cost of Herceptin

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knows how much the hospitals charge for a Herceptin treatment.

I have insurance that pays part of it.

I was just looking at my bill yesterday, although I receive my herception in my doctor's office. It is a $5000 charge.

My total herceptin cost is around $4500. My insurance pays for all of it.

Is that per treatment?

My HER2 is equivocal (1.8 on FISH), and my oncologist would like me to receive herceptin anyway. He has ordered another FISH test on a tumor specimen (rather than the biopsy) in hopes of getting it bumped up to 2 so that insurance will pay for herceptin. If not, I'd have to pay for it myself, and I don't think I can afford it.

Must be per treatment .. because didn't the cost run something like $50,000 down in Australia since H was not a covered treatment???

I had herceptin from 3/07 - 2/08. The total cost was over $142,000 for the year. Thank goodness I had reached my out of pocket limit early in 2007 so that the cost of the herceptin (and the second mastectomy on my other breast) were completely covered during 2007. I only had 3 copays in 2008.

I think a years worth is around 40-45000 in Canada.

Yes Rocktobermom...Used to cost $50,000 upwards in Australia ( I think the dosage depends on your weight?)

Ppl were selling their houses etc to get the money. Now it is Government subsidised and I believe its virtually free.

About $3000 per treatment at my hospital. Insurance covers it except for copay/deductible.
