotype test. She said she would have ordered the test if her onc hadn't.
So, we should know something thee 29th.
All caught up. Off to finish the last class set of Story Analysis projects, so I can get them back to them next week. Progress grades are due the 26th.
Have a good Saturday...and D1, I know you are busy preparing for the big event in D.C. Thinking of you. How's he Wellbutrin doing for you?
SIS Kimberly

Hi Jewels…hope the weekend’s starting out well for everyone. Therese is probably on duty this weekend, hope work’s going well. We are finally above 0 here – hurray! We were out and about earlier, as we had a few people coming by to see the house, it was 19 degrees – a blooming heat wave!
Jules, sent you a friend request on facebook. Couldn’t quite get to your profile/pics with the link.
Carol, sent you a friend request, too.
Paula, are you using Microsoft Word? Do you try to “preview” before the “submit” – if so, do you see the fragments then too? Sent you a friend request, too. Goodness…I’m assuming the middle name listed on your profile is your maiden name? Are you related to Chris?
Tina -
Kimberly- sorry to see that you're still sick. Hope the weekend gives you time enough to recuperate!
Tina- LOL... dunno if I'm related to Chris... but the Farley clan has been in America for almost 400 years, so probably. My ancestors settled in southern WV around the time of the revolution and intermarried so much with the handful of families that were here that I'm actually related to MYSELF! I can turn up a Farley in practically every branch of the old family tree... If I were a dog I could be registered as a purebred! Fortunately for my IQ, no close relations married. I always tell my kids that they need to head north of the Mason-Dixon when they get ready to choose a mate, though...
-
Paula, I won't be going to Vegas. Just not my cup of tea.

Happy Sunday!!
Not much going on today, I was off today. I like my new job, but the phone is off the hook, I'm so busy and can't think sometimes. But love the job, I'm also a cold Jewel, it's freezing in MI and keeps on snowing. We got another 2 to 3 inches yesterday and the wind blew hard, snow blowing everywhere. Miserable to be out in it, every morn you wake up to -5 or -8. I think the high was 20. That is warm compared to what we have had. Keep warm jewels.
The trip sounds wonderful to be able to go and meet and hugs Jewels. I don't know if I will be able to go or not. If I can't make it, I want to see lots of pic posted.
Paula, you cracked me up with your post, you are so funny. I'm glad Ed prognostis sounds promising. I hope he tolerates the treatment well. Good News on her test reports Yeah!!!
I don't know much about face book either, I can barely keep up on this thread.
Vettegal Good luck on the Hysterectomy. I had one 15 years ago, it's a rough one. I know you will be ok. Go Steelers!!!
Sis Kimberly You get around, you can been to a lot of concerts. I have been to a few, I used to go to plays a lot I used to really love them. I have not been to one in years. I'll bet your loving the weather in CA. Go Ravens!!! I hope you get over your cold soon, I'm still hurting in my ear. I may have to go back to the doctor.
Therse Good Luck with the 3 day I know you will do just fine, it is such a great experience to walk to able to do a walk. Start training early.
Carol You are right, we had to get cancer to be able to wear really nice expensive bras. I also just learned the correct way of putting on a bra. I was so embarrased in the fitting room when the girl let me know I was putting on my bra wrong. LOL, I'm kinda experimenting on just how to get it right. I need to get a life.
Chj Go Ravens!!!
I'm sorry if I missed anyone and enjoy your weekend D1. I'm also curious about the Welbrutin, after not sleeping for the past few nights. I'm taking a sleeping pill tonight.

