Did anyone NOT lose their hair?

Options

I'm on day 7 from first AC treatment and I'm going tomorrow for my buzz cut/wig.  I'm realistic enough to know that it's inevitable but I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who didn't lose all of their hair?

For comparison purposes, I'm doing 4 AC, 4 T treatments.  I also have extremely thick hair (which probably doesn't matter).

Thanks :)

    Shocked,

I am sorry that you are having to go through this....I remember it well, did same chemo in 2005/2006 and had long curly ringlets down past my shoulders.  The worst part of chemo was loosing my hair but the best part is it is only TEMPORARY to get you back to health again!

You are being smart by buzzing it off now so that it doesnt fall out in clumps which would be even harder emotionally.

My hair grew back even thicker and even curlier than it was prior to bc.

Hang in there sister, it is unfortunately inevitable that you will loose it as the drugs are so strong and kill actively growing cells which include your hair.

Big hugs you can do this!

Ahh... I remember thinking the same thing. :)
I had the same chemo and mine started coming out on day 13. I cut it and buzzed it that day and went to my 2nd chemo the next day in a wig. I guess there's always the one in a billion chance, but it's not likely. I didn't lose my lashes and brows until my 2nd or 3rd taxol though so that helped a little bit. Of course, right after the 4th and last taxol, what little I had dropped off. It all comes back pretty quickly and surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. I think the worst part about losing my hair was looking in the mirror and LOOKING sick. It was a reminder I didn't want to have. Hang in there :)

I also had 4 AC treatments and started out with very thick hair. I got it cut from below-the-shoulder to chin-length a couple of days after my first tx.  On day 12 it started coming out, slowly at first and then all over the place.  It is possible that I wouldn't have lost it all but I didn't wait to find out -- I had it shaved on Day 16, 2 days after my second tx.  I think I may have had more stubble on my head than most because I have more hair follicles than average -- it got itchy and I actually shaved it myself one day (carefully).

I can't deny it, I hated being bald more than anything, but it isn't forever. My hair has come back incredibly thick and curly, and the same color as before. The good news for me was that my eyebrows and eyelashes never fell out completely. They thinned a lot but I think my excess of hair follicles was helpful in this department.

Good luck and more hugs coming your way!

I did ACT as well, and my hair started to fall out on day 14. I was having a bath and went to put my hair up in a bun. The next day I had my friend, who is a hairdresser come over to shave my head.'

Now its grown back enough to hold my 18 inch extensions! Smile

I was told my hair was going to fall out around the same time. Actually, it did not fall out until my 3rd/4th treatment. The same thing happened when I had cancer when I was 16. I was told it would fall out right away. It took months. I wonder why?

I also had 4 AC & 4T.....my hair started falling out about day 14 after my first AC.  Comes out in globs.  My dh shaved my head and then his....I remember noticing nubs for about a month and then they fell out and I was bald as a babys bottom.  When I started the Taxol my hair began to grow about 6 weeks after the first infusion.  That was about the beggining of Aug 08.  My hair is about 2 inch long now.  It was med brown and very straight.  Now it is dark grey and white on the top and black in the back.  The top is straight and the back is curly.  It is very interesting.....lol    I also lost my eyebrows, lashes and nasal hair.  But they fortunelty return quickly.  Just try to get through it all the best you can.  I know it may feel as tho this nightmare will never end but soon it will be a memory.  Hang in there

    Hey guys,

Well today was a non-event.  I special-ordered a wig and so will wait until it comes in this week to do the GI Jane, lol.

Actually, I'm hoping my underarm hair will fall out since I can't get at the right one!

I love the idea of getting extensions once it grows back enough!  I never even thought of that. Between that and my silicone boobies, I'll be hot! (hee)

    Be well y'all!

AC took away the head and pubic hair. Taxol took the rest.

I haven't heard of anyone not losing it on these chemo drugs. Other ones, yes, but not ACT.

Also not Taxotere & Cytoxan (TC).  My onco assured me that I would lose all my hair on TC.  I thought she meant all the hair on my head, but she was speaking much more globally ... and she was right.

i did the same tx and my hair started falling out in clumps just when they predicted it would  like 5 days after my second ac treatment-  i had it shaved off as soon as it started   the good part was that i had NO hair anywhere under my arms, legs, crotch   it was weird  i would get in the shower and have nothing to do but let the water fall on me-  no need to shave anything and no hair to wash!   when it started to grow back in i used gel to put it back -  it was really long and thick before and when it grew in it was much curlier than before -  i just let it grow and now 2 yrs later its long again and blonde again!  i did have a friend who went the hair extension route  she had them put in all over her head when it was long enough (which was only a few inches)  it was very costly though but worth it to her    i didnt lose my eyebrows but they did thin alot and i used brow makeup from sephora on them   the eyelashes too when i was on taxol but not completely -sometimes i put on fake ones from the drug store when i was going out somewhere special   the first thing to grow back and really fast was the eyebrows   unfortunately we all wish that we would be the miracle one whose hair dosent fall out but i have never met anyone who had this treatment and it didnt

    BIG HUGS

My hair also fell out everywhere. I had my husband shave it at week 3. Very emotional thing for me as my hair was also very long with ringlets. Finished up chemo in August 08 and my hair is now about 3 inches long. Came back with two long streaks of gray at my temples that go all the way back. My 4 year old says it looks like a funny skunk. Its much curlier and darker than before but have just gotten the ok to dye it so tomorrow back to dark blond. I would have been fine if the hair on my legs would have never grown back.

Julia, I thought the coolest thing when my eyebrows came back in was that they came in pre-shaped. Somehow, I imagined that they would be all shaggy and I'd have to reshape them.

I figure it was my chance for the best exfoliation and bikini wax that I will ever have. Now it's back to shaving, sigh.

When on ACT i lost all my hair but now on TC and it's thined out alot but not all gone. funny thing is that when it started to itch we shaved it knowing it would fall out in the next few days then it didnt lol I am very butch. short stubby and very seldom wear the wig. why bother.

it does grow back in very nicely when it does come back curly and lush usually.
