Positive Stories?
I thought I was doing OK emotionally until last night, when I began realizing that my body created cancer in BOTH breasts suddenly, I may be BRCA1 or 2 positive, may need to consider a hysterectomy, etc...Then, last night, I began reading threads about women who, even though they have negative nodes, develop mets a few years down the line. I'm beginning to feel like my body is not something I can trust anymore to function in a healthy way with my help and medical intervention.
I could really benefit from any positive stories out there - especially those of women with premenopausal, aggressive cancers, who are healthy years down the line or who have been "cured". I didn't sleep much last night, and I need to reclaim that positive attitude somehow.
Thanks to EVERYONE!

elizzim,
I'm so sorry you are having a rough time. I've been there. The no sleep thing..been there too. It's been 16 months since I was diagnosed and I am just starting to sleep through out the night with out "wake ups"
First, you don't know yet if you are BRCA+. There are woman who are not and do get bilaterl breast cancers. Try not to stress out about something that is unknown, I know easier said thean done.
When it comes to the agressive cancer thing...most, not all, woman had been diagnosed with an agressive cancer. I'm assuming you mean the grade 3 thing. You can see my stats below and I am very premenopausal.
I remember when I finished my rads and say my oncologist. I freaked on him! I mean crying, saying I don't know how to go ahead, what is going to happen to me?
He told that as of today, I have gotten the BEST medical treatment available. He went over AGAIN,my pathology report. He also said that I would be taking the Tamoxifen for 5 years and then maybe something else after that to keep this cancer away. I'm also on Zometa which also reduces the risk of "it" coming back. I also talked with a natural path and have made lifestyle changes.
I feel this day, I'm doin all I can do.
There are a lot of woman on here that can share their stories and have been out 3,5,7,10 years. But remember, most woman on here are newly diagnosed, actively on treatment or here to help the "new people" Thank god for them
The other woman you don't see don't come around much because they are living their lives.Working, family ect.
I know everything is so overwhelming. Oh boy do I know. But once the treatment plan kicks in the clouds start to lift. It really does.

You helped to put so much in perspective for me. I'm finding that so much of this fight is about finding a constructive perspective again and again and again, every time that fear creeps up and makes us lose any perspective but dread. You're right - when you know you've done everything in your power to decrease risk of recurrence, you then have to find some way to live without cancer defining your life and being. I'm only at the beginning of this journey, and that's already become clear.
I'm glad to know that the reason more people are not here telling their positive stories, is because they are off living their LIVES. You are right, that does make sense. Thanks for helping me se that.
Of course, I'd still welcome the positive experiences of others. Anyone?