Happy Sunday,
It's a gorgeous day here in Poulsbo, sun is shining without a cloud in the sky. I'd like to complain that it's too cold to go golfing, but I won't dare with the friggin' cold weather many of you are enduring. Needless to say, I've found my spot in the recliner, football is on the boob tube "Go AZ", and I'll just enjoy the sun shining on my bones through the windows. Both dogs are racked out as well in the sun ... wow, have we ever missed this !!!
So I thought there would be some chatter between our Raven and Pitt fans this morning, aaahhh ... the calm before the storm !!!
CHJ, Trying to visit with what hopefully will be well over a dozen Jewel's will be an event in itself. For me personally, I think I'd be sidetracked hoping that my dh was having a good time, and trying to figure out my day/eve of meals, entertainment, etc. around what he would also like to be doing. Selfish on my part ... maybe so, but I'm assuming he has had his fill of this whole bc thing with me. I'm hoping that this get together will truly put that exclamation point at the end of this long journey.
Cathy, you are a exercise machine !!! No wonder you breezed through the 3 Day. I feel like I need to be jogging at 4.2 mph or faster.
I'm all for a group dinner for the Mon, Jul 13th.
Julie, I'm blaming you (just kidding) for encouraging me to look at your FaceBook pics. Talk about a snowball effect that website has !!! I actually had a blast yesterday playing with the site.
Paula, Tina, and D1 ... you all know what the heck I was up to yesterday!!!!
Kimberly, holy smokes gal ... who havn't you seen in concert?
Hopefully your feeling better so your able to enjoy a bit of your 3-day weekend. I had some kind of a quick crud Friday night and yesterday (unfortunately it hit my GI tract). Boy I don't miss those kinds of problems !!!
I have had a quick correspondence via e-mail with Jennifer just a couple of weeks ago. She has had a bit of a tough go as of late and unfortunately has not wanted to be a downer to the Jewels. I let her know that we are still hanging in there as a group, and at any time she is welcome to pop in to share as needed.
Sherry, stay warm my friend, time to snuggle with your four legged one !!! Enjoy the rest of your day off !!!
Boy, I think my dogs are on to something with taking a nap in the sunshine. My eyes are getting mighty heavy !!!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, Carol
-
LJ. I'm disappointed that I won't get to enjoy that marvelous wit of yours in person.
Sherry- putting your bra on wrong? Explain, please. I'm thinking that would be hard to do... What am I missing here?
Sitting here watching the Eagles get slaughtered. Dh is feeling better today, getting a few words out here and there (not always the ones he wants to say, but still...). If he continues to feel well this evening, I'm sure we'll be watching the Ravens-Steelers game.
Hope most of you get MLK Day off tomorrow!
Paula
-
Paula, okay I thought maybe it was just me trying to figure out what Sherry was talking about ... I was told to lean forward when jumping into mine. Like that is really going to do me much good !!!
Glad to hear that Ed is feeling a bit better ... the game is going down to the wire !!!
Later gal, Carol

