First of 8 Treatments...check!
I had my first cycle yesterday. Actually, I had my port put in, my first treatment and my drains pulled yesterday! I'm came home feeling like I had been beat up and hit over the head with a sledgehammer! LOL. I swear my body just went into protective mode and made me pass out before anyone could add or remove anything else...hee hee.
I'm feeling marginal this morning. Not terrible, not great. I still think I'm feeling some of the effects of all the procedures yesterday.
When did the side effects start for everyone after their first treatment? I'm hoping all the stuff they gave me for nausea is really going to work. It's the fatigue that's the bitch, I guess.
1 down, 7 to go. I'm going to have to put notches somewhere!

shockedat39,
siitting here after my first treatment yesterday too. Can't imagine having a port in and drains out too. (But doesn't it feel great to have the drains out). I did TC with a total of 4 planned (every 3 weeks), so different from what you're getting. Found to my surprise this morning that coffee made my stomach feel better then anything else I've tried. I also looked in the mirror and thought where did those dark circles under your eyes come from! Have you tried the January chemo thread? Some very good information about what to expect on different days--just have to realize everyone is different some or none may happen to you. My doc warned me to keep up on the antinausea meds this first day post treatmetn even if you feel good--or it may hit you worse the 2nd and you'll be playing catch up. I plan on taking that advice and trying to get on the treadmill even if for a few minutes. Let me know how you're doing later, its nice to find someone experiencing this first day too.

Congrats! The "1 down, 7 to go" is the way I got through. I don't know what chemo you had, but I had 4 A/C then 4 taxol. The A/C kicked my butt for a couple days (was really in a coma for about 2 days after tx) and all I ate were mashed potatoes w/ cheese and salt and Edy's ice cream. After those couple days, life was pretty "normal." I was lucky - the phenergan and whatever else I took for nausea worked wonders and I never had one minute of nausea. The steroids will make you want to eat, so when you're feeling good, try to eat as well as you can. When you feel like crap, eat what you want!
Hair started leaving at day 13 so I "G.I. Jane'd" myself. If you feel nausea, tell your onc.!!! There are a ton of drugs and combinations to try so there's no reason to let yourself suffer.
When I started feeling sores in my mouth, I'd swish with baking soda and Biotene mouthwash. Disgusting, yes, but I believe it worked. Watch out for hot foods and liquids b/c you don't want to burn your mouth during chemo.
As for having all of that stuff done on the same day... yikes! Getting those drains out was horrid! I will never forget that feeling of the tubes... ::shudder:: LOL Hang in there, listen to your body and you will be through this and have it behind you before you know it.
xoxo Erica

I'm on day three. Still feeling a bit loopy but not one lick of nausea..hooray! Went back for the shot this morning and got rave reviews about "looking so good" so I'll take it

First of all, sorry to welcome you to this particular club, but welcome nonetheless.
Erica gave you great advice, the only thing I would add - when in doubt, call your onc with symptoms! As Erica said, there are meds to help with just about everything (including the side effects from the meds that are helping the other stuff!) More than once I went back after two weeks and said, "xyz was happening" and my onc would say, "why didn't you call me?" and then give me a RX to solve the problem. (For example, I had a terrible time with thrush, and the first time I just lived with it because I didn't know what it was, and thought it was just the weird taste in your mouth yucky side effect. I had a prescription for it the next time and it worked llike a charm!)
Hang in there!

I was really relieved after a/c #1 that I got thru it ok, had mashed potatos for lunch the next day when I went in to get my - ugh, menopause brain - shot for WBC's. I kept that good thought with me through the a/c's as they got harder and harder but I kept thinking about how well I got through the 1st and it helped me get through the rest. For me Taxol was a huge relief.
I had lots of nausea but no vomiting - basically ended out not eating anything for about 3-5 days after my treatments. But I think the meds are even better now - a friend just finished and had no problems at all with nausea. That's just 2-1/2 - 3 years later.
Anyway, you'll be fine, even if it's hard you WILL get through it. And your hair will grow back and you'll have energy again and all that stuff. Keep that in mind. It's true for everyone I've known who's gone through it.
