Exceptional 1-2 day 50th b-day trip advice needed in OC, CA
We have the tradition of getting away to new places on our birthdays so we can better remember the years as they roll by.
I had planned to spent my 50th in the South Pacific but my cancer diagnosis put that on hold. Because I just had surgery, I can't be as active as usual and don't want to fly - I could do some light hiking though. I've lived in OC for 25 years and have done all the usual things ... but I'm sure there must be something I haven't done or seen. Something in or close to nature would be my first choice. All input is greatly appreciated. And a great outing would be a form of alternative therapy

Hello,
Since my journey with cancer and treatment (of which I finished in July of last year) I started attending relaxation and healing touch classes. Through those classes I have come across weekend seminars one of which is located at a lakeside bed and breakfast (gorgeous location) with everything included. I am in Canada and I would call them a homeopathic spa. The relaxation and healing touch has brought many hours of peace and comfort and will be something I continue daily. It is one of the best gifts I have ever given myself. My 50th is coming up in march and I too would like to do something special. Have a happy birthday

I'm not sure how close to home you want to stay. You could do the train up the coast and then out to Glacier National Park. Totally beautiful. Or even up into the Canadian Rockies.
If you want to stay in So Cal, my first thought was hot air ballooning (does that count as flying?) and/or wine country in Temecula. Or maybe there is something out on Catalina that gets you up into the hills?
We love Cambria on the central CA coast. It is very low key, but the ocean is beautiful, and we have developed a family tradition of visiting the elephant seals.
Sunset Magazine surely has some "off the beaten path" ideas. . . try their website.

Happy Birthday Ailenroc! My 50th is this year too, oh fun!
I live in OC also, if I were you I would go down to Montage for a lovely spa weekend, PLUS they have all of the gorgeous beaches to walk! or if you head down Laguna Canyon Road to the right past Sawdust Festival I have hiked up there a bunch too. Whatever you decide to do I am sure it will be awesome!
Big Hugs!

I turn 50 next month. I envy your vacation budget! I didn't have a vacation budget even before bc, let alone now. But if I did, I think I'd want to visit the Chopra Healing Center.