Okay, I'm not very good at keeping up with multiple forms of communication, but my sister has set me up with Skype (still have to get the camera) so I can be one of her readers on Dr. Seuss' b-day in March. She's a librarian and is trying to get readers from around the world to read a story to her kids. Should be interesting...
Then my college girl got me going on Facebook-which I don't really understand, yet. I almost liked it better just juggling email and this thread!
Upshot, I haven't checked in here. I'm not feeling the whole going back thing, but I'll read through them.
Want to shout out to Paula and dh on the new rx. I'm not much of an expert, but it seems comforting to know that all dh's docs are on the same page with this one. I sure hope it does the trick without too many se's.
Also, got a pm from Patty, but I'm going to respond here so we can all weigh in. Sounds like the dates are firming up (unless I read on to find them changed). What I'd like to see us do is look into a couple of hotel options. It sounds like you have a great connection at Planet Hollywood and that's a great place to start. I'd also like to check on resorts that have one of those lazy river floaty things since it sounds like a number of Jewels want to be lazy and aren't big gamblers-maybe a place with more than just a pool (if the price is right) would be a better fit for this group. Just thinking aloud here. I've got a lot on my plate right now, but once I get past Jan. 30 (I'm planning senior night for our basketball, dance and cheer groups and it's stressing me out), I should have a little time to do some rooting around. We'll see if we can come up with just the right accommodation for all of our varied needs (so far I'm hearing casino, lots of pool time with some shaded areas, fitness center-okay, that's probably just me-maybe a show.) Does this sound right, you guys?
As for bringing guests, I've talked this over with my dh and he said if I really wanted him to come along, he would, but not to expect him to hang with us. To be honest, I would find it a little burdensome to balance his wishes with my own in this particular situation, so we've decided I'm attending solo. Whatever you all decide is fine with me, just reporting my own decision.
Oh, there's CathyCA, making some suggestions about itinerary. What about it, should we plan a few activities?
(I've been thinking about you, CathyCA, when I hear about the Boss at the Super Bowl! He was in DC today for the inauguration concert, but I had to take college girl back to school, so I didn't get to the concert. You probably would've told me to have her walk back to school and check out the Boss!!! JK-or am I??????)
Okay, I see us all being encouraging to KathyL about getting back to normal, but it really begs the question, what is normal??? And were any of us ever in that condition in the first place??? Just askin'.
Carol, I never get to veg by a pool, so you def have a buddy in me for that!
I like the idea of one group dinner, CathyCA. Would you mind looking in to that? I think Monday is as good a night as any (until we get the show schedules and figure out what's what with that). I suspect with a group our size that we won't all be attached at the hip at all times, but breaking off in smaller groups to pursue like interests. So a group dinner is good.
SISKimberly, I cannot believe how that cold is holding on! Hopefully the long weekend will give you a chance to rest and shake the darn thing.
Oh, since there were a couple of inquiries, the Wellbutrin seems to help my moods-at least I'm not a raging bitch (at least I think not). It is not helping with sleep, so last night I took an Ambien. It felt so good that I'm taking another one tonight! Not sure if I'll stay on the Wellbutrin as my gyn was going to research the info LJ found and we're going to talk about it later this month. Sigh.
Finally, the Inauguration plan. Looks like dh will go to work tomorrow as normal, but use Metro instead of driving. In the evening, I will Metro downtown (all dressed up with heels and all-I hate doing that on Metro!) and meet dh for a pre-inauguration dinner being thrown by the Oregon State Society. I plan to do some recon on Lewis & Clark College to see if that sounds like the right place for my dd. Then we Metro back home (and get dd to pick us up from the station because by then I am NOT walking the 1.25 mi. home in my heels-these are my "fuck me shoes," so it's a skinny, high heel.).
Tuesday morning, dh and I are going to get up as close to 3a as we can and take one of our cars to a Metro stop and park it there. The lots are opening at 3a and are limited, so we're going to do our best to snag a spot. Then we'll come home, get dressed and walk to the Metro and either subway or bus in to DC. Then we'll hike to dh's office, where I have to change in to office attire to hang out (I'm sending my outfit in with dh when he goes to work tomorrow). We're probably gonna hang in his office for the swearing in (it's right next to the Capitol building and has excellent views) and wait for the motorcade to pass by before heading back out for home. We are not staying for the parade, and unfortunately, it starts a block away from dh's office, so we can't watch from there. We plan to walk the length of the mall to see if we can find any appropriate inauguration memorabilia to buy. We catch a bus by the Lincoln Memorial back to our Metro stop and our car, waiting for us in the lot. Hopefully, we will be able to get on the bus! We're hopeful that we can walk the mall and get to the bus stop before the parade ends and the crowds start to exit DC en masse. It will be cold and tiring, I know, but we're all excited.
I hope you all are able to watch it on TV!! It's history in the making, baby!!
Hmmm. It's Miller Time. Later!

Hey Jewels,
Paula Carol is right you have to lean into your bra. I'm still trying to figure out how to fasten the stupid bra while bending down. I'm getting arthristis in my hands and arms. LOL. I can if I really try. I should look at it, like it's a excersize routine. Sorry about the Eagles, maybe the game will turn around.
D1 How awesome, you get to be there right in the middle of things, your post and always cracks me up. I would like to watch history in the making, but i'm working, I'm trying to decide if I should throw some hours back on Tuesday so I can watch, I can always work on another day. I had a customer from NJ calling me and going on and on how I should watch it, She was fun to talk too. Thanks for the update on the drug. I'm going to give myself more time and see what happens.
Carol You sound like you are snug as a bug tonight, I'm also heading to bed.
Sis Kimberly I hope Kathleen treatments go well for her and she don't burn up like I did.
Good Night all
-
Whew! That game had me worried. Happy that the Cards pulled off the win. Don't follow fb that closely, but I'm happy for this team since this is their first-ever Super Bowl.
Watching the AFC game now. I'm on the fence with this one... If the Ravens win, will it be the Battle of the Birds? Catchy, huh?
Carol and Sherry- lean over, huh? All these years and I haven't been tucking my gals in right...
D1- I'm sooo excited for you, too. I'll be watching and look forward to reading about your experiences. Have fun!
-
Paula I'm glad your team won. I decided to watch the auguration. I know my spelling has been bad lately. I'm sheduling my self a 90 lunch break, it's supposed to start at 11:30am EST. So hopefully I will see if before I have to log back on to work. I just hope he will be a good President and help everyone.
Good Night.

Yeah, it's a very sad day in Baltimore today. There was a glimmer of hope there for a while, but it didn't last long. We have the satisfaction of getting farther in the playoffs than anyone expected, but them's the breaks! Congrats, Patty! I don't know if I'll even watch the super bowl, but I imagine I'll have to root for Pittsburgh.
The Eagles/Cardinals game was really exciting to watch, too.
OK, I hear you all about bringing/not bringing the dh. I know what you mean, trying to make sure he's being paid attention to, all the while getting done what we're there to do (join with the Jewels!) I'm thinking that it will be better to some solo also. He would absolutely hate the heat anyway, and isn't one to go off and entertain himself.
D1 - I hope your inaugural plans go well. It's really wild, watching the plans on TV. The main thing is that you have a plan in case you need to "go". (HAHA!) We're laughing about the reports of them having 1 potty for every 6000 people. That alone would keep me from going downtown that day! I hope you have a great time. We'll be looking forward to the reports.
So, I met with my new onc on Friday. Yes! I like her! Since she considered me a "new patient" even though I had all my records there. She spent more than an hour with me going over every little thing. Awesome, compared to my first onc. Actually, she reminded me of the onc that I had back in 1994-1995 who was the best ever. I asked her about having the ooph, which is what my surgeon suggested instead of bothering with genetic testing. New onc. says if I come up negative for the genes, then my chance of ovarian cancer (my biggest fear) are really not much different than the general population. If I come up positive, then I'd want to consider not only the ooph but also having a prophylactic mast. Geez, so much to think about. She was very thoughtful though, just discussing options, not pressing. I feel very comfortable with her.
Lots to get done today, so I'll say bye. Have a great week, y'all. If you have a holiday today, enjoy!!

Happy Monday,
Patty I'm happy for you your team made it. Yeah!!!!
D1 Forgot to mention, that is so cool that you will be reading a story to the kids, I didn't understand if it was via internet. Sounds really cool, When my daughter was in kendergarden and preschool I used to go to school and read a story to the kids, it was fun. I think that's a good idea to check the colleges while in WA for dd. You should be able to see everything from across the street. WAY COOL. gtg have to work today, Sherry Have a good day Jewels.

Actually watched some of the big game yesterday. Boo. "Our team" lost.
-
Just a couple quickee's ...
Patty, although I was rooting for the Raven's, I do remember just how much fun it was to be on the winning side (too many years back though for our Hawks) ! I imagine there will be alot of wearing black and gold in the next two weeks.
D1, so you know some of us are living the moment through your eyes the next 24 hours. So no sleeping bags on the dh's office floor ??? I'll be setting my DVR for tomorrow ... as sad as it is ... out of the 12 guys I work with ... only 2 of us are Obama supporters. Hate to say it, (but I will stereotype), their political views seem to fit right in with the plaid shirts they sport. I actually think that the 2 of us are the only one's from Western WA (interesting). So although we may or may not have an opportunity to be in the office, I highly doubt my boss will want the tv on .... shucks !!! Have fun gal ... and don't let those heels get the best of ya .... in fact take advantage of um !!!!!!

Good Morning Jewels,
Happy Martin Luther King Day! I can just imagine Dr. King smiling and down right giddy about tomorrow’s big shindig. His dream has taken a huge leap forward with the election of an African American president…who happens to be a Christian with a Muslim middle name and represents the diversity of America within his own family tree: Kenyan, Irish, and other nationalities as so many of us do. This man is a symbol of what America’s Forefathers hoped for our future; ALL men (human) are created equal, and that our government’s job is to be for ALL the people, not just a minority of America’s population.
I’m English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh on my dad’s side, and German, French, and Italian on my mom’s side. How about the rest of the Jewels?
Tina, awesome on getting showings on the house, and in such inviting temps…19 degrees. Any interest shown yet?
I just created an account on Facebook, but honestly do not understand the purpose of this community? I know my students have accounts and that people sometimes use this to network, but other than that, is it like a chat room or some thing? How do I invite people as you’ve done? Like D1, I’m thinking, how do I keep up with email, this site, and now Facebook?
Paula – I’ve got to be on the tail end of this, don’t I? It has been eleven days. I’m still coughing up stuff, but now it’s clear, so that’s good. I’m still a bit stuffy, too. I’ve been getting lots of rest this weekend, so I’m hoping I kick the rest of this out of my system by midweek.
LOL on telling the kids to move north of the Mason-Dixon.
I forgot to tell you, I gave Kath the picture you sent her, and she loved it.
Bummer LJ13 on not coming to Vegas. It isn’t my favorite place either, but if the Jewels are going to be there, then I’m going to make the best of it…suspend my dislike of the adult Disneyland aura and just have a great time doing stuff together. Any chance you’ll reconsider…even if only for a night on your way to another destination?
Sherry – So glad you’re enjoying your new job. Working from home has to be a plus…no going out in that cold windy weather.
I also go to a lot of plays and musicals, and even the ballet sometimes. I prefer the more modern pieces to the classical. I was born into a family of performers…my dad was in a group called The Cumberland Three and also Saturday’s Children. Folk music. He met all sorts of people before they were anybody like Barbara Streisand, Lou Rawls, Andy Williams to name a few. When we were born, he had to give up the traveling around. He’s a professional photographer now. My mom played piano, danced, and was a fabulous writer. She went into education, however, and used her talents there.
Paula and Carol, yep, I too was wondering how one puts on a bra wrong? Don’t you just place the bras with the hooks in the front, then snap the back hooks, turn it around so the cups are in front, put your arms into the straps and your boobs in the cups? Leaning forward assures all breast tissue is in the correct location, I assume. I personally do not have to deal with bras anymore. Yippee!!!
Carol – Hope the tummy is feeling better. I’d prefer a stuffy nose and cough to tummy issues any day of the week.
Group dinner on Monday sounds perfect to me. Will we get double rooms and share to save costs, or each have our own room?
I’m so bummed that Jenn is having such a difficult time of things. I’m glad that she let you know how things are going for her, and hope your reminder that she can come here for support will spur her to login and post.
D1- How cool to be Skyped to read for Dr. Suess Day.
I agree with getting a resort/hotel with lots of options: more than one pool, a spa, workout area- yep, I’m with you there, gambling close by or in the hotel, a nice restaurant etc…
I’m not bringing my hubby, either. He hates Vegas.
You’ve been a busy gal. Your daughter’s school is lucky to have your talents helping them out.
I had heard that certain antidepressants counteracted Tamox as well during all my research. I’d forgotten until LJ13 brought it up. That was one of the many reasons I decided against it, I recall, since so many women reported needing to take antidepressants while on it. I hope you can get this resolved quickly…maybe an ooph, and going straight to an AI. Haven’t heard about women needing antidepressants on AI’s. Of course, if the antidepressants are needed to deal with the sudden drop in estrogen, an ooph will drop you there faster. Hmmmm, hopefully your body will adjust to the new low levels of estrogen soon. I’m glad your doc is on this one.
Sounds like you’ve got a good plan for the festivities both Monday night and Tuesday for the swearing in ceremony. Hold onto each other as you walk the Mall, with all those people expected, you could easily lose one another. Remember those harnesses and leashes for toddlers? LOL
Patty and CHJ – Glad your Steelers won, sorry the Ravens lost. I was liking Paula’s idea for a Battle of the Birds.
CHJ – Kath’s onc stated that the BRCA gene can be checked for sub-categories, I believe she called them, so she’s setting us up with the genetic specialist to get blood drawn from Kath, me, Terrie (our older sis), and my dad to have the BRCA redone for the more minute things. I’m thinking having my son involved may be interesting, too. Also, to compare our DNA in case there is another link they haven’t identified passed from father to daughter. Since Terrie isn’t my dad’s biological child, but all the girls share the same mother, she’s the control.
Glad you like your new oncologist. If my onc doesn’t laugh at my requesting pictures and a hug, then I’m switching. I need to know he’s got a sense of humor and is willing to meet my needs.
Well, have a great day ladies. I’m meeting a gf for lunch and to spend the day together. She just got back from a 42 day cruise around Mexico and South America. She’s been to the northern most and southern most points of the world just since June.
SIS Kimberly

Hi Jewels -- wow! Busy weekend for us! We have today off, but I'm still working on house stuff --need to get moving, so not much time.
Sorry the Facebook link didn't work -- I tried it with one of my other emails and I was able to view it without joining or logging in - not sure what's up. Glad to have some "new" friends on fb, though! Yah - my sister got me to join in November - I don't spend a lot of time on it, but have reconnected with many old friends and several extended family members that I haven't seen in a long time. It can definitely be addicting!
D1 - your plans for the Inauguration wore me out just reading them!! Hope all goes as planned - how cool you'll get to participate in such an historical event!
Kimberly - so sorry you're still under the weather - hope you feel better today and can enjoy your day off a bit.
As for Vegas - I'm up for anything - dinner, show, pool, etc..... I'll most likely be a "by the pool Jewel" with D1 and Carol!
Patty - Yippee for the Steelers --- CHJ and LJ - sorry about the Ravens. I was happy the Cardinals won -- still have a special place in my heart for Kurt Warner even though he left the Rams.
We didn't get to catch any of the games this weekend -- bummed me out but dh wanted us to "focus" on getting things reorganized for the remodel projects. We got what was the guest/storage room completely emptied out and started rearranging. It's now going to be our "network server" room, dh's closet, and storage. We had to completely redo our computer network which took several hours. We left here at almost 9:00 last night for a late dinner/movie -- saw "Gran Torino."
Well, better get movin' -- hope to check in later tonight if I can. {{{HUGS}}} to all the Jewels!!

Quickly checking in. I'm supposed to be working on Senior Night, but thought I'd procrastinate by stopping by here, first (and then I wonder why I'm stressed out).
Congrats to Patty and her Steelers!! They look pretty tough (since the Vikes are NFC, I don't watch a lot of AFC teams during the regular season, so yesty was my first good look). Condolences to CHJ and LJ... But I'm ready, bring on the Super Bowl!!!
Who on earth can hook a bra behind her back???? I'm in the group that hooks in the front and then twists it around to tuck the girls inside. Course, I don't wear a real bra much anymore and my compression garment (aka the Big Bra) is so big it has a zipper closure!!!
Sherry, I'm glad you can get away to watch the inauguration. And Carol, yep, set the Tivo. I can't imagine he'll talk more than 30 minutes and the ceremony is to start at noon, so I don't think it will be drawn out (could be wrong...). I just want to be a part of it. I liked what SISKimberly had to say about diversity and feel this guy could be a turning point for America. I sure hope so, we need a turning point on so many fronts in this country right now that I can't even begin to list all of them! With all the walking I'll do tomorrow, maybe I could consider it training for a 3-day!!!!!
I was thinking of dropping by the hospital today for a colostomy bag for tomorrow, CHJ!
Hip hooray that the new onc is working out! I really liked my onc early on, but once we got going I found him to be inconsistent with the level of attention he gives me. I know he's human and can often be affected by whatever happened in the exam before mine, but I was hoping for more of a warm, fuzzy relationship. I guess that's why I'm gravitating back to my gyn, who's been with me for almost 30 years. (I'm not liking him when he suggests that some things are happening to me because I'm getting old, tho!)
Oh, and I second SISKim's bummer to LJ. Would love the chance to meet you, but understand your feelings toward Vegas. I've been there three times, I think, and while it's not one of my favorite destinations, I do try to suspend belief and enjoy the spectacle. You can't get it anywhere else.
I'm glad to see your family is going to be retested for BRCA, SISKim. It's hard to believe with your family history that the bc you're all experiencing is just bad luck of the draw. I know that's possible, but I think it's prudent to be rechecked so you can all make better screening choices.
How was Gran Torino, Julie?
Oh gosh, I just got an email from one of the coaches about the Senior Night plans. I guess I should get on that.
Not sure when I'll have a chance for the post-inaugural report, but as soon as I can, I'll be on with the details!

Steelers M&M's THIS IS FOR YOU STEELER FANS
Pittsburgh Steelers M&M's
The Steelers Prayer
Our Father who art in Pittsburgh,
Football be thy game.
Thy kingdom come,
Five Super Bowls won,
On earth as it is at Heinz Field.
Give us this day, a playoff victory
and forgive us our penalties,
As we defeat those who play against us,
But lead us into victory
And deliver us to Tampa.
Amen -
Jewels-thanks for the warm steeler wishes,
BRAS- I still wear the sport bras. Who can manouver there arms to hook a bra? Not me.
I guess we have to be a contournist(sp?) to do any of that crap!!!
I did wear a strapless bra for wedding i attended for abut 5 hours.i wanted to take it off duting the dancing ....but i didn't want to scare anyone with the sagging boobs!!! lol
Gotta go..dinner ready, vetteguy cooks again...lol

Hi Jewels -- I'm posting some before/after pics of the first room we've redecorated. We took what used to be a small family room area/casual dining and made it one big family room. Hopefully you can tell in the pics -- it's actually one big straight room, but I had to take two separate pictures and combine them to show both ends of it.
Before:
After:
The craziness continues -- here's what my basement looked like yesterday! It's not quite as chaotic now, but certainly nowhere near done!!
-
Wow, Julie! I love it! That basement room has a lot of potential from the looks of it... amazing how much STUFF we can accumulate, though, huh?!
CHJ- glad the new onc. is a keeper! Sorry about the Ravens. I was all for a Bird Bowl, too!
Patty- so I guess I shouldn't mention that I kinda favor the Cards (for the same reason I mentioned last time-- their first Super Bowl). Congrats to the Steelers. Ds is a Roethlisberger fan, so I know who he'll be rooting for! A house divided...
Kimberly- loved your comments re: MLK. Well said!
I'm so glad Kath enjoyed the pic. It was just a little thing to remind her that we're all pulling for her...
I guess D1 is sound asleep by now, since she's got to rise-n-shine early to start the big day. I may teach health occupations, but my students and I will be watching history take place tomorrow in DC. I can't wait!
Nite! Paula

Just a quick check in girls. I so want to just stay home and watch the makings of history, but alas, I must teach today. Wish we could tune into the news and watch as a class, but I don't have that capability in my classroom. Shoot. I'm sure it will be replayed over and over. I'll have my dh DVR it for me since he's staying home with the lovely bug I shared with him. He's working form home today...and of course watching the inaugeration.
Do you feel the winds of change? I am so hopeful for this man's presidency...realistic enough to know it will all take time...8 years to make such a huge mess (and yes, I know that the previous years contributed)...but idealistic enough to believe that this man, Obama, is a man of global importance, not just national importance.
Off I go...SIS

Good Morning everyone!
Regarding the LV trip this summer - I do agree that a resort is the way to go because it will have something for everyone. I am not bringing my dh, never even considered it, although he does love to gamble. We are both pretty used to traveling w/o each other, unless it's a family vacation. Are the dates firmly in place yet? Can we start making airline reservations, or are we looking for package deals which might include airline tickets? As far as hotel rooms go, I'd be willing to double up & share a room w/ someone...just a thought.
Carol - Thanks so much for the books!! Read the Foot Soldiers book in one sitting - of course, that took me into the wee hours of the morning - but I found it to be very inspirational & motivating. I'm going to the orientation meeting next week. Was up to 3 miles on the treadmill 3 days a week alternating w/ Pilates & Yoga twice a week - but then I got sick last week (just a resp. bug) along w/ 2 of my kids...so I'm thinking I might have to start over cause I'm kind of dragging this week.
D1 - what an exciting and memorable day you have planned!! Although I didn't vote for him, he has my respect & benefit-of-the-doubt for now, plus the historical significance is not lost on me. Despite all of the inherent imperfections of, & the blatant mistakes made by our government, I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Julie - loved what you did with those rooms!! I'm a big fan of darker colors, so the wall colors really suited my taste. I agree w/ Paula, the basement looks like it's off to a good start w/ a lot of potential, i.e. the flooring, the wall paper border, and that beautiful pub-style table.
Since I'm not a big football fan, when exactly is the SuperBowl? The Cowboys have been so disappointing year after year, it's hard to stay "into it", if you know what I mean. I"m sure my dh & ds will be in front of the TV that day, but I'll be working so I guess it doesn't really matter.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Talk at ya soon.

Lucked out and got to watch the happenings on the tube at work ... What a moment !!!

Happy Inauguration Day, Jewels!
We had a 2-hour delay this morning, so didn't have to be at work until 9:30am. I watched the morning shows before I left for work and thought of D1. Ran home to check on Ed and fix a quick lunch at 11:15 and watched the footage here at home while we ate. Then rushed back to work and was just in time to watch the oaths of office. Because of the delay, my students didn't arrive until right at the end of President Obama's speech. I had the DVR recording here at home, and have just finished watching some of it.
Ed did well today on his own (with the neighbor checking in and me being here at lunchtime). I'm not seeing any improvement in his ability to talk, but he's more alert and a tiny bit more "with it" than he has been through the weekend. He unloaded the dishwasher today... unfortunately, the dishes he put up were DIRTY... (God love him!)
Kimberly- I got the card from you and Kath today. How sweet!
I'm starting to get a cold... just a little stuffy head thing...
Carol- glad you got to watch the big day at work. Curious about how many of your co-workers joined you to watch the proceedings...
Time to get back to my lesson plans. Catch you later! Paula

I tell myself there is always someone going through something worse than me. Yesterday proved that.
I received a call at work from a father wanting to pay his son's water bill. He told me he is about ready to "JUMP". I told him things can't be that bad. He proceeded to tell me his 2 sons age 24 and 25 still in college. One has no degree and on heroin and his girlfriend pregnant. He then said 4 years ago at this time was when his wife left him with the Baptist Preacher. Before she left she made sure to wipe out both bank accounts. He told me he has crippling arthritis and is mostly bound to a wheel chair. He said but you know what I make the best of things and there is always someone out there with worse problems.
About the trip I would be willing to share a room with someone to cut down on cost. I am starting to SAVE some cash back. Told the dh I want to go he said if we could afford it. I told him I am going to save for it. I have never flown before I am excited!!!
Take care as you can see not very busy at work I better go find some busy work...
Talk soon

Jules, sorry I didn't comment on the pics yesty...love what you've done in the new family room, and the basement does have lots of room...and potential galore. Can't wait to see the end results.
Therese, bummer about the respitory bug in your house. Hope you can get back to your training this week, but if not, take it easy and rest, there's always next week.
I like the resort idea too. I do think the dates are set, we just need to find a place, and a package would be even better if we can get one.
Carol- I had my class listen to the speech yesterday morning on NPR. I agree, what a moment!
Paula, glad Ed's doing better in some respects. Nice that you got to delay school so students could watch the inaugeration. You must live close to work to be beebopping back and forth from home to work and back. Sorry you're being hunted by the bug...hopefully, it isn't the strain I got...I'm on the tail end, but it's hanging on like a pitbull.
Carla, good news about the dh trying to treat you and the girls with more respect and kindness. Maybe now would be a good time to hit him up for counseling since he'll do anything to keep you at home. Understanding the dynamic and making change isn't like quitting smoking cold turkey, a professional can really help. Can't wait to meet you and all the Jewels that can get to LV.
Gotta run to a staff meeting this morning. Have a great day all. President Obama and his family must be exhausted this morning after all the partying yesterday. Can't wait to hear from D1 to get the on the scene report.
